Back in the 60’s, as a youngster, my dad’s friend built a single engine airplane in his garage. The skin was made of ‘Irish linen’. The engine was started by flipping the prop. He usually kept his young son in the plane while he flipped the prop to start. However on one occasion his son was outside the plane and Mr. H flipped the prop forgetting that the push/pull throttle was not set in the idle position. When the plane immediately started at full throttle it jumped the wheel chocks and proceeded down the grass runway until it hit a slight incline located at the edge of a reservoir. It traveled a short distance before crashing into the water. Fortunately a farmer and his tractor were able to tow the craft out of the water. Luckily no one was injured.
