Exploring Crazy Abandoned Mental Asylum

We had just climbed mount Snowdon the day before on a very cold and windy winter day and This was day three of the trip to Wales. It was by far one of the craziest places i've ever been to. The footage doesnt do the place justice and we certainly missed a fair bit of the place as we were a bit sketchy, also one of us didn't come in so was staying by the car, which was a shame. I use the handlebar bag, it's great. Sometimes i roll it up and put it away and it's airtight, never got anything wet in there. I keep my campsite stuff and clothes in there so i just take it off once i get to camp. You can attach some sandals to the bungee. I also like it because i can use it on flat bars or roll it down for drops

    though the original rims looked great, and they will be much lighter/less sluggish than the new ones too, could have saved a lot by installing a single speed conversion kit on the old rear wheel rather than buying new ones. can also recommend rubber track grips rather than short tape, they are really quick to take off as opposed to bar tape and they last much longer than tape. happy riding

    thanks for the review! i have the top tube I bought used and the attachment to the handlebar is damaged, I suppose it is not of very good quality, anyway I bought it like that and I don't know what use they gave it. I'm thinking about buying the handlebar bag, I think it's too big and I don't know how good the straps will be and if they will hold up

    I’m enjoying the bike so far th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

    For Your Information Folks.......I own the XL size. I can put my Thermarest NeoAir Xtherm Max regular wide inside the Hunka XL with my winter bag on top......I am 5 foot nine and just have enough room to turn body inside the bag. Just as the hunka almosy touches my legs on the inside. Im sure much fewer people use the wide sleep pad as I do and most go for regular widths which will allow for the Hunka bag to rise up more over the top and sides. I slept out in it when we had the snow (about 3 days ago) it went down to around 0 degrees.....slept with tarp over top and was amazed how little misting there was on the inside of the Bivvi bag. I wouldn't even call it condensation....twas an incredibly light misting film on the inside. These are brilliant value for money these bivvi bags. If your sleeping with mat under bag then the regular hunka size is fine if you want to put mat inside the bag....I'de definatley get the XL. That Osprey may have had regiment lads in it ......I know the reg in Hereford has got one now. Fun stuff. fun video mate.

      Hi Marshall, I'm pretty much the same height! I sleep and fit comfortably (width and height) in the regular, so that should be fine, although it's worth considering the size of your gear as I said in the video.

    Why to make a bicycle to single speed?What about uphills and max speed at single speed?is that not a disadvantage?

    • @LukeMaulkerson
      @LukeMaulkerson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, definitely a disadvantage with the hills! In this case, it was a lot cheaper to make it single speed and they're just good fun to ride.

    Just found you on my feed. My Hunka XL is about 6 years old now and it's brilliant, I use mine as a bivvy or in the winter as an extra for my bag inside a tent. Recently bought the hooped Elan which I am still working out if I like or not. The Hunka is great in wet weather and mine being the XL copes well with condensation and a bonus of being not too bad at stopping heat loss downwards. I also use mine with a DD Superlight for bikepacking with a couple of carbon poles which reduces weight and bulk but still gives me a good sized shelter. Just goes to show there's some good affordable kit out there.

      That's great! Yeah I really trust Alpkit products, the quality and value is great.

  • @robertphillips93
    @robertphillips93 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Longtime fan of bivys -- even when they were only two rectangles of ripstop sewn together on 3 sides. The Hunka xl currently is an important part of my sleep system. As you say, along with a tarp in wet weather, they are very good protection (with a head net for bugs if needed). Once got caught out in some unexpected snow at high elevation with a thin foam mattress and so-so down bag in a bivy -- and didn't find out until morning what had happened at camp!

    Why is the green one heavier than blue/red? Are you sure?

    • @LukeMaulkerson
      @LukeMaulkerson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was confused by this too, all the details are on the Alpkit website and i did a some researching on blog posts and other reviews, the green one is slightly heavier for some reason! Worth it in my opinion, the other colours are nice but wouldn't help with the stealth side of things.

    • @LukeMaulkerson
      @LukeMaulkerson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can say I've not experienced enough condensation to notice it on my sleeping bag, but i have on the inside of the bivvy itself, although only minor. Obviously there's going to be a few variables which could cause condensation levels ect but I've been pretty clear! Cheers 👍
