Rotary Dial vs Flip Phone: Plastic Pots vs Fabric Pot: Other fabrics: vs Root Pouch fabrics

A good way to look at it is comparing a rotary dial phone to a iPhone you can call and speak to someone on either one but the iPhone has so many more functions. You would not expect to see anyone still using a rotary dial phone now? Now consider a fabric grow bag and a Root Pouch is like comparing a flip phone to an iPhone - that is truly a good comparison. Any fabric pot will produce a far hea...

    I planted an apple tree two days ago that came in a small charcoal colored fabric pot exactly like you show here. I planted the fabric pot in the ground assuming it was breathable and biodegradable. Did I make a mistake? Should I remove the bag and re-plant the tree or leave as is?

    Great video, thank you! I've tried small smartpots in AZ & they did well in the cooler months, but in the summer they dried out too fast. I only tried super small pots though. How do you think Root Pouch would hold up in our 118 degree temps & can it be used very long term, say for planting a small citrus tree? Thanks again!

    Thank you for sharing! Oaks are the keystones of ecosystems and biodiversity. Love the fabric and rootmaker pots. The trees really take off right after planting! So much better than the traditional plastic root bound pots (some even have girdling roots in those containers 😞).

    I have several of these bags in the 5, 7, 10 and 15 gal. The water does run out of the sides but not as bad as others I have. I water from the center (root ball area) and go out then in reverse. The best method I found was to water from the bottom in a plastic type container. I use an underbed long RubberMaid or Hefty brand plastic container, add water then place bags inside for at least two to three hours for the first time I use the bag. (Some gardeners say they wet the soil/mix as they add to the pot to help avoid the water going out the sides.) Once bottom water is absorbed it seems to help for the next waterings to soak more into the soil and not out the sides. But I'm no expert and barely a novice in planting. I'm happy if they survive thru summer. Try experimenting. All I can say is I really like these bags. I can fold down the sides if need be for shallow roots like strawberries etc. I'm growing Proven Winners Salvia "Rockin' Playin The Blues" in the 15gal and I think they have deep roots so it's loving this pot. It's ginormous! Me and the bees and hummers are loving the plant and plant is loving this pot! I'm hoping it'll turn into a perennial but not sure if PW seeds are sterile to only last one season. Time will tell. It's a nice video to explain and appreciate the time taken to do it. Thank you!

    It makes me cry. The very bottle he is holding is a clear plastic bottle that can be recycled into new clear plastic bottles, millions of times. He hasn't recycled anything, he has only made sure it DOES end up in a landfill now. People, stop believing the lie about recycling. That bottle is now taken from the plastic feedstock. Plastic bottle companies would love to recycle that very bottle into a new bottle, because it saves them money over new plastic.

    *QUESTION:* _what about placing the AIR-POT inside a slightly larger fabric bag?_ *What are the advantages & disadvantages??*

    • @timothydobson4657
      @timothydobson4657 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is what I was thinking. Perhaps, the air zone may be too humid to dry the root ends, or it just may be the right thermal moderator and hybrid solution. Thinking of asphalt layer with flexibility and grip over a concrete pave base with structure and no flexibility - they are better as a hybrid vs. as individual systems. Note when new concrete highway installed, the line grooves sawed into the concrete. Concrete needs about a year to cure well and is too slippery to drive on when wet / snow. The grooves act as mechanical bond gap for the future asphalt layer topping. I think the fabric and air-pot corrugation format might work well together. Aesthetically, if used for long term planting, a decorative solid planter / container with generous side air space could keep the air factor balanced - though likely get more humid. Try it out.

    Is there a micro plastic issue as it degrades in the soil?

    • @rootpouch2633
      @rootpouch2633 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Alex, Thank you for your question! Since we are still made of plastic yes, once the container degrades there will be micro-plastics left behind. That is why we always recommend removing the container before you plant permanently in the ground.

They a bi**h to transplant, water and deal with overall. I'm going back to Plastic. I'm done with the fabric bs.
