Strategic Risk Management vs. ERM
มุมมอง 3.9K11 ปีที่แล้ว

Special Issues on Measure Organizational Risk
มุมมอง 24111 ปีที่แล้ว
Measuring Risk is slightly different than performance measurement - most significantly around determining how far out in time the measures need to "see". Overall it is the time required to mitigate the risk that determines ho far out the measure must "see". In this video Brett Knowles walks the viewer through the concept and some simple examples.
The Three Types of Risk Measures
มุมมอง 14K11 ปีที่แล้ว
Experience tells us that there are three broad types of Risk Measures - those that measure risk-related activities (KRI - Key Risk Indicators), those that measure the effectiveness of your risk controls (CEI - Control Effectiveness Indicators) and non-predicitve measures that would detect any unexpected risk related events (KPI - Key Performance Indicators). Brett Knowles takes us through this ...
Strategy Drives Risk
มุมมอง 31511 ปีที่แล้ว
Strategy focuses your organization's efforts on specific issues. By nature of that focus it makes failure in those areas of greater significance than failure in other areas it drives up the risk associated with those areas. Research indicates that most risks are mismanaged not because they were not recognized, monitored or discussed, but because there was no alignment around the impact of that ...

    Hi i am currently studying Risk management. Can yo you explain this in a bit more detail, the tile is (SRM) vs (ERM) but i thought (TRM) was different than (ERM) i understand that changes in the 1990s led to (ERM) but i thought that (TRM) was separate from (ERM)

      To the best of my understanding of risk management, ERM is the enterprise's holistic approach of risk management. your question would be, "What do I mean?" ERM manages risk from all aspects of the organization such as information security risk management, third-party risk management, financial security risk management, and legal, for the shareholders to have a broad overview to make the correct decision.

    What is the difference between the Risk Level on Strategic Risk Register (one that is computed by using the formula: Likelihood x Weight x Impact) and the Risk Level on Risk Scorecard (the other that is computed using the formula: Weight x Impact x Leading Indicator Performance, P)? Both these risk level types are represented by the Bar Chart.

    A paper I did on this... Why Intuit should use PM2 Risk Scorecard over ISO 31000 Intuit purposes to implement a strategy that embraces an Ad hoc risk management process, targets risk management, integrates risk frameworks, has some risk intelligence, and offers them risk leadership. Intuit can start using ISO 3000 as it offers solutions that consider the global risks, and are globally acceptable risk analysis standards. They are simpler to implement, and they are required for Enviso, an ERM needed for city to improve environmental performance. However, ISO 3000 has weaknesses that should challenge and discourage Intiut from using it as an ERM tool. First, it lacks a program initiative. It also lacks a direct tie to other initiatives. Using ISO 3000 standards implies Intuit will need to develop their program, but remain compliant to ISO 3000, or get third-party programs compliant to the ISO 3000 standards, which can be both challenging, time-consuming and costly in the long run (Fraser, Simkins, & Narvaez, 2014). ISO 31000 standards are not the best ERM strategy for Intuit, thereof. Although the PM2 Risk Scorecard will be part of a large process for Intuit and presents implementation difficulties to Intuit in the mitigation process, it offers a stronger tool for some of its elements that include its strong weighted method. The model introduces programs and initiatives in risk management. It also has a powerful tool for risk management. Moreover, Intuit has used the PM2 Risk Scorecard previously, so the team understands the tough implementation process for environmental risk mitigation. Clearly, the Intuit should continue using PM2 Risk Scorecard as it is a better environmental risk management tool, and more features inclusive ERM tool (Fraser, Simkins, & Narvaez, 2014). I will, hereby, recommend PM2 Risk Scorecard. Reference Fraser, J., Simkins, B., & Narvaez, K. (2014). Implementing enterprise risk management: Case studies and best practices. John Wiley & Sons.

    Impressive result and useful bar line risk indicators. But how practical is this 'We've got to assemble a multi page risk register!' Too complex, too busy and too abstract (I can imagine the reaction to asking people to sit down and pull risks or concerns out of the air) Risks are only risks if they are part of what we do (or intend to do) In my company - simply list the basic operational processes, add KEY sub steps in those processes and assign an extra column or two for importance and risk. The SAME sheet can also include stakeholders, customers as well as a note if any legislation or regulations. One spreadsheet = Operational flow, stake holders, importance to the company, legislation, action required Y/N?. If anything else comes up for addition- just throw in a new column to the single spreadsheet. Add in a quarterly review to 'bolt on' any new company plans, products, markets etc

    • @deepcoolclear
      @deepcoolclear 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's exactly what the author recommends here if you listened to his video, he suggests not interviewing people to avoid them pulling things out of the air. If you also listened his spreadsheet is used to initially identify the risks and then use that to populate a risk registry. The spreadsheet used here is effective and does exactly what you imply - an objective, an associated risk, a likelihood and resultant impact. In your org you say "basic operational processes" - how do you determine what's "important"? Without scoping and identifying the key risks in a top down approach (which is why he says strategy drives risk) you would be wasting resources, time and money. An adhoc approach might work in your org but his methodology here is a consistent way to approach risk mgmt.

    Some of the remarks about traditional risk management are inaccurate. Flat - you assess or review at fixed intervals or whenever de conditions determins the need!!!!!! Risk are evaluated according to the changes in the organization, if the strategy change your evaluation change, also the risk management framework. An organization that changes the estrategy must change the rest - including the risk framework ctessore@gmail risk is the responsibility of everyone
