Taking apart the 2000 cannondale F800 I found on marketplace. I decided to make a restomod 26'' gravel bike with this Vintage Cannondale mtb. Thanks for watching :)
Is the Cannondale F800 with Headshok a good bike for a RestoMod project?

I found a Vintage Cannondale F800 bike on marketplace. What should I do with it? 1- Restore it to its original state? 2- Do a Neo-Retro build with modern components. Check the gear I use for my videos here: bit.ly/shopandreasmygear web:www.vonwestfalen.com ig: @andreas_ihm Thanks for watching!

My hands get numb at 30 min...ibwas told to stand to relieve butt and hand pressure...but how to stand??
@@cliffcox7643 standing on a regular roller is pretty hard. Maybe learning how to ride without hands would be the solution. Otherwise it’s time for a 5 minutes break. 30 minutes on rollers is quite a lot.

Quick question: ate you able to sttach and use as intended the chuck with the presta valve vore removed?
@@sainttorre5492 good question: the short answer is no. if you remove the core, you must hold the chuck against the valve's stem firmly. it does work well. I installed 6 tubeless tires in a parking lot like that without any issues.

Personally, A if you have the flexibility which you probably wont so choose C, relaxed and aero
can you tell more about: where did you stay night before event? and how afrter finish average guys go back to hotell? or you must book two nights in fifferent hotells? or you have car who carries your bike back etc.? Thinking what need to plan if im not from France.
@@KarlisVitols-db2sh I am not from France either. I rented a airbnb in Roubaix and rode my bike to and back from the event. It’s a good plan if it is nice weather, but consider finding a place near just in case it’s raining. Those extra kilometers can hurt 😅. Thanks for watching!
I'd use their components exclusively except for the cost. So expensive.
I can soooo relate! I was 15 years old when I saw the brand new F800sl in the shop - in red with the cool XS small frame. In my case, I was super lucky because my dad owned the shop. I had to "buy" it with my own money, but let's just say I got a very special offer 😅. Anyway, that bicycle has been in continuous use for more than 25 years. I did moutainbiking in my teens, and later refitted it a bit and have used it for long-distance tours ever since. Just rode it from Munich to Venice and the over to Tolmin in Slovenia. The Fatty D ist excellent. Still in perfect working order well into its third decade, with virtually no maintenance required. And I love the handling: Super agile in traffic or difficult terrain, but light and comfortable enough for long distances. I can go down a mountain at 50km/h on that bike and still take my hands off the handlebars because that thing never wobbles.
@@egyptomaniac6453 thanks for sharing. Glad you are still enjoying to ride it!
Awesome build! Exquisite attention to detail. Well done!
Are they hard to ride
You can use Campag wheels with Campag cassett on both Shimano and Sram bikes. Just so you guys know. There even was pro teams that only used Campags Super Records chains for their Shimano and Sram bikes!
Wide bars make your body a scoop for air.
i recommend trying it on a sandy or smooth surface road with using a worn out tire or minimal traction tire. also do it fast and hard pumped tirefor less friction. and try pulling from your dominant foot.
touch up paint code: "RAL 8017" does wonder on that team blue, which is not exactly the "team blue volvo"
Such a nice build! Well done.
@@loothi thanks! It’s a really fun bike to ride around! Thanks for watching
Dura cranks are common in the keirin world, but I like Sugino 75. The Clarialance on the tires is tight and cool. The sticker on the vehicle registration is also great. I ride a SAMSON, a 1994 Meccanico Giro, and a 1974 Everest that no longer exists.
Thank you for this!! Can you please let me know more about the packing foam? How thick is it? Is there a specific type or brand you use? Thanks again!
@@berniekeene868 hey, thanks for watching, I just went to a bike shop and ask for the foam they get when unpacking new bikes.
@@AndreasIhm GOOD IDEA! Thank you.
Super entertaining video - Thanks! I love riding the cobbles as well, so I’m eager to ride this event as well one day. Which tires did you use for the event?
@@timpie007 i used the challenge strada biance in 700x40. Thanks for watching!
Where to start on the handlebars? I just did mine just like you did, the reverse way. However I started more in the middle, like to have some grip there aswell, does this cost aero?
Hey, thabks for watching! You start where you want! Sometimes I cover the whole aero area when someone asks for it. In terms of aero gains or loss, i dont know. That is something one could try in a tunnel someday but I am sure comfort is faster than having a aero handlebar exposed 😋
An object of sublime beauty
Couple comments. N3W is the same spline pattern as their standard freehub, but it is shorter and allows a 10t cassette. If we're talking about road wheels, you can have either freehub. Or you can use a Shimano cassette and chain, quite frankly. True for 11s and 12s. Not true for SRAM compatibility. Aside from that, yes. The user base was always much smaller, even in the 90s or 2000s. The cassettes and chains are more expensive than Shimano. If we ignore that, they use different shift cable heads, so you can't substitute shift cables. Few mechanics these days are familiar with it. You can read the instructions and the principles behind the derailleurs are identical, but the lack of day to day experience means something. And it's at a price premium, and these days it definitely doesn't perform better than equivalent Shimano or SRAM. As such, it's objectively not possible for me to recommend that a newer rider switch to Campy.
Beau bike!

Finally someone who knows how to wrap! Top down is smart; no bullshit taper cut at the top then electrical tape to cover the mess. Yes, roll tape towards the rider on top because we tend to roll or hands in this direction when gripping the top. And no, unless we are Girmay the idea that this wrap direction will tend to unravel the bottom when we sprint is laughable; we don’t sprint that much and no we are not a TdF sprinter to begin with. This guy does it right.

What about TruTrainer rollers?
@@barryrobbins7694 haven’t had a chance to test them. Thanks for watching!
@@AndreasIhm A combination of TruTrainer and E-Motion would be the ultimate rollers. It might be possible to make this combination starting with a TruTrainer. Others have made self-made E-Motion type rollers using standard fixed rollers.
@@barryrobbins7694 i was thinking about that. If I can get my hands on those, I’ll definitely try
For me the most important thing to retain a staight line on the rollers is to mark a point 1-2 meters in front of my front wheel (and in the center cross line of the cylinders) focusing my eyes on it. Then the bike automatically returns in this position regardless of the cadence of the pedals
Thank you for this content. I cut my steer tube tonight, perfect. After I finished with the wet and dry sanding it was so immaculate, it's a shame it's hidden lol

@@jonathanhowson6420 tubeless is not an option for track and only an acceptable option for cyclocross:

Nice Video, please inform about roller noise. Roller noise is irritating?
@@dattatrayvedpathak5067 it depends. The kreitler vibrates a little bit. The insideride is noisy but does not vibrate at all. The tacx rollers vibrate a lot and vibration is the most annoying thing for neighbours. If you have a home, the kreitler classic or the insideride rollers are perfect.

Very cool find. That is a very decent bike. Some food for thought, I've got a 95 F1000 and IMO the original geometry on these is terrible. I went with a much shorter riser stem and wide riser bars and it's much more controllable and just plain better to ride .
@@haqitman hey! Thanks for watching. I agree, the 140mm stock stem made the bike terrible to handle. But that’s how things were back then.
@@AndreasIhm mine had a 150 which I swapped out for a 105 with 30 deg rise. Better, but shorter would be even better 😀

That’s for road, not track
I’ve had a set of no-name aluminum rollers, Kreitler rollers, and now InsideRide eMotion rollers with the smart trainer function. They’re the best, although I still have a Kickr for short, spikey intervals.
