Cumberland, BC - THE BEST MTB on EARTH!
Cumberland, Britsh Columbia on Vancouver Island is, in my opinion, THE BEST place to mountain bike....in the WORLD! I'm not saying it has the best trail in the world, but is the best place to ride. Why? You ask very politely and pleasantly, I hope! Because it has almost 200! - 200!!! trails with a massive variety from easy, beginner Green's all the way to epic jump and gnar Double Black Diamond's. All within a 5 to 50 minute mountain bike ride from the Cumberland Village.
I could go on and on about Cumberland, but for now...enjoy the sights and sounds of "Cumby" riding.
Let me know...what place do you think is the BEST place to ride (and not just because it has your favorite trail...but has super easy access to food, bathrooms, bike-washing stations, bike shops, etc...).
Come at me!!! : )

      Thx for the comment! I too found it rode almost like an XC or trail bike but definitely didn’t find it plush. I loved the “rides like an analog bike” feel but found it not stable enough on the chunk. I’d buy it all day long at half the $12k price though. Never rode a Switchblade but it’s been on my “eventual” bikes I’d love to ride and own. Cheers!

    I have both a 2023 Pivot Trail 429 (trail version) and a 2023 Tallboy V5, both are amazing bikes. I would say that the 429 has an edge on the Tallboy in climbing while the Tallboy has a slight edge on the downhill. Pivot does offer the 429 in an enduro version (Fox 36 / 140mm) that would probably compare to your build. I too am planning to upgrade my Tallboy to a Fox 36 140mm and cascade component link to make it essentially a “Highboy.”

    I think you're exactly right. If you want the best bike for one aspect of MTN biking, the Tallboy isn't for you. If you want to have one really nice bike that you take care of and use for everything, it's one of the best choices. Personally, I'd rather have one 9k bike than two 4.5k bikes. I like not having to choose which will be better for the trail I'll ride that day, and not having to pick which to bring on trips. This is coming from someone with 7 snowboards, but those take up a lot less room in a truck!

    My friend has a regular Mtn bike and a Sur Ron electric bike. I see your point about being able to ride more and explore. I think it’s important to be open minded to the benefits of an eMTB and extra advantages of a Sur Ron that gives you full throttle assist and closer to an MX bike if you’re into that.

    • @pedalpoonces
      @pedalpoonces ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - I know MANY regular riders that absolutely despise E-mtb's. Unfortunately, in most cases, they've never even tried one. You can't help but smile and laugh when you're on a good one zooming (pedaling with assist) uphill! As for the Sur Ron (and similar throttle electric bikes), I'm not a fan of having those on mtb trails as they can (and do) trash the trails/corners/berms, etc. But on logging roads and double-track - have at'm! There is a slippery slope (pun intended) with how much power, tire size, and capability (the rider has) an e-bike should have on regular single track trails. At least with Class 1 e-bikes (no throttle, capped at 20 mph assistance, and only GO when you pedal), they tend to be very similar to regular analog bikes. Thus, can't do much damage to the trails OR too much damage to other riders (vs flying along without having to pedal on Class II and III e-bikes). The good part is there are more and more options for every different type of rider! We just have to be respectful of the trails and all other riders. Cheers!

      @@pedalpoonces if you’re exploring backcountry roads it’s a great option to have a Sur Ron. They’re the same price and less expensive than many bicycle brand eMTBs plus are faster can be upgraded with Fox Forks and shocks plus Hayes, Shimano and Magura brakes. My friends is really sweet! I’m thinking about building up one myself

    What other rarely mentioned or "secret" advantages are there to riding E-mtb's? 🚲🌩

      AGE as in Your mind says let's go and your body says " oh hell No" I quit riding at 70 and then tried an e bike . " holy sht " it was like i was 25 years younger . i'm 77 now and recently bought a NOX E mtb with the german made Sachs motor . 112 Nm and very smooth and natural . the best part of the ride for me is going up . i dont do kamakazi downhills anymore as my balance sucks .😂

      @@siriosstar4789 Ha ha. Yes, AGE is a massive part of deciding on getting an e-mtb! Even my body at 50 is often saying “hell no”! Very cool you’re still shredding at 77 Sirios! I hope to do the same…and almost 100% sure it will be on an e-mtb at that time. Or maybe a hover-mtb? 🤷🏼‍♂️🤣

    Nice video. Thanks! Did you try the trek exe and how was that motor power compared to the shuttle SL? Did it have enough oomph. I don’t want a full power heavy bike but at 66 I do want enough power. I too ride a TallBoy but gen 1, so anything will feel less squirrely to me.

      Thx tomordr!! Yes, I did try the Exe and it was GREAT! A review of it is coming soon, but in the meantime, I’ll give you a hint…I MUCH preferred it over the Shuttle SL. And that is high praise coming from a non-Trek fan. Ha ha.

      THANK YOU Bisesh!! Your comment is just what I needed. And yes, sadly, click-baity thumbnails/titles are likely needed. As for more light ebike reviews…stay Subscribed…some Choice Rad and Awesome ones are coming! 😎😃😀

    You hit it spot on! I’m in the exact same dilemma - 90nm specialized levo expert at 50lbs or 50nm trek fuel exe 9.5 at 44lbs??

    • @pedalpoonces
      @pedalpoonces ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm - tough dilemma. You could also consider the Orbea Rise at 60nm and varies from 36 to 45 lbs depending on build! I guess the good part is there are more and more quality choices than ever before!

      @moosicman101 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pedalpoonces agreed. i considered the rise, but i’m not a fan of the shimano motor and 445mm chainstay. 60nm feels spot on. my levo has 455mm chainstays and it can feel like a bus. the brose motor engages incredibly naturally and the belt drive is a nice touch.

      @@moosicman101 interesting. Curious, are you not a fan of the Shimano Ep8 motor (on many bikes) or the EP8 RS (only on the Rise)? Cuz I personally have ridden the Ep8 on several bikes and really didn’t like THAT motor. But the RS version on the Rise was really smooth and more natural feeling. My two cents. Regardless, so many solid choices now! Go get’m!

      @@pedalpoonces fair point - i’ve only tried the standard ep8 and not the ep8 rs. the ep8 felt and sounded so egregious that it put me off getting a santa cruz heckler (which felt like a great package at ~48lbs). i had also heard that the rs is a better version of the shimano motor, but felt at the time that a detuned version of the same motor internals and chassis would still make for a poor motor. you’ve convinced me to give the ep8 rs a try on the rise. i’ve seen so many here in northern california, only being beat by levos. did you notice any sort of rear frame flex on the rise given that it’s a pretty simple split pivot yoke design? i do prefer an incognito look on emtbs that don’t draw attention to the motor housing like what pivot and the trek exe have done (unlike the yamaha motor on the new giant x), and super short 29er chainstays. still hoping for that perfect 40lb e-bike with a DW/VPP-esque platform and discreet looks under 7k, but i think i’ll have to stick to my 52lb levo comp for a while longer. great problems to have.
