I got lucky once with IAAI. it was the only car I successfully one at an auction and it didn't run or start. I also did not inspect it before hand but I figured for $325 ($500 or so after all the generous fees), it was a ok gamble. It wouldn't start because a relay had been intentionally damagaed (someone pulled out 3 of the 4 pins in the relay). Put in a new one and it fired right up. aside from that needed new hood and bumper. Sold it for $2500. Never looked back on IAAI since as their fees are outrageous.

We recently bought an '88 StarCraft, same model. The screens are in better shape than on yours. We thought we stole it at 1,300.00 bucks. We are in Minnesota and anything close to the shape of ours was 2,500.00. You certainly got an outstanding deal on yours! All we've had the replace was the 3 tires, as they were aged. If you intend to keep it give serious thought to inspecting, cleaning the lift mechanism called the wiffletree as well ans the cables throughtout. Nothing worse than lowering the top and having a cable break halfway down when leaving a campground. OOOF!!

You said you would avoid BILL OF SALE vehicles at all costs. And you point is 100% incorrect. WA state is a BILL OF SALE state, there are 2 or 3 other states in the USA that sell vehicles on a BILL OF SALE once insurance totaled the vehicle. This is completely NORMAL for WA, and that bill of sale can be used in lieu of a title in almost every state to register the vehicle.

It's not necessarily a scam. Some people will buy the car like in the first example. Take what they want or need off, then send it back to copart to try and recoup some of their money back. Fix it Nick on TH-cam bought a super duty, took what he wanted and needed off and then he sent it back to copart for auction. From what he says the auction starts tomorrow 3-9-2021. And I know for sure he isn't scamming anyone.
