Hate it when consent isn't considered in storylines. Never a fun thing to read. I still have not picked up Laini Taylor and I'm not sure I will. If I do, I think you've convinced me her debut might be where to start.

I have Witches Guide on my shelf, was hoping to get to it this month as I am doing a romance/smut month but not sure i can quite squeeze it in. Fascinating to hear your thoughts on these ones, I completely agree with the comment about smut potentially bringing a book down, I had a similar issue with a recent read just because of the sheer volume that was in it

I feel that reading burnout atm, loved hearing what you thought, I think Nightbirds is definitely going to be a miss for me, sounds like it's frustrating, can't wait to watch the other weeks 🤗

I picked up Guide to Dating a Demon for my r/fantasy bingo last year and if I wasn't reading it for that I would have DNFed. The way characters were treating the main female lead was so frustrating and it just kept getting worse and worse, and there was no push back on it until the end. The magic felt very underexlained as well, which in a cozy fantasy isn't the end of the world I guess, but it just added to my dislike of it. I read Stardust a long time ago and I remember enjoying it, but I went with expectations of maybe not seeing all of the pieces of the puzzle as you said so it kinda met my expectations, it surprised me how much a liked the characters so I gave it a higher rating because of it, if I remember correctly. 🙈 These were interesting picks, excited to see which ones you are gonna read next week. I hope you have better luck funding a favorite. ❤

I feel like a lot of new translationa of books are coming out as well. Like, translations of non-recent but popular books. Like, if your name isn't Stephen King, it ueed to take AGES to get translated. Recentl, a 10 year old book was finally translated into german

This seems like a really fun challenge! Endings that are missing a "wow" factor and POV switches that end up confusing always throw me off, too...these sound like interesting premises other than that, though!
