I was 22 when I had SSHL. I developed a Staph infection and was given calculated dosages of medication. Unfortunately the after effects were possible hearing loss. I woke up on New Year’s Day with vertigo and a headache. I was given steroid injections and remember crying my eyes out as the ENT specialist told me there was nothing they could do to regain my hearing. It has been quite challenging being in loud places but I look back on how I managed to grow and adapt. It’s comforting hearing your story. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for your story and bravery. My 65 year old wife has SSHL, started 36 days ago. Primary care doc put her on Medrol Dosepack for a believed sinus infection. At two weeks, ENT started her on oral Prednisone 60mg/day for two weeks. At 3.5 weeks, hearing just slightly improved from total loss to severe, (12% word recognition) so ENT suggested injection that day. She wasn't ready for it. Another week later and the audiology exam showed more improvement, to 52% word recognition. Her speech reception threshold dropped to 50db from 80db. ENT said hearing loss now considered moderate to moderately severe, and that a hearing aid might now probably help, and wanted to do the injection again, but wife balked and asked for another week. We know the results vary, but we also know time is of the essence, and she is scheduled for her 1st injection tomorrow, but she's probably not going to do it out of fear that she'll have permanent side effects, like her ear permanently feeling full, or a return of the white noise or tinnitus, or just anything else that would make things worse. Initially the other effects of the hearing loss were very bad (white noise, ear feeling full) and they've eased to the point where she feels she can live with "the devil she knows vs the one she doesn't." I think she should absolutely get the injection(s), but it's not my body and I don't know what she went through for the first month, I only watched her suffer. I know people's success rate varies greatly, but has anyone gotten worse after the injections and/or had permanent side effects from it? Or the opposite? Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

I am a Vietnamese Canadian live in Vancouver over 40 years . To me whenever we want to eat Pho we go “ Pho Zen “ on Marine Dr , when we want to eat Bún bò Huế we go “. Hội An “ on Victoria Dr , when we want cơm tấm bì sườn we go “ Thái Sơn “ on Broadway Those places food are very good and the price reasonable

Ahhh those injections are horrific! I would never do them again ever. Your story is so much like mine. I do now finally have a diagnosis of inner ear autoimmune disease. Thank goodness I now know it’s something I could not have prevented. It is soul crushing when you can’t hear. Lip reading is great but I urge you to look at cochlear implants over the CROS hearing aid.

Healthcare failed me too. Twice now. My right ear, I had the flu, then had a horrible episode of vertigo. They sent me home, saying I needed drug rehab. I ended up having a stroke in my sleep and woke up deaf. No one would treat me even though I couldn’t hear and knew it. (I had a job in healthcare) I couldn’t even get a hearing test. I struggled for almost two years with severe hearing loss until someone took me seriously. I went through the process to obtain an OSIA hearing implant, could hear again and thought everything was on a better track. Little did I know that I was wrong. Last year I got COVID, and noticed that suddenly my OSIA wasn’t working. I immediately contacted my doctor, who saw me asap. The results? I lost the rest of my hearing in my right ear and more than half of the hearing in my left ear . I was administered high dose steroids to try to get some hearing back, but it didn’t help. So as of right now, I’ve had to get a hearing aid in my left ear, and on May 14th this year I will undergo surgery to have my OSIA removed and a traditional Cochlear implant surgically placed. You can get hearing back! Cochlear Implants are amazing.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. This is happening to me. I have been scouring the internet looking for answers. After 3 Doctors & 4 Chiropractic Appointments and Emergence room visit not 1 of them knew what I had or what to do, besides you have vertigo & it will go away on its own. Got to an ENT Dr., got 2 rounds of oral steroids & 1 round of antibiotics. No hearing at all in my right ear. Then referred to a Neural Otology, ENT Specialist that only does ears. 1 round of steroid injections through the ear drum followed by a month of waiting then a hearing test. Results no hearing in my right ear, so now onto my 4 options. 1. Do Nothing 2. Cross Hearing Aid 3. Bone Achor Implant 4. Cochlear Implant Starting all the tests & prequalifications for a Cochlear Implant hoping my insurance with cover the implant. Thank you for sharing all that you did. I'm sorry your hearing did not come back for you. Knowing all that you did & it still didn't come back gives me some hope and reassurance because mine did not come back and it will all be ok

oh my goodness gurl I feel ya like 2nd gen kpop groups hit different, I remember listening to Shinee, Infinite and 2pm back in the days!! Also whenever I visited Calgary, we would always visit San Dong Banjeom because of their half & half for jjangmyeon and jjampong! So filling and the taste never disappointed us haha
