Collodion Tips #1: Albumen solution for subbing a plate
มุมมอง 2.2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
For several reasons collodion film can peeling from the glass support: poor cleaning and polishing, putting the plate into silver bath before the collodion has set properly. Furthermore, subbing the plate is a “must to do” if you are doing a prolonged development like in wet plate negative or dry plate collodion. Here a short video that will helps you on preparing the albumen solution and subbi...

In this video I am using a wet plate collodion negative to print out an amazing Cyanotype of "evolution's tree". This is a little part of a bigger project that I am doing inspired by nature here in Sicily! The print is the first of a series of 99 and I will be more than pleased to send you a copy. In this video I am going around by van, equipped with darkroom and chemical needed for shooting a unique and genuine ambrotype. I live in Sicily (Italy) and often I get inspired by the beauty of my land. My name is Gianni Cusumano and I do love photography. In this digital age of fast camera and instant photography I jumped back into the eighteen century learning one of the most beautiful photo...
Is the “vapor” just steam from boiling water ??
How long will it take to get dried at room temp? Can I le it dry in my fridge? :)
Hello! What’s the functionality of ammonia on subbing plates? I’m thinking to sub plates for cyanotype on glass. Thanks!
Ammonia is used to keep "fresh" the albumen solution for days but my suggestion is to use fresh made albumen solution without ammonia.
Hello. I am a South Korean subscriber. I am new to cyanotype. Can you tell me the recipe?
The chemicals used are very inexpensive, it would most likely cost more to make them yourself. Here is a link where you can buy cyanotype chemicals: www.jerrysartarama.com/jacquard-cyanotype-products?gclid=EAIaIQobChMImvne7Iqq6wIVB4bICh2qoQobEAQYASABEgL_P_D_BwE
I am enjoying this video a lot. I am uploading videos on my TH-cam channel dedicated to film photography as well!
Lovely photo! I am taking photos of trees as well! You can check it on my TH-cam channel!
The right image/subject for a cyanotipe! Superb!
@Gianni Cusumano after the albumen coating is dry can we sensitize the plate with silver nitrate as we do with paper and then use it as a camera dry plate? Thank you in advance for your answer. Luis.
Luís Conde in this case after the albumen costing is dry I coat the plate with collodion and than sensitize it on silver solution while the plate is still wet. Hope this help
@@giannicusumano3916 I thought it is possible somehow after sensitised using the plate as dry plate. Is it not possible using albumen, sensitise and save the plate to use let's say on the next day?
wow... spero tanto che fai vedere anche il passo successivo! 😍
Beautiful
Perfect negative, gorgeous print, quality content!
Beauty ambrotype, thanks for sharing Gianni. Very inspiring for the work I plan. Gerry
Thanks Gerry...! I hope to see your work once you finish it!
What technique are you displaying here, what type of print is that? It is pretty cool
Douglas Wilkinson those are ambrotypes...it is wet plate collodion! Thanks
I thought they looked like wet plates but then I was wondering is that some kind of mask you overlay on the image
I just watched again. I got it now
No Douglas, there is no mask on the image. All of those are genuine double exposure...
Hey Gianni, I am digging your videos. Keep up the good work, and nice portable dark room set up
Good job, did you do anything to keep the tea/coffee toning from staining the paper?
Just a long and deep wash in water!
Beautiful. Great texture.
Thanks Randy I appreciate it.
