      You can also get the Demo and License through STEAM for those that like to keep their downloads together. As i showed someone this week I recommend that people download, try or watch videos of play before sticking with a vtt. Also the preference depending can vary greatly with GM/Player or to what extent you wish to take your table top experience.

    Thanks. Did i understand correctly that - height change for tokens and walls - is separate module? And second question what your players think about foundry? Im asking this because one of my players had like one or two game sessions in foundry couple of years ago, and at that time he got feeling that players side UI is very complex maybe even overcomplicated and hard to grasp for a newcomer.

    • @GMCoblin
      @GMCoblin 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      SO I use two modules, Wall height & Levels. It makes it easy to build multiple levels and stairs or elevators going up and down. So, base Foundry for me will have 4 buttons(token,measure,drawing,journal) each of those will have a secondary row when clicked but they are all hover for label and have tool tips that pop up with them. You can also turn off drawing. R20 has 6 and some options under half. I will agree that Foundry has a learning Curve, more so like always for the GM. But I find this as a Pathfinder Player because, like everywhere, priority support is for newer systems. But I had to put in all the codes and buffs for R20. So if you can figure that out Foundry should be no problem to people. I reccommend having them look at the web page for Foundry. There is a DEMO game you can log into as a player. Its PF2 but it will let you see the settings and how the system generally works. There are also games on YT and other people that show around the system.

    i was lookin at Foundry for long time thinking to transfer my PF1e game from roll20 (100mb storage feel really restrictive) because there is no one time license for roll20 and there is for Foundry. But i was always scared by perceived complexity of foundry. So can you please tell about your experience with Foundry in terms of how hard it was for you to setup game here and how much time did it take? And one more question, is it possible in Foundry just straight up copy other people setup when it comes to modules and automation?

    • @GMCoblin

      So I'll try to do a video about this. You can do a search and see other showing content. When it comes to learning curve, it does have one. But it's mostly as much of one as you want it to be. You can set it up like free roll 20. Put on map, drop tokens and erase fog as they go. If you want to use the token vision you need to make sure there is lights and have to put walls down. When it comes to copying, not that I know of.

I use morale boost and focus on collision with with fierce clash. Clash lets me collision prone weaker mobs so I can help stun mobs in an area for dps or just use it to push mobs off bridges for when my shield rush is down.

    PF1 was the first system I actually took the time to learn. I had played older DnD before, but I was basically hand held through playing it. My best friend introduced me to PF1 in high school, and I actually read the books, and, for the first time, I WANTED to learn all I could about the system. Even after all the years, and becoming a 5e DM of a group of my own, I still loved PF1, and wanted to eventually transition my players to PF1. At the moment, I am getting really into PF2e, and I am loving that system as well. After all the OGL stuff, I have fully transitioned my home groups to PF2e, but I still love PF1e. I think, some day soon, I will run a PF1e game with my group. Show them why I love the system; and maybe they will love it too.

    • @GMCoblin
      @GMCoblin หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah> I have 1 game that is 5e, they are super casual players so I want our limited time to be as easy as can be and they dont want to have to learn newer rules. My other groups just stick with PF1. Really, I like some of the things in PF1 and have even looked to it as a way to balance any changes or custom things I have done in PF1 because I view content in PF1 that was not visited again or changed and see how it evolved in their new system in comparison. I do love the PF1 system as it lets me mix in anything I miss from my old 3.5days and has such a diverse creation system that lets you get out as much as you put in to your creation.

    So many vtts. I'm gonna sound like a broken record on all these videos, but I wish Cyberpunk 2020 had more support. So far I am using Foundry and it is working great for 2020, even if it's a bit wonky and the game has a different system for health and armour......But a module that would reduce the armour and health values for me would be great. I can't seem to use regular health system for it, so it's all manual for me. At least the maths is done automatically.

    • @GMCoblin
      @GMCoblin 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      O how slow we kill. somtimes. I have to admit im playing around with a 3rd weapon option. Mostly to amuse me. But, to mob when Im solo I use most the same passive and swap in Vampiric, you can grap devotion and wraiths. You will use Touch of despair, corrupted circle, time for punishment to either amp your abilities with enchanting time or single debuff, cursed nightmare and karmic haze. Use curse explosion when you have 3 stacks on touch and most your mobs are cursed, I use chaotic shield defense to help with that. And i use corrupted magic circle. I keep piercing strike for area melee, counter barrier, i can throw in annihilating slash, have used shot at victory(with area addon) and and I have used controlling rake to drag ranged to my group. I tend to not have to use an emergency heal or run out of mana with vampiric and selfless. Groups feel much better than single targets thats for sure. and it has a bit of a setup for the group.

    • @GMCoblin
      @GMCoblin 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So, thats kind of an issue. There are classes that are arguably better than others. But It depends on what you want to do. I recommend people find what they like, something that sounds cool and see what class fits to that or does what they want the best and go from there. And there are enough rules, archetypes and classes that you can find something that fits. Unchained monk generally is better than regular monk. Core Rogue is worse because if you want something done right, there is a class that can do it better. I have seen T5 classes out dps and be the star of the party. And I have seen T1 full casters just feel like they couldnt do anything. I think if you want a list, we should put a heading on it that says "For this purpose " choose these classes.

People criticize it for being number-crunching-heavy, etc., and it can be, but from a 30+ years DM perspective, it is the most versatile, possesses the best pre-printed module storylines, and gives you the best foundation and versatility to world build. I am still building my world in PF1. As for specific issues, the game is yours and that of your players, as soon as you buy the rulebooks, cut out what you do not like, focus on what you do like, collaborate with your players to create the best, most fun gaming experience.

      Agree. My current big game is a custom world, built and changed, from rules to lore by my players and I. We use custom feat and skill rules.

      @@GMCoblin Yep. It works great. There are a lot of systems that are fun to play, but I like PF1 the best for that.

    I been a PF and DND 3e dungeon Master for 14 years . My cousin told me about PF . I usually run a game where the Players are pathfinder heroes and my monsters and modules are 3e. Most customizations , most options , most play styles and realistic combat is is 3. PF,s best selling points . Admittedly i am not that clued up on Golarion although i played several adventure paths .

    Pathfinder 1e has and will always have a special place in my heart. It´s the only system I know that tries simulating a high fantasy world, and does so with somewhat great accuracy. Sure, it´s wonky, it´s complex and it can be broken - but honestly, I´ve never met a system besides the most streamlined ones (looking at you, PF2e) that can´t be broken. PF1e´s complexity is exactly what makes it enticing even to this day, because there´s always something new to play which I´ve never done before. Classes, mechanics, equipment and whatnot feel distinct enough from each other to really make two characters from each other, even if they are "just" front-line hitters like a fighter or a barbarian. You will never get this much depth out of any other TTRPG, especially not pseudo-complex ones like 5e. Also, PF1e can be difficult. It´s not built to protect your PCs. If you fight a challenge, expect your PCs to be endangered. If you explore deadly dungeons, expect the threat of death, it CAN happen. PCs are powerful enough not to die every single battle, but squishy enough to make battles interesting. Unlike some other systems where you pretty much just hack yourself through a bunch of useless enemies. Lastly, the world of Golarion is a very interesting place. It´s a kitchen sink fantasy alright, but the different styles of play really blend together well. It doesn´t feel like one country is completely disconnected from it´s neighbors by virtue of being a different style of fantasy. The whole world blends together as a whole, and it does so really well with much rich lore to explore. Also, the world of early PF1e is a beautiful dark fantasy setting, it´s gritty, edgy and dangerous. They made it smoother over the progress of 1e and then actively started pulling out some teeth in 2e, but for what it´s worth, Golarion is still one of the darker fantasy settings out there, which I love. Also, Paizo keeps expanding on the world, unlike WotC who have basically given up all of their D&D world and only use them whenever they see fit to cashgrab.

      @GMCoblin 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. I love it. The danger of the possible death. Where even at higher levels my players know it's too dangerous to be stupid. And I have some friends that don't like the over powered possibility in the game. But I tell them. You get what you put in. Either way the plethora of character possibilities is endless. I can spend my time just making characters.

    I am a (mostly) forever GM and while I ran PF1e for years (and still like the system) I have struggled to make encounters for hight level play (>8th level). But for 1st through 8th level the system is really really good. Also, while I am making home brew for PF2e I have far more confidence with doing this in 1e. I own almost all of the official Paizo releases for PF1e and still refer to them for ideas. I am now running PF2e and can see the weaknesses there but still (for now) am preferring running 2e. Still, thank you for the video and the perspective.

      Pf2 is great. I did not get my main group to try it. We still do pf1. But it is more balanced I think in characters which leads itself to easier encounter creation at levels and the worrying of breaking something when we home brew. Encounters for pf1 for me is more a feel for my party, art. Have no fear I will endeavor to remind you of the seasons long since past as you march forward. PF2 is a fine system. I actually look to it, as a way to see creators minds and progression when I change something or add something in pf1.

      @@GMCoblin Your comment about 'feel for my party' is well taken. I found in the 12-16 range (usually my campaigns were running down by 16-17) I had to really specifically build to give my more 'roleplayer-y' players to have a spotlight and not have my more 'min/max-y' players not rule every encounter (social/explore/combat). It was really hard and like any system the players will come up with things that you haven't prepared for.

      Yeah, Elephant in the room is our most common. We have used str for some characters for intimidation. I will be removing the language feature from linguistics so my characters dont know 20 languages. It invalidates some class features and spells. Also, instant learning of a language can bee too convenient. I say if its something everyone has to have in that niche or if you find that a play style is almost never done then there is something that can be fixed. I talk it over and we try stuff.

    It’s so good to see Pathfinder content still being made. I love PF1e and cut my teeth on 3.0 - when 5e came out, I felt like I was crazy for being the only person who didn’t like the changes made and felt like the system was impoverished by the direction WotC went with it.

    • @GMCoblin
      @GMCoblin 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah. I started on 2e and loved 3.5 then pathfinder for how they changed it. I use 5e to teach people and a couple groups i have prefer it but I mostly do Pathfinder. PF2e is cool and keeps to more of the feel but I prefer the old action system, Though I have changed a few things as we have gone, pulling from PF2 changes. In some cases using the direction they went with the rules for a idea of any open holes they left when they stopped PF1.

    PF1E is great when everyone has the same system mastery. When there is a larger disparity, it makes 5E look down right balanced in comparison.

      System knowledge is very much rewarded. This is where another player, my power gamer, and I try to assist any other players with ideas if they want. I try to target everyone's strengths so they can all feel special. My groups are pretty good to not try and step on anyone else or overshadow someone.

    • @ColdNapalm42

      @GMCoblin my group can work around it isn’t really dealing with the issue. If it was so simple as everyone do their own things and don't outshine somebody doing their own thing, 5E forums wouldn't be full of balance issues from DMs.

    Genuinely happy people are still enjoying this system years later. I have fond memories of just getting into it back in the day, first as a splatbook extension to 3.5, and then embracing the system whole cloth. All the rules with extensive additions being online for free was amazing when WotC was selling 3+ books a month. Which, besides being expensive, was a logistical problem of remembering what feature was buried where in which book. Towards the end of my play with it, though, I was dreading character creation, because I'd get to feats and be faced with a giant wall of them and I'd go into analysis paralysis ptsd.
