Tehillim Talks - Psalm 58
Psalm 58 is a unique psalm which I call Song of the Sociopath. It describes the intractability of certain souls who resist the righteous path and are bent on persecuting the innocent. Such a person was King Saul's counselor, Abner, who, traditions teaches, was the inspiration for this psalm. (Read 1Samuel 26.) On a different note, this psalm is one of the most difficult to translate. Hence, I present here three translations: The English Standard Version, the Robert Alter translation, and the Artscroll Publishers translation. We should not be surprised that grappling this psalm is as difficult as understanding the twisted mind of the sociopath.

This is the sixth psalm (in a series of nine) where David prays for deliverance. But in this psalm, David does something completely different. Can you discover what it is? We also learn something fascinating about the Hebrew word for "dawn". We will learn about these and many other valuable insights in this short but powerful psalm. Everyone knows the story of Noah and the Ark. But there are some details of the story that you may have missed, like the release of the raven, and then the dove, and then the dove again, and then the dove a third time. What is this all about? And what is God trying to teach us through this account of the birds? And what connection does Noah’s ark have with the Tabernacle? Join us for a lively d...

Thank you both for not keeping all these beautiful nuggets to yourself!!!
What a special teaching. Thanks Grant!
Wonderful insights!
oh wow! thank you so much! this is very insightful
Amen
There were way too many commercials in this very short talk, which is very sad. About six in 20 minutes. Shabbat Shalom
@@Raminakai That IS sad! Thank you for letting me know. I went back and fixed that problem. (Somehow a box got checked that should not have.) And please let me know if you come across this issue again. Thank you!!
Decisions, choose, pray, praise🙌🏻 💕
Reality!
The world knows that, so we should too. “Flight 293 and all 101 souls on board disappeared.” How often have we heard the number of people on an aircraft referred to as the number of souls, when they are talking about people, and not disembodied spirits or something. Genesis 2:7 KJV And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Sounds pretty clear and straightforward; however many translations use “living being” instead of “living soul”, which might add to people’s confusion. Great little nugget teaching, as always. Shabbat shalom, Grant.
Thank you for this wonderful, Spirit-filled teaching. Inspiring!
Incredible insight
This is very enlightening.
Thank You I like your take on the name Elohim = El =power like as "el" in electric Shalom
Thank you Grant. A blessing as always! God bless. From SA
Simply profound revelation! Thank you Grant
🙏
Shalom.thank you
Letting go of addictions one by one. The tempter tells me it's natural and i roar and yell that to the Lord i belong.
Thank you both!!! Such meaningful insights. Once again showing us how every Word is still applicable to our everyday life.
Thank you Grant!! Always a blessing! Also from South Africa...
There was something you said that was bothersome for me it starts at 19:57….. GOD himself correspond to the soul…. There is one of you one of me and one of Him….. This explanation leans into a view of modality ? What I believe is GOD is three persons in Unity each person in the GOD head is spirit with will, feelings,…. But the WORD is the one who took on a body … maybe you can clarify a bit more…
I'm not sure what "modality" is, but I make no claims whatsoever to understand God's make-up. I know traditional Catholic/Christian theology claims to understand God's make-up, but do not. I just stand in awe of Him. I know this response to your concern is kind of vague, but as an official old man, I have come to realize that the more we try to explain God, the more we diminish His glory in our minds.
Praise GOD for this clear teaching ….. for almost two years ….I have been praying and searching to understand what GOD wants me to understand about body soul and spirit so that I can correctly apply the teachings in the Bible
Praise God! I am thrilled to have played a small part in God's response to your prayer. Thank you for your comment.
From Italy thank you Grant for being a grant from the Lord for us to understand who we really are
You are so very welcome! And I just have to say how much I love your beautiful country. Our granddaughter was born in Rome and we got to spend two glorious weeks there and on the Amalfi coast. I would love to return (if someone else does the driving!)
Blessings!!
Would you tell us what is the difference?
Amen sir
I love your bread crumbs. This one was especially moving and powerful.
Thank you so much!
True this happens in our daily life
Such a blessing. We need to be reminded of this every day, as we endure through the challenges intended to increase and prove our faith.
Can you inform me what bible translation you are reading from please.
This is a recurring question. I start with the ESV as a "foundation", but translate directly from the Hebrew as I work through a passage.
Oh beautiful!
What a blessing! Thank you Grant. God bless. From South Africa❤
My pleasure, Anne-Marie. And we are planning on coming your way next March!
Cover what:)))??? The Bible does try to make a special point of this notion...
From Italy i thank you for all these eye opeing teachings
You are so very welcome, Susan.
Thank you for such clear insights
Amazing teaching,thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Shalom. Thank you for your words
Thank you both what a beautiful teaching . I love the rabbit trails. It helps me so much as well as what your bread crumbs are. I may email you lol thank you again . Shalom
You are so welcome, Lori. Great to hear from you!
Hi. I went looking for the measurements of the window on the ark. I didnt find measurements given in the text of Genesis. Where were you getting 1 cubit by 1 cubit? Thanks
The passage is a bit "cryptic", but is in Genesis 6:16.
I have caught myself regarding certain portions of Scripture to be worthy of skipping until I remembered “ … every word that proceeds from God”. Once making that adjustment I saw where family trees are only important to those desiring truth as to their identity.
Well put! So many amazing insights are to be found in the "boring parts" of the Bible. :)
Hi Grant, thank you for a great teaching. Just in connection with the raven. In Gen7 vers 3 it says... 7 pairs of birds to keep them alive on earth. So there were 6 more ravens.... we need to be aware of our thoughts and keep on renewing our minds... Just a thought . Thanks
Yes, on the surface the text would seem to indicate that seven pairs of even the unclean birds were brought on the ark. However, that is not the understanding of the rabbinic Torah commentators. As Rashi states, "This instruction was limited to the pure species. We can infer the unstated from the stated. [Even though this verse does not specify that the seven pairs of each kind of bird refers to just the pure species, this point which is made obvious with the animals applies to the birds as well.]"
Thank you Grant...your variaty of teachings is such a wonderful blessing to me and my friends to understand the Word more fully and walk accordingly in it❤
Thank you for your kind remarks. You have made my day!
Powerful 💪
Thank you for this wisdom ❤
You are so welcome
I enjoyed every minute❤ Thank you❗
So glad you enjoyed it.
I live in lsreal 2018 i was 2
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you!
You bet!
What version of the Bible are you using?
I begin with the ESV (or the NASB) and then adjust to reflect the Hebrew more literally and accurately.
Abraham said before he went up, he and his son would return.
