Cricut Design Space Basics: Card Design
In this video, I’m going to take you through my process for creating a card in Design Space. My first step after deciding what size card to make is to make the card base. I demonstrate using the contour feature to customize images from Design Space.

This is the BEST video! I searched and searched for this help. Wondering if you could help with why, even though I have mirror print on, it's not printing mirror so I can press it on.
It's likely something in yor printer settings. You can switch "Use System Dialog" on to adjust them. The printer may have a mirror setting on.

What if it's an image that is a png with colors and doesn't need a white background to be added?
If the background is solid, you wouldn't need to add a white background. You can print then cut without adding a background and the interior parts won't cut. If there are gridlines visible, then there isn't a solid background, and you would need to add one so that only the outside of the image is cut.
@@LydiaWatts Thanks. I make little 4 x 4 Greeting cards, and no matter what I do, the text and images just don't look crisp to me. I use the highest print quality. I create the cards in Canva.
@@barbra429 You'll get better results if you use Canva Pro and generate SVG files.
@@LydiaWatts I already use Canva Pro. Do you have a video on how to do this. I am not cutting out card designs, I am making the design in Canva, uploading it to Cricut and just having Cricut to do the print and cut. The actual printing of the design itself is coming out of my printer, then it's placed on my mat and Cricut just cuts the square shape.
@@barbra429 If you are already using Canva Pro, you just need to export as a SVG to get the best quality image.

What type of paper is this? Does it have to be a specific type of paper? Thank you!
I used smooth cardstock. Writing usually looks better on smooth cardstock as opposed to textured cardstock. You can use cardstock or paper.
How do get the black box so the register marks are picked up. I get them to print but can’t get mine to cut says no registration marks. Thanks
You'll need to go through the troubleshooting steps: help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009426434-I-m-getting-an-error-that-the-machine-cannot-read-the-cut-sensor-marks. If you are still having trouble, you'll need to call Cricut.

You don't need to do anything. Your image will print fine.

This video was so helpful as I'm just getting started with print and cut. Yesterday my images came out all blurry as I was trying it out for the first time. I saw a lot of people complaining online that Cricut DS doesn't print properly, maybe it's because they didn't use these steps??? Thanks for making this! Now I can go and purchase my new printer.
I was wondering if I could do this using transparent printer paper or on printable vinyl? I've never done a print then cut. I was feeling very intimidated, but this really helped. I kept getting the blurry print and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Thank you.
You're welcome. I've printed on transparencies and printable vinyl with no issues. I would suggest practicing on regular cardstock or printer paper.

As soon as I flatten it gets rid of the circle and cuts the image I put inside! What am I doing wrong?
It’s hard to say without seeing your design. Your background image must be completely solid. Make sure you have all the layers selected, including the background image, before you flatten. Your layers panel should contain one flattened set.

I never use the grid, but you explaining how the grid changing confirms the project gets done correctly was exactly what I needed. The images are printed on the shiny side of the paper. I talk about this in my blog post. The link is in the video description.

@@dthomascful I've only ever used the Cricut clear sticker paper because I like the quality. If you are using regular white sticker paper, there are lots of options on Amazon. You may have to experiment with a few brands to find one you like.

Yes, print then cut uses your home printer to print the design and the Cricut cuts the design out.
