La Catrina: Part One
This photoshop was a beautiful, epic undertaking spearheaded by Liz Ruiz of LRuiz Photography. A major collab, this session was dreamy and ethereal from start to finish. Watch the Transformation of models Jamie and Gilbert take place at FullCircle Florals U-Pick flower farm.
As said best by Liz herself "Her name is La Catrina and the essence of her story goes deep into Mexican traditions and roots but has been restyled in the last century. It is believed that the Aztecs worshipped a goddess of death that they alleged protected their departed loved ones, helping them into the next stages. The Mexican tradition of honoring and celebrating the dead is entrenched deeply in the culture of it's people."
In honor of Dia De Los Muertos, I present this montage of footage from this magical photo session.

How do I plant Celosia?
มุมมอง 95หลายเดือนก่อน
Join me as I plant some end of season Celosia plants. After finding some Celosia on sale at a local box store, I couldn't help snagging some to add to our Celosia patch at the u-Pick flower farm. It will be an experiment to see if they get bouquet worthy.

@@Keigh2 I love that you love that 💐☀️
@@fullcircleflorals9228 your uploads are amazing 🎉
Have you experienced your oxeye daisies aggressively reseeding? My family in the northwest part of Oregon has a field of them. This field was previously turned into hay each year but the daisies have ruined that. Of course our climate here is drastically different and what is aggressive elsewhere often is just easy for us here.
@@GreenGranny so far they aren’t aggressive but it’s so hot I think it slows down spreading to only areas we water. 🤞
@fullcircleflorals9228 I was hoping that was the case. I'm going to try them. We need tough, yes, maybe even aggressive plants, to thrive here. 😏
This was so much fun. Thank you for having me.

I got a paper grocery bag full of seed heads from a neighbor. Im guessing "save til spring?"
@@f.demascio1857 exactly 👍 They germinate at 70-85 degrees. You can also start them indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Enjoy! 😊
@@f.demascio1857 also good to know is that you should barely cover seeds as light is required for germination.
"The editing and visuals are outstanding! Truly professional quality."
@@RuralLife1989 thank you 🙏🏼
Yes! They are beautiful. I'm growing them too for the first time this year. I found that they must have full sun and in our area regular water.
@@GreenGranny they do like full sun and regular water. Do you use them as a cut flower or just for fun in the landscape?
@fullcircleflorals9228 I have not used them as a cut flower, just tried them to see how they grew. That brilliant orangy red is awesome!
I love plums, especially the italian variety. Do you grow those?
@@GreenGranny I’m not really sure. Around here they call them “prune plums”. They are tasty 💕
Yes, this was helpful. Pinching and pruning will be my focus for next year.
@@GreenGranny I cannot stress enough how much it has made a difference in my plants and blooms. 💐
I do have a question. Should I remove the peatmoss/bagged soil and put back native soil. I've been growing in it 3 yrs but this year the corn grew terribly short and unhealthy. I want to change it back to a flower bed. I'm not sure if it's worth the effort to dig it out. I originally dug down about 2 feet and poured all that peatmoss crap in. Crazy, I know. I didn't know what I was doing😂
@@GreenGranny did you add these to a pot or raised bed or directly to the ground? If you added them right into the ground, leave what you have already added and add more compost/organic matter. The thing that happens with garden soil is that you get a flush of soil microbe activity when you add to it because they get busy breaking it down by consumption. Beneficials like worms convert the matter into readily available food that the roots of plants can access and use. Additionally try cover cropping to add much needed nutrients into your soil after heavy feeders such as corn are planted there. The cover crop choice will depend on what you have grown there, what you are wanting to grow there and your soils health. I know this is a long answer, haha, and may give you more questions thanks answers but feel free to ask for clarification and to give me specifics so I can help get you back to producing that yummy corn in abundance 🤩
@fullcircleflorals9228 I did put it directly in the ground. I'll just keep on growing, then and adding compost, wormcastings, and llama manure on top in the fall. I'm glad I don't need to dig it out. That would be a lot of work.
@@GreenGranny perfect! You can also add organic matter in the form of shopped leaves, grass clippings, chopped up garden trimming as long as they are diseased. It’s basic in place composting without heat. The smaller the pieces, the faster it breaks down. Two methods to explore are Hügelkultur and lasagna gardening. Both add organic matter to facilitate ongoing microbe and soils biological health.
Hey, I just found your channel! I'm so excited because I'm growing in the same dry heat and trying to learn how others succeed, plus I love ALL the flowers. I love what you're doing!
@@GreenGranny yay! So glad you’re here! It takes a village to raise a garden sometimes so it’s great to have folks collaborate to maximize their garden’s potential. 💕
1K views and no comments. Love the flowers and the wispy branches you added at the end were perfect.
