Concern over international migration and the need to vet foreigners over people migrating within borders is unequal treatment. Excuses include stemming criminals and particularly gangs and cartels from entering, however judging the whole of foriegners by the few who do so out of malice is generalizing the whole of international undocumented migrants as potential criminals, when the same discrimination isn't applied to internal undocumented migrants, who are seen as merely moving and aren't lumped in with internal criminal migrants. Rhetoric of job depletion and stolen welfare also proves inconsistent when realizing this. It can only logically cohere under a nationalist framework of undervaluing foreign lives, and prioritizing an in-groups interests over an out-groups necessity for basic livelyhood when fleeing destitute and often dangerous circumstances. It is also a refusal to engage with the causes of poverty that make staying untenable. The blame for this mass migration is never directed at the corporate empires that buy the permanant access, use, and profits from the ample natural resources of developing countries that are essentially siphoned into a ruling class of oil barons and oligarchs. Racism is a convenient scapegoat and identifier of oppressed populations in the global south, and functions to distract humans from the systemic process of incentives that their economic system spurs. And when outsider groups and unfamiliar minorities are typecast negatively and treated as a vicious monolith, they will be targeted and ostracized from improving their situation further, forcing some to take desperate measures that perpetuate the cyclical oppression.

To assume migrants are criminals is to group them as a uniform monolith where any amount of criminals within the group of migrants condemns the rest of them by their common trait (being a migrant) and the illusory nature of in groups and out groups divided along racial and national lines refuses to consider internal migrants of countries in the same way as external migrants. This same faulty bigoted rhetoric applies to the vilification of trans people from X amount of detransitioners or criminals, and no explanation is given to how their status as a trans person or migrant is relevant at all to why they deserve to be grouped in with detransitioners or criminals that relates to the trait they do share.

The nationalist identity functions as a tool of social cohesion that the ruling class can weaponize in times of economic hardship to redirect peoples' discontent to a convenient scapegoat. Whatever placeholder minority is targeted is done to obfuscate the nature of societal decline, and distract from any systemic faults that inherently incentivize corporate interests to exploit and monopolize resources that keep developing countries under the threat of halted production. The people unable to feasibly live in these destitute conditions seek better prospects abroad.
