Magnatone M6 vibrato slowdown
มุมมอง 9614 วันที่ผ่านมา
This little suitcase amp is so cool! Only one problem, the vibrato is way too fast and induces motion sickness. Let's see if we can slow it down and make this little gem usable in the studio. Also, is that a buzz I hear? Not after we get through with it!

Great video as always. Loved the "it didn't help" screen text. :) Would have liked to hear the buzz/vibrato before and after.
IT. IS. ON!
Righteous! Sounds and looks amazing and no rain! :)
Finally I found a how-to to do the dreaded Fender amp corners. Your method amazes me; so different from the other tutorials. How did you learn this?
First, nice job straightening the faceplate; you went the whole 9 yards on that! However, ArmorAll contains silicones and should never be used on Tolex or other amp coverings as it can cause the plasticizers in the Tolex to leach out. Use a paste wax such as Johnson's butchers wax. Murphy's Oil Soap diluted with water is excellent for cleaning the Tolex. If the grill cloth is full of cigarette tar and nicotine, spray it lightly with a mixture of oxiclean crystals in warm water with a dab of dish soap added, then quickly rinse the entire baffle with water and put it in the sun to dry quickly (the particle board can't handle much water). I've tried lots of things to remove cigarette tar but a freshly-made (not pre-mixed) Oxyclean solution works better than any of them. It's non-toxic and gentle ---- I've even used it to clean the Cedar siding on my house and it won't kill the grass or shrubbery.
Whenever I've worked on a Champ I always convert the chassis-return grounded filament wiring to a proper twisted pair with balancing resistors; it really pays off in terms of lowering audible buzz and hum. The 8" speaker, and the puny output transformer, are much happier when they aren't forced to try and reproduce a 60 Hz sinewave (this also increases the amp's headroom a little as well). The 1/2 watt heater-balancing resistors (carbon film is preferable) also function as fuses and will blow out to protect the power transformer in case of a shorted 6V6 (which can be quite likely considering how hard the output tube is pushed in these amps). For the ultimate in noise reduction, instead of grounding the balancing resistors you can tie them to the cathode of the output tube and bias them up with the 20- something volts of DC that is otherwise dropped across the cathode resistor. Single ended amplifiers do not have the common-mode hum-canceling ability of a push-pull amp and so they benefit disproportionately from the application of classic noise reduction techniques that were usually found in more expensive amplifiers.
Really cool technique to straighten the faceplate!
Yeah, he did a very nice job on that.
Yay!!! New video!!!
The title says you're gonna build a Princeton. But you just said the video that you're going to build a champ.Make up your fucking mind
Jeeze, happiest guy in the world over here lol!!
Nice work Damon!
I think the speaker, from what I've seen, should be front-mounted (gaskets are facing the back of the cabinet). I may be wrong, but it could damage its basket and/or cause it to sound "fuzzy". Any comments?
On original Fender tweed amps all of the pattern is aligned 11 pm to 4 pm. So your top piece is mis-aligned. Other than that, great work!
Good stuff
#MouseUrineEew! I loved this video. Super fascinating stuff!

I have 2 of these amps and they are loud!
Right on Damon
I love the video! I vote for filming in landscape mode for the next ones. It's fascinating to watch you work. Thanks for sharing and teaching me many new words. :)
First! You guys sound great!
Yay!!!
Also, I LOVE this song!
Love that song, nice to hear Mike wind up.
This song deserves a much better recording.
this is delicate, folks! thanks FY5!
