Election Year Stress? How Music Can Help the Mind Relax
The upcoming presidential election is stressing out 69% of American adults, according to a survey from the American Psychological Association. If you’re with the majority in feeling that way, there’s important advice to consider from worldwide acclaimed soprano Renée Fleming. She’s the editor of “Music and Mind,” a curated collection of essays from leading scientists, artists, creative arts therapists, educators and health care providers about the powerful impacts of music and the arts on health and the human experience.
Renée shares how she discovered her own music and mind connection early in her career when she had back pain and how a dinner with three Supreme Court justices led her to become an unexpected advocate for neuroscience.
Renée, a five-time Grammy award winner, also explains to hosts Mark Masselli and Margaret Flinter what happened when she saw the results of a functional MRI experiment she took and what it means for all of us.

Did you know private equity now owns one-third of private hospitals in the country and the percentage is growing? Private equity is a controversial type of financing typically seen in the technology and media sectors that’s now attracted to health care. It’s a trend that greatly troubles Erin Fuse Brown. 😂Covid "virus"? Great "testings"😂? You are creeps.
Good grief people. Have you really forgotten how sick so many Americans were from Covid and flu? As an elderly woman with heart failure, getting through the winter without being a burden on my loved ones is an obligation I cannot take lightly. Love yourself enough to protect yourself and the many souls with whom you have contact. You matter. 💕
I'm an atheist but pipe organs and the hymn tune FOREST GREEN are the loves of my life. I call Forest Green "Vitamin FG". I also love Renaissance and Baroque music and anything arranged by Sir David Willcocks. I'm an enthusiastic amateur pianist and organist. But I prefer the resonant timbre of the organ. I can sing a little but I'm better at playing instruments. Music is the most important thing to me ever.
Moderating his tone and this back and forth on reproductive rights iS NOT OK. He is baiting his base - he will take away women's rights if he comes to power!! We are not dumb.
this podcast is supposed to be about healthcare not advocacy for a political party!? i’m a democrat and all but NONE OF YOU represent me or are on my side.
It`s just that I remember her recital in which she was disappointed to receive applause after classical repertoire, and insisted performing rock, or heavy metal, or something that makes most people sick in a symphony. Then, when she started lecturing politics in some interview, I vomited.

In 2009 I changed my nutritional intake to Dr. McDougall's 'Starch Solution', which is comprised of starch, grains, legumes, vegetables, fruit, nuts and natural pre-biotics. I exercise 5 days a week, and within 9 months, from starting I CURED my Pre-diabetes, weight declined from 280 lbs to 175 lbs, No HBPs, normal AC1, etc. and discontinued all 'poisonous' AMA medications, ie. Metformin (FDA Recall). I've maintained my health up til 12/27/22. Neither I personally nor any family member has IBS, IBD, SIBO or a history of it. Even though I have maintained my plant based nutritional intake, this has not diminished the constipation, diarrhea and stomach pain. Both my wife and I avoided contracting COVID from the very beginning up til 12/27/22. I've had the COVID anti-viral vaccinations Pfizer, plus two boosters, including the most recent Omicron 2 months prior to contracting COVID. My wife had the initial two shoots plus one booster. I and my wife contracted COVID on Dec. 27 2022, and have been experiencing the same GI symptoms including dehydration (cotton-mouth) 24/7, stomach pain, diarrhea and constipation. We both had loss of appetite, fever, and fatigue the first 5 days of COVID, and were clear of COVID by day 10. I went from 2-3 BMs a day, to 1-5 days of constipation and diarhea after contracting COVID. Prior to COVID my body would eliminate (B.Ms.) 2-3x a day (24 hrs.) I met with two HCP (KP) GI specialist, who actually admitted that they have absolutely NO IDEA how to treat Long COVID. My main concern was for the constipation and diarrhea, and how the stoppage has been possibly poisoning my system. All food rots. So this has been going on for 15+ months now, with basically no change in by G.I. I'm still dealing with a 'general' irritation of my stomach, constipation, diarrhea. I'm at a loss of how to get my system back to prior to COVID, very frustrating! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- (connect.mayoclinic.org/blog/post-covid-recovery/newsfeed-post/a-gut-feeling-long-covid-and-gi-symptoms/) Per Dr. Vanichkachorn (Mayo Clinic) “While we are not sure yet, there are several possible ways the COVID-19 infection could cause gastrointestinal problems,” Dr. Vanichkachorn says. “For example, the lining of the gut has a large amount of the receptors that the SARS-COV2 virus uses to invade cells. The general inflammation caused by the infection can also disrupt the normal bacteria that live in the gut and stimulate some of the gastrointestinal system’s nerves.” ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (hms.harvard.edu/news/most-important-question-about-long-covid) Viral persistence, marked by ongoing SARS-CoV-2 shedding, likely causing the virus to continuously provoke the immune system, which, in turn, leads to chronic inflammation. One study found persistent viral RNA in the feces of a subset of individuals months after clearing the original infection. These individuals also reported lingering GI symptoms months after COVID diagnosis. Another study found spike protein continuously circulating in the plasma of people with long COVID. Gut microbiome disruption. Research suggests that depletion of certain anti-inflammatory gut bacteria during and immediately following SARS-CoV-2 infection may result in lingering inflammation and contribute to the development of long-term symptoms of long COVID. Studies have found that after SARS-CoV-2 infection, some individuals develop a condition in which tight junctions - molecular channels in the gut - get looser and leakier, allowing gut microbes to seep into the bloodstream and leading to immune activation and chronic inflammation. This condition is marked by high levels of the protein zonulin, which regulates tight-junction permeability. ======================================== My attempts to get assistance from HCP (KP). Hmm. A group of. In clinicians CEO wondering why clinicians are “burned out” and lamenting how clinicians aren’t built like they used to be… Perhaps you could expend some administrative energy to actually understand what happens in the exam room, and what health center clinicians try to provide for their patients. Clinicians and patients need adequate team support from their administrations more than the usual pile of word.
The upside is the more we hear about this the more we realize what an unsung hero the public health system is, as well as the uniformed corps! Thank you for this information and, yes, thank those who serve for their service!
Frequent hyperbole and overstatement of climate change risks for political purposes, and forgetting that people could be resilient if we treated them that way, make the problem worse.

I got diagnosed with covid September 1, 2023. It's now March 27, 2024, and I wake up exhausted like I had the longest day of my life while i was sleeping. I feel like i have dementia, i can't remember words, names, appointments, things i got done. I am disgusted by a huge amount of food. Just the thought of them makes me nauseous so that has made me eat much less than normal. I already have POTS and chronic pain and mental illness, so this just escalated symptoms
I’m so glad to have stumbled on to your post! I’ve had the same aversion to foods since Feb! It started with hamburger. I suddenly couldn’t stand the thought of hamburger. Now it’s all kinds of food. Foods I loved, now make me nauseous. I thought I was nuts.

The public expected sterilizing immunity from COVID vaccines. They were over promoted by non physicians, politicians, celebs and athletes. For future public health messaging, telling the public about the type of vaccine as it relates to performance category, not just manufacturing technology, would help. we could lower our expectations. If people have become accustomed to thinking of vaccines as preventing disease transmission, and a vaccine doesn't do that effectively, the public will be disappointed, and angry because of mandates.

how about long denial? UNvaccinated people are getting long covid too. It is a post viral syndrome. It is real. You know, like HIV AIDS. And, you are at risk with every re-infection. That's why there are more and more long haulers. Everyone is still at risk vaxed or not. Good luck.

When there is no known treatment for a disease or variations in definitions prevent care, there is always supportive care. Patients should be checked for glutathione deficiency, or it could just be presumed given the fatigue. They could be put on a trial dose of 600 mg NAC x 2 times per day, vitamin D supplementation, B6, B12, and advised to get some outdoor sunshine for at least 20 min per day. They could be taught how to check their own vital signs, and use a pulse oximeter. And even to do basic lung auscultation, and listen for anything out of the ordinary for themselves. Early treatment rather than waiting three months to see if signs and symptoms persist is a missed opportunity to intervene with beneficial treatment and advice early. They should avoid things that increase oxidative stress, and avoid over exertion.Long COVID seems very comparable to other post viral syndromes and perhaps treatment for other post viral syndrome could offer some insightful guidance. They should have their electrolytes and liver function checked.

The strange thing is that ME/CFS has been around for a very long time. I never heard of it until I was diagnosed with it. Six years, I was diagnosed with reactivated Epstein Barr. Then, a year later, I was diagnosed with chronic lyme. Both tests were positive. About two years ago, I was diagnosed with ME/ CFS. This year, I came down with covid. After 5 days of antivirals, I didn't get better. My doctor called in emergency medications. Now my doctor has diagnosed me with long covid.
Thank you for this presentation on long Covid.
What a lot of waffle, I have had long covid for 2.5 years and taken whatever the doctors advised, still have serious fatigue, brain muzziness and mast cell problems. And that after a MILD bout of covid The medical profession still groping in the dark trying to decide what to call the disease never mind curing patients.
From what I understood, long covid could be due to the Vagus-nerve (fight or flight) disfunction. I'm surprised none of the doctors above talk about it since it's all over the Internet.
I am not a doctor. I caught Covid while getting over covid and having long covid. I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue years ago but seemed to be in remission for years. Anyway, I think Covid attacks whatever your weakest point is. Just as studies show that stem cells when given as treatment strengthen the worst problems first. I almost died this last time around and can barely do anything now. I was always extremely active work acholic, now I can barely get dress. I honestly know I cannot live like this, so I am seeking alternative ways of trying to fix this, am on all these medications now. This is horrible
Have you tried the nicotine patch? It’s not addictive and It seems to be giving super good results on long COVID or vax complications
