Follow us on our journey as we enter the world of bicycle touring with some hiking on the side
Meizhou - The Hakka Capital of China
Meizhou is known as the Hakka capital of China. The Hakka people fled from the northern parts of China to get away from the wars (a very long time ago).
Today, a large percentage of Hakka people live outside of China, extending as far as South America. They have a very distinct building style (half moon shaped settlements), to protect themselves from invaders, with a pond outside to put out potential fires.
We were fortunate enough to visit Nankou Hakka Town outside of Meizhou, but you can see the half moon shaped buildings all over Meizhou city as well.
In addition to that we visited:
Hakka Museum
Hakka Opera
TheThousand Buddha’s Tower
We also got to experience Chinese hospitality when our hosts friend invited us to his restaurant and everything was on the house.

Novice cyclist is Ingrid and Ross. We’re a couple that decided we wanted to get into bike touring as a means of seeing the world. We believe that traveling slowly is an excellent way to explore the hidden aspects of a culture or country that would otherwise be inaccessible.
Follow us on our adventure as we share our experiences and provide guidance to beginner cyclists. Getting into cycle touring can be challenging and frustrating; we here to try make the process a little easier.
