Went to Fontana village many times on vacation. Great place until peppertree took it over. Stopped going and started camping in nearby Almond NC.

That tunnel is ancient. Not built in the 1800s. Other than that - this is a typical abuse of power by the government. Any government. Using the war as a pretext to do whatever they had in mind. I wonder what old world landmark was there, that they absolutely had to flood the area.

I've been to that tunnel. Walked through it and stepped in horse poop because it's dark. Would have been nice to have a second road back into Tennessee.

I've probably been to Clingman's Dome close to 100 times over the years. I've never once seen a group of Indians conducting any kind of ceremony on their "sacred mountain". But I've seen thousands of pale faces appreciating the nature in this place and also supporting it with their tax dollars. Since tribes are exempt from Federal Income Taxes, perhaps they should pony up some of that casino money to help pay the bill to support their sacred place. P.S. - An inconvenient truth - The eastern band Cherokee fought for the Confederacy.

TODAY was the first time in 30+ years I had seen anything from the DD, having just looked them up on TH-cam just now. I saw a clip from the late 80s first and then this one, and I could swear there are some of the same dancers, especially the last gentleman with the Buddy Ebsen-inspired moves. Y'all are just great and you make an Appalachian girl proud!
