Taking flight with the newly recovered Viper jet. Smoothflite 16, IX12. Not the prettiest landing but she's down in one piece.

82% re-covering compelte. I got some flights in today and worked on landings. I'm not quite done with the recovering project, but I wanted to fly, not work!

Sweet!!
Thanks so much!
Awesome looking flight, love the smoke!
Thank you sir! That means so much coming from you!
I'm going to order one. What turbine are you running? Thanks Charles
Im running a Swiwin SW80B
Nice flying Richard.
Thank you so much, Vincent! 😄
JUST INCREDIBLE 😊
Thank you
Looks amazing! Have you had any issues with the retracts and brakes?
Yes, I replaced mine with JP gear/brakes.
Nice job covering! Bet those curves were not easy
Actually not as bad as I expected. Just takes some patience.
@@richardk302 nice, picked one up for my kiddo, we are going to strip it and glass it
@@BatworxAero That sounds like a great project. Keep her light!
Looks way better
Thanks!
good job. thinkng about it as my next project. Deos the kit come with a thrusttube ?
Yes it does.
can a common mortal without any license and training pilot a such big scale rc plane ?
Key phrase: (w/o any license and training)--> please no, it can be very dangerous to yourself and others!
I have to have one. Where did you order it from?

@@richardk302 That's not the same color kit
Oh,@@drmrjon so sorry, I misunderstood. No, this was the green color kit. I recovered it after a bad landing.
Outstanding job. Looks great
Thanks so much! @@drmrjon I think I have a video or 2 with just the base grey and yellow and no overlapping shapes.
How much travel are you running in flaps and aileron?
I've got my ailerons at 90% with 26% expo. Flaps are a 0 (up), -25% (1/2) and -100%(full)
@@richardk302 sorry I was looking for actual surface travels. Flaps might be 50mm?
@@jasonwade37 Gotcha, I've got takeoff at 1/2 @ 15mm and full @ 72mm
@@richardk302 awesome! Thanks
Is this monocote or vinyl? Did you layer over the original coating or peel it off? Great flying!
This is ultracote, I peeled off the original coating and then re-covered over the bare balsa after some light sanding. Thanks.
It looks great. I was thinking about just using automotive vinyl over the monocote but not sure it will stick enough. @@richardk302
@SFPFPV Thank you, I used carbon fiber wrap on a previous plane but only in small areas (wing walk) . I don't know if I'd trust it sticking well to balsa. I considered it but decided to go with what I know was made for this application.
I love the new color scheme! Im building one of these now with the Swiwin 80b. Is there anything I should address while in the building stage?
Not really, it was a fairly easy build, that's saying a lot being this was my 1st "full" build. Take your time, it's a well put together kit.
I would love to do this one day
It's soo much fun! Yes, you will love it!
Where do you fly and what is the best setup for a newbie wanting to get into this hobby. I am a USAF vet and have seen many types of aircrafts during my tenure
I fly at a field in the Orlando, FL area. I'll always recommend starting with a trainer aircraft and an instructor. Safety is always #1 priority. Getting certified to fly turbines is a great end-goal that started, for me, with an Apprentice!
@@richardk302 I live in the Maryland area and I will try to do that
@@jamesobleton6450 I hope you can find a club near you; www.modelaircraft.org/club-finder
Loving the recovering scheme, it reminds of the the Elite Sport jet scheme. Much better then the gray and green. I was hoping BH would could out with the different color scheme. It looks like a completely different plane. Did you remove the original covering? Wish I was able to work wrapping.
I did. A buddy and I peeled it down to the balsa, sanded it, and re-covered it with Ultracote.
@@richardk302Just one last question. Does this kit come with the moving surfaces already hinge and clued? Reason I ask I would prefer to fiberglass and paint and would be much easier to work on. Yes it would add more weight. Thanks again for all your replies
Well, no, they are not pre-hinged nor glued. You must do it. This kit is balsa wood. The manual is available for download: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1052/4162/files/BH181_Viper_Jet_Turbine_4-16-2022_Manual.pdf
I'm liking that fluorescent green and nice flying
Thanks, its actually "safety yellow" available at a store near you, :)
Nothing wrong with that landing at all.
Yeah, lol! I've been having an issue with the trim changing mid-flight on my nosewheel servo. I think I've about got it resolved.
Good job. I’be got a Hangar9 MB-339 with a K85 in it … when I get tired of this plane I’ll be looking for a sportier jet to put the K85 in ,,, this looks like a great candidate.
It is! This has been a very good level up from a strictly trainer jet. It doesn't have the "floatiness" of a trainer-type plane, you have to fly this plane. This has been a great step from my Falcon 120.
Nice, got one myself but still in box !
Great, it's a pretty straight-forward assembly and she flies very well!
Beautiful plane and great flying skills . Keep the vids coming. 👍👍
Thanks 👍
nice! CG and throws per instructions?
Yes on CG: Throws: yes on Aileron and Rudder, I wanted more elevator with expo to match for sensitivity. The book is usually a good place to start and then adjust for personal preference.
@@richardk302 thanks, already have 5 flights on mine, moved CG 2cm back, raised nose gear 4mm, lowered flaps x2, flies amazing. Happy flying
@@TomislavReskovic Good for you! Sorry for the delay. I added more flaps too! Happy landings!
Nice flying. Flies well on the 80. Are you using HI 5645 all the way around? Also are you using the stock fuel tank? If so that's good flight time.
Yes 5645 all around except for the nosewheel steering (5245MG) The book calls for mini servos so I had to cut to make these fit. Yes, I am using the stock tank and I could easily get 10 mins. I have my timer for 6 mins and I land with +40% fuel remaining.
@@richardk302 Thanks for the reply.
Nice !!! What lights are you using?
I'm using the ILS-03 Viper Jet Kit from Advanced Radio
@@richardk302 we need more videos
@@ps4kidgaming56 they are coming. I am finishing a re-covering job this week. 👍
Awesome 👏 👌 👍 🥰
