Description:
Addiction treatment has been driven by a pathologizing model that leaves out the wisdom of the body in the healing journey. This forum will bring together leading experts who will share the evolving new paradigms based on cultural trends, scientific discoveries, recent research, new clinical approaches, and treatment center experiences.
This event will address aspects of managed care at treatment centers. It will present the inter-related treatment of trauma and addiction using bottom-up and top-down integrative approaches. Through our panelist presentations and discussions, clinicians, practitioners, professionals, and staffers can get the big picture and in-practice insights for treatment.
The Q&A segment will address today's pressing questions in our field.
This USABP Forum precedes the 2022 International Body Psychotherapy Journal Spring-Summer Issue (our international peer-reviewed journal) that will feature articles, research, book reviews, and more on addiction.

« Any thing that provide pleasure or relief and therefore craves » is not a correct definition of addiction. You can get relief or pleasure from something and not crave for this. To write like this you can tell he was never really addicted and does not really know addiction from the inside. In my opinion, he is more a great social thinker and writer than an addiction expert.

I just wanted to point out that Gabor made a comment that stated something about how individuality is toxic, when he has stated in previous podcasts that individuality is something we need in society. I think what he meant to say is that indivdualism is toxic.

Really liked the information. Exercise actually opened up my nervous system with yawning, always my clue it is working well. Thanks for the tieing it to the polyvagal theory. Ties nicely also to Daniel Siegels work and others articulating a means to ground and broaden our awarness through the softening into the ventral vagus healing nerve. Thanks Liam and Boaz.

My anxiety is severe. I find small subtle moments that bring attention to the body to be anxiety creating. Just doing the tongue thing created a mild sense of panic, if mild panic can be a thing. One of the things that helps me is weight training. There are all sorts of things going on with endorphins etc but I also find the very powerful, aggressive, unsubtle movements reassuring and effective. It tames the energy rather than counter acting it. I've never been good with subtle exercises. They make me feel restricted. Is there a way get closer to being able to do exercises like this?

Not being able to settle is a simplistic way of describing what happens. it's complicated and I can't pin down exactly what happens. It's confusing. I have Complex PTSD and have heard that this is quite a common problem for people with this condition. I can't meditate at home but I have been on retreats where I was able to.
