The walls were damage by the water?
The walls actually had no damage.
Thanks for the video! we bought a new camper, the same year due to work it sat a season without use on a permanent spot at the campground. Came back to both slide outs floors with water damage. The dealership quoted us 14k to fix it. We paid 27k for the whole camper... . I am gonna attempt this. 🤞

I need to replace a cracked hot water Atwood 6 gal tank. Im told they no longer make them and the new one is larger?!!! Therefore i need to put on a new door which wo t match my paint? Also, I may need to cut my rv inorder for it to fit?!!! Looks exactly like urs. Where did u get ur tank? UPDATE: I ended up purchasing a NEW tank. Suburban. Ordered online. Was able to use ORIGINAL DOOR!! Insulation doesn't appear to be as nice, but it fits and was easy to install. The propane switch is now located inside the hot water tank door on outside of rig instead of inside wall of rig. But that's okay!

Great work dude! To keep water out of the wood use butyl tape behind all trim/transition pieced and sealant over all seams. Most manufacturers and owners rely solely on sealant. However I've never had water damage after adding butyl tape. Butyl is available in many widths and thickness levels to meet all your needs. Butyl keeps water from following the thread of screws into the wood as well as a second barrier against water when sealant fails due to travel or weather related expansion. I've had water damage on a brand new unit because it was not properly sealed. Had the manufacturer used butyl tape behind the trim/transition pieces there would have never been any water damage. Butyl should be applied when the temps are in 70s. Warm weather allows butyl to be soft enough to create a tight seal when screwed on trim fits flush. Hot weather could result in too much butyl squeezing out. Cold weather makes butyl too firm to get the trim flush. However one can come back on a warm day to push and screw the trim flush before applying sealant.

Why didnt you go for tankless heater instead ?
I wanted to keep the same version, I didn't want to change anything that could create more issues that I didn't know about it.
There should really be a class action suit against RV manufacturers….. literally every RV owner deals with this
You are right. Every single RV has the same issue after only a few years on the road.
A lot of this is maintenance though. You need to keep on the seals and always be watching for pin holes.
How did you attach the 2 new pieces of plywood to the center piece ? This is my issue in my 12' slide 😢
I first attached it to the rest of the areas, meaning the walls, and used pocket hole screws to join the two plywood pieces. I'll upload a new video soon where I filmed better this process.
Why couldn't you just weld it up?
I don't have the tools nor the skills to weld it.

Hi! Replacing only a portion didn't affect at all the sliding function.

Always always always get a professional pre-purchase inspection done on any used camper before buying it. These types of situations happen far too often and a pre-purchased inspection, well expensive, can save you many thousands of dollars and a lot of heartache.

Did you install the white board back over the new wood under the slide out or did you cover it with something else?
Hi! The white board was in bad condition so I cover it with an elastomeric coating that I used for the roof as well!

Hi! I just included in the video description a link for you to find it easily. It's called Elastomeric Roof Coating. Yes, I applied right over the plywood before attaching it to the original part that wasn't damaged. As you can see in the video minute 2:28 It's painted already.

Enjoy your videos. Harbor Freight is not the best place to find high quality, long lasting tools that get a lot of use. I am a journeyman tool and die maker and most of us spend money on tools that will last 30 years and more. We use Harbor Freight for the tools that get used a few times a year and can be disposable. I use the better stuff at home too. Good tools are worth the investment if you have the $ especially if you're using them to make money. Poorly made tools can make an enjoyable project a miserable undertaking. You know a whole lot more about trailers than I do. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!
You are right, I learned that the hard way. Still make those mistakes a little bit but not too often now 😁! Every time I'm getting better quality tools but that's expensive. Sometimes for a certain project, I need to buy something cheap to be able to do the job and I regret it later 🤦🏻♂️. Yes, It's terrible when you pull the carpet out and find that your slide-out has water damage, But I'm making a video of how I fix it! It will be out by Sunday!
