Pagenaud was unbeatable in 2016. I’ll never forget it. I was already a fan when he raced in ALMS, but that monster season made me a fan for life.

No money, mortgaged his house to make the race, no sponsorship, notice no sponsorship stickers on his car. His pit crew were supposedly volunteers, he went into $200,000 of debt to make this race and won a purse of $205,000 if I remember correctly. He was running with an engine that had several races on it already and could only put a fresh set of tires and new wax on the car the night before the race when the other teams were swapping engines,clutches etc. truly a dream come true for Jim!!

Got to add that he won the pole in 2016 over Josef Newgarden.

I had to come here and watch this after the announcement of him running the Bud car next year. The last time he raced the Bud car, I was in 9th grade. Now I’m 31. Growing up, I had a lot of Dale Jr merch. My parents painted my room red, black, and white to match Juniors scheme. I used to ask my dad to remove the plate at the bottom of his 1:64 Bud cars so I could use them in “my races.” I always took care of them. Nowadays, they sit displayed. Can’t wait to see him in the 8 car next year!
