How to build a trailer for utility or camper base
I built a utility trailer 5x10 based on the 3500 lbs axle. The process is pretty straightforward if you have plans. I draw all my plans in Fusion 360. If you need plans, send me the request, it's free. First, I cut the tubes(1x2) to size using the band saw. Next, weld it together to make a frame. The more advanced part is the tongue. I use 2x3 tubes for it and 3x3 for the coupler bar where the coupler is bolted. This part is extended to match the clearance of my truck. The horizontal lines of the truck and the trailer should be the same for better and safer towing. The tongue tubes is starting from the point where the front eye of the leaf spring is connected to the frame. The other most important part is the position of the axle on the frame. I used some calculations to predict the weight distribution. Of course, it's just a raw guess based on my understanding of this issue. If you decide to repeat the steps you need to make sure you understand what you will put on your trailer. For a camper and a utility box it will be different, the position of the axle may vary.

TOYOTA BRAKES on a fully loaded offroad rig with trailer
มุมมอง 10428 วันที่ผ่านมา
My Tacoma front brakes have been worn down in the middle of a long travel trip with a loaded trailer. I realized that I didn't check the brakes in time. On the way back I heard an awful sound from the brakes but it worked fine, just metal on metal. My advice for all: check your brakes regularly especially if you have additional weight on your truck/car. SUBSCRIBE for more details and more cool ...

Camper tent | DCDC charger | door gas struts [Episode 24]
มุมมอง 4663 หลายเดือนก่อน
Installing tent, DCDC charger, and door struts for my offroad camper. The tent itself is very hard to make because of the shape of the wedge-style camper top. The installation was easier, it's just riveting through the aluminum plates that hold the tent on the perimeter. The tent was installed on the inside edge of the roof frame and camper upper frame. When it's folding it folds inside the cam...

Offgrid solar power for my custom camper build. Unboxing solar panels, controller, and inverter. Prepare brackets and install panels on the roof. Connect battery protection and install the battery in the camper. This protection can slowly discharge each battery bank if it's overcharging. It's a very simple but helpful feature. Thanks. I purchased aluminum tubing in Metal-Werx, Santa Clara, CA

This product is not available on Amazon. But I can say that the seller sent me a free replacement for the rear camera when the original one failed after our winter trip to Mt Shasta. I don't have any affiliation with them, just dropped a message and they responded quickly. Hope any seller can provide such a level of support.
Was worrying about bending and fatigue on that AL floor frame assembly but it sounds like it's holding up?
three years and no issues with floor
Looks great. For the amount of riveting you do, I would highly recommend the DeWalt Rivet Tool. Works really well
it's a must for the next project, thanks
@@realsystemrobot Have you thought about getting a welder? Aluminium is a steep learning curve, but you can get to a reasonable DIY level after about a week or two of practice. I just got a small 180A AC tig machine with HF start, being able to weld aluminium opened up some great options for fabrication for me. In any case, I'm really enjoying your build series and you have some good ideas in this camper. Well done.
@@SethjxlI have a MIG welder and use it for steel fabrication when it's needed. For the camper I specifically designed this type of construction. I think welding aluminum for this project is not needed, rivets are stronger for this application. And I don't use the full frame. Also, I think heating/welding aluminum makes metal weak. Even if you have all the additional equipment for pre-heating/post-heating, even if you practice a lot, then you still end up with some weak points somewhere. Of course, professional welders can argue and provide a great level of experience but this is not my case.

Cheap Chinese made high frequency inverters like these that don't have an iron core copper wound output transformer are not recommended . nor are they safe for use in a mobile application because they are not UL458 listed or certified. They also offer a wimpy surge capacity and a short life expectancy.
Looking great. Good choice on battery charger too, the renogy 60A dcdc allows you to trigger it on and off, unlike most others that will keep draining starter battery until it drops below 12.4v.
are the rivet into ACM waterproof?
Not sure, depends on the diameter of the hole I think. In my case, I used sealant in the critical places where water can go(roof and angled parts of the walls) and glue where it's connected to aluminum parts.
Hi man, I’m looking forward to do this mountain in either late May or early June. I am an experienced advance hiker and getting into mountaineering. I did intro class last year and knew what I was doing. Did some high altitude hikes but this will be my first 14er attempt. Would Shasta be the best place to get into mountaineering?
Yes, it's a good place to start and it has a few different routes including the winter route where you can use ropes.
@@realsystemrobot is the winter route the avalanche gulch?
@@jonnyboy3048 some people use Avalanche Gulch anytime. But what I mean is northern routes. I didn't use it, you better find official information about it, I think it's dangerous.
Honestly this looks like a lot of fun
Agree, I didn't expect this amount of work on the way back. And I didn't check the weather in the region because I had to go this route anyway.
I like 1:50's pink pants.

not yet, will do soon
@@realsystemrobot thanks, looking forward to it.
do you have any overview or layout that shows what you plan to build?
There is no special video about it but you can see results in my non-build videos for the last three years. Please, check the full list of videos on my channel, most of the offroad-type videos can show some details. Especially Mammoth lakes.
Hey sir! I love your build. Would you make a walkaround detailed video on the exterior and interior of the finished product? I would love to see a closer look at the finished work. I have seen most of your build videos and love them. Thanks! Cheers
Enjoyed watching your video. Our adventure to Hole in the Rock was amazing! Hard to believe old pioneer wagons went down that thing!
I was just there in a Honda made it all the way up 😅😅
no video, not happened
Doable on a mountain bike?
For a skilled rider - maybe yes. There are a lot of uphill on a loose rock surface. I would not recommend riding a bicycle for the whole trail. It's more like UTV-rated.
Bringing a food truck is a good idea.
How did the camper held up? I've recently found your YT on FB.
Did very well, no issues.
What dirt road is that at the very end?
It's a Silver canyon trail: goo.gl/maps/UnagJthW4JJbgjCP9

Hey bud this is great footage! I just picked up a 4x4 after a long time without. I was thinking of taking the kids to gold lake. What trails did you take to get there? Also what sort of camera mount gave you such smooth footage? Thanks!
I just used Gold Lake Rd from Gold Lake Hwy. The camera mount is the factory one installed in Tacoma from the factory on the windshield. Also, I did stabilize it by the software when cutting the video.
Thanks for making these videos! I’m gonna switch from vanlife to truck camper life soon and these videos are sooo helpful! 😅
Hi is axe necessary in mid-July?
Anytime, just a good tool for the job, even if there is no snow. I used it to hold myself on a windy side when lost the trail on big rocks.

Problem is many idiots in these so called off road communities or clubs or individual enthusiasts would drive right up to the tree if they could, no seconds thoughts. Camp right next to it and use it's dead branches for roasting marshmellows.
