Thank you, I've been saying Bird is more athletic than he gets credit for forever. At basically 6'10 he started out as a 4 and 4 was probably his true position. He was able to play 3 BECAUSE of his athleticism for his size not because it hindered him. Outside of the athletic freaks like LeBron not many 6'10 guys move around like him. He had a recorded NBA average vert at 28/29 inches, had incredibly quick hands, and you basically never see him get run down on the fast break clips

I was at the Kentucky-Oakland game in the ncaa tournament and I was very disappointed in Reed Sheppard. After watching this game though, I believe that he has the skills and athleticism to be a top nba player at some point.

To your point about Thinking Basketball’s nitpickiness about passing, I do agree that sometimes he might see something he likes that a guy on the court might have a different split second opinion about (especially since watching clips on tv doesn’t give us the full picture of what the passer sees). But I’ve come to watch these profile videos from the perspective of “what the perfect play would be” which helps me parse out small differences between the all timers. Nash is an all time passer but his size is a legit impediment in specific situations, especially since guys like Magic and Jokic with their size wouldn’t have an issue with. I think here he will point out when Nash may have missed a potential layup pass because he’s seen him make those reads 50 other times, same with the other all time playmakers. It’s what separates guys like Luka who takes all those chances versus great low error, but conservative passers like Tyus Jones or Monte Morris - they sacrifice the best passes in order to reduce errors while the best playmakers give up a turnover or two in order to make the pass 9 out 10 times.
