Hibike! Euphonium is an anime produced by Kyoto Animation and written by Ayano Takeda about a young high school girl named Kumiko who joins the school's band along with her 3 friends. While music is its core theme, it does more than merely portraying band culture. Hibike contains compelling character drama, expending on a wide cast of character with Kumiko right in the middle who goes through quite a journey filled with ambitions and the goal to find herself. Behind her, however, is quite a sweet and explosive support character called Midori. Her role in the show is often disregarded as a side character who isn't allowed to grow. In this video, I do my best to explain just why that is and how that is actually a good thing. Learn about static characters and what makes them critical to the success of any piece of literacy, using Midori as a great example of a well written character.
This video is a cinematic experience, supported by a fully original soundtrack composed and produced by me.

In the 3rd year arc, Midori is the 2nd best instrument player behind Reina (Asuka and Mizore do not count since they graduated). I find it very interesting how her character contrasts with Reina. Asuka's personality is a combination of Reina and Midori: sometimes serious, sometimes bright and cheerful.
That was a very interesting video, thank you. I always loved Midori, and now I know why. At 6:05 to 6:28 I think she was really relatable.

woah, that was an excellently executed video essay. I've been doing them for 10 years and I must say the way you handled your points really allowed me to feel your personal connection to Euphonium. Well done! Oh and yeah, I do need to actually continue the series past the first season asap

Wow, what an good video on Maomao. I’d first like to lend my conveying of thanks for the manageable watching- you have a soothing voice and consistently keep up with scenes from the anime, not just showing your face the whole time. That, and the music that could easily be mistaken from the official OST itself. I’ve saw your comment on r/anime, and decided to check it out since I crave Kusuriya content. I’ve viewed Maomao as an fresh view on protagonists, and on episode nine, I found myself enraptured by the whole thing- the music, the intense atmosphere, the camera view- I could tell the studio put a lot of care into this anime. The story of Kusuriya itself may seem mundane to others, but deeper in the manga, we found how complex Maomao and Jinshi is and their blossoming relationship. I’d also like to point out something I found in the manga, so, spoilers- A part of Maomao’s character is a hypocrite. She experiments on her own flesh, so much that she become accustomed to poison of sorts, and deems it as normal. She has said herself how she liked the sensation of it. However, when Jinshi expresses his masochism by liking the indifference he gets from Maomao, she calls him a creep/pervert, when she is in fact a masochist herself. I personally enjoy the little humorous excerpts from the manga and anime, but I tend to focus on more behind the characters and their story. And I think that The Apothecary Diaries does it well- it is acclaimed for a reason. Once again, thank you for the essay on the best girl. :D
Well first off, thank you so much for this wonderful reply, I really appreciate the compliments! I like to think that while it's true that Maomao definitely has that maso side, it's slightly different than a pushy guy wanting the attention of all girls, which I think is what she perceives him to do. This felt pretty well conveyed in the anime as well in my opinion but maybe it's a bit more portrayed obviously in the manga! We do discover that while he's definitely a charmer, it's more that this is what he feels he can utilize since he's generally a hard worker in everything he does. His natural beauty is the only "talent" he feels he has. I think through the anime, while her perception of him doesn't seem to change, she does get to understand him a little bit more in the last scene. Maybe a sort of realization that he pays more attention to her than he let on. But anyways, this story is amazing, the characters are great and I love how much we can analyze many parts of it like this. Thank you for watching and for replying, it means a lot to me, being new to TH-cam and all!

Holy cow, I did not expect that last flash of red to the last of the drum beat affect me like that (assuming the red signifies a certain gem).
Reading this made me so happy! Every color in the video represents a gem and while some of the flashes are more chaotic, they have an intended meaning! This was one of the details I wasn't sure if the red flashed for long enough that people would see it so it really warms my heart that someone spotted it! <3
