I never throw them away, have been putting them in ammo boxes with stuff in them since the 80s. I used to get big ones from engine shipping containers and electronics components. I use lots of aircraft sealants at work. A lot of the pre measured tubes have at least one 1.5" × 2" pack in them. I am always saving them for re use. I do not use my "salvaged/repurposed" ones for food, but they are handy for so many things. Put a couple of them in a large Ziploc bag with important papers, and never have to worry about them getting ruined. I live in Florida, and it is very humid. I've had a roof collapse under volcanic ash & house flood twice while stationed overseas. None of the documents I had stored in large Zoploc bags with a few of the larger dessicant pacs never got damaged. I still have copies of orders & tax returns from 1983. You can buy those in food grade on Amazon, along with "oxygen absorbers" which I combine with a couple food grade dessicants for food storage.
