I am a little unclear on why three points of contact is necessary? Is one the power to the board? And two buttons go together for the 3 points. But would this not work with just the one button rather than two? The switches have 4 connections don't they? Was the 2nd switch necessary for the 3rd connection? I need to map 4 buttons for incline, up down, and speed up and down. I saw a video on how to crimp cables, so I got that now.
The membrane when pressed upon sends back connectivity readings for each pin. So when a combination of pins come in contact the control board recognizes the request to trigger a function (ie start,stop, etc.). This is how the treadmill shown in the repair, worked. Your model may be different. As far as the number of switches, 2 switches where used to mimic the intended signaling. You can surely try looking into other types of switches that may mimic your design with a single switch.
