Step by step start to finish. Helpful hints gleaned from some of the other great You Tube videos on this subject.
Where did you get the foam piece in the back?
@@jamesholland9096 From the back of the police interceptor at the salvage yard
what a great video. looks awesome. how much to come do mine? haha
Why did you have to cut those 2 prices with a sawzall?
My mechanism was frozen into the I bolt. If I remember correctly I could have wiggled a wrench in to unbolt it but thought the sawzall was faster
Excellent video! Never knew there was a test circuit. My rear defrost doesn’t work anyway. 14 gauge wire to extend where you needed to?
What the red light under your steering wheel? Asking because I have the same thing and idk what it is.
It's part of an aftermarket alarm/security system installed by a previous owner. I searched online years ago to figure out how to turn it off but can't remember how I did it.
so that rear crossmember is a must do?
I read a post of someone who drove briefly without it and said it did not handle well or feel right. I also read that the vehicle would not be as structurally safe in the event of a collision. I was lucky enough to find one at a junkyard a couple hours away, but sourcing one was the hardest part of this project.
Nope, I ordered the crossmember but drove around the block before I installed it, massive difference without. You can literally feel the rear end twisting around corners it's no good. I've been considering fabbing my own version that's even beefier with a couple more anchor points that extend to the rear d pillars.
Also ford's rear end collision rating is bases on those seats or the brace being in so if you were to get rear ended it would be way worse.
Holy mother of Jesus, I had no idea removing the seats would be so involved.. Just bought a 2015 and was thinking about removing mine, which I'll never use, just to save some weight back there.. Figured it would be as simple as unplugging a wire harness, removing 4-6 bolts, and they'd lift out. Your video makes it clear that the procedure is waaaaay over my head. Instead I'll just fold them down ... forever) and cover with a Weather Tech mat. Thanks for letting us know just how involved this is...
welcome to the life of an autobody tech 😂😂
How much weight for 2rd seat and 3rd seat? Because i dont need it any more and thinking to remove it
what the hell.. over 3+ minutes of commercials? Not cool...
Unfortunately I have no control over the commercials. If it makes you feel any better, know that I’m not getting anything for them 🤨
Thanks Todd, appreciate the help
My 2017 explorer has power 3rd row seats, the left seat is out of alignment and won't fold into position either way. Will the dealer have to do all this removal of trim to fix?
Not sure…This was basically why I decided to remove mine permanently.
@@toddslusser8380 What year is your explorer ?
@@robertmulligan5797 2012
The passenger seat in my wife’s quit working after she was rear ended. It’s stuck in the upright position and wanted to fix it myself because there’s no telling how much the dealer will charge.
I am looking to do the reverse you did on a friends car. Do you by a chance still have all the parts you removed and where are you located about? Maybe we can work something out.
Sorry they are no more. Wouldn’t have been much good as the motor was seized and I ended up cutting through the main shaft to get them out. Also I bled a little on one part 🫤
Where are you located in want to remove mine..maybe we can switch..
Wait…umm…how do I get the seats out after taking the two bolts out? I don’t work on things like this, typically…I feel like I missed something.
Mine had malfunctioned and was stuck to the u bolt in the floor so I ended up cutting through the main support pipe with a sawzall as well as cutting through the u bolt to wrestle the seats out. I think it would be possible to lift and wiggle the seats out intact if they have not malfunctioned
Thank you so much for making this niche video. -2 ?’s if you have the time… Do I have to disconnect the battery if I don’t have electronic seats, though? I do have power windows…but unsure/unfamiliar with what else might be back there. Also…once I’ve flattened the seat, flipping the lever again doesn’t tip mine up…not sure if that will be an issue beyond the tight working area. Should it or is that only on models with electric seats/higher package? 2016 4x4 Explorer. Thanks again!
Wonderful video. Ingenious use of the test wire to the back. I never would have thought if that. Thank you sir!!!
This video was helpful! I have the same issue with a stuck lower latch on the left seat. I would like to replace the latch. You think there is a way to remove the seat without cutting the U-bolt on the latch? Or do you know if the U-bolt is replacable if i do cut it?
The u-bolt is bolted to the floor. It could be replaced if you cut it or you may be able to slide a wrench in and unbolt it. I still have the u bracket I removed from the driver’s side.
Can you replace the seats with manual seats once you take the power ones out?
If the manual seats have the same anchor points they should work. You would just have to tuck the wires that used to go to the seat motors behind the side panels as I did.
Thank you!
Never realized that removing this seat would be this involved!😮
It turns out my 7-pin hitch doesn't have power. It was easy enough to route over to the left tail light assembly and grab the power there. Now I hear that there may be a missing relay for the trailer power. Off to go check! Great video!
Just wanted to say i followed this and it worked! Have a 2012 fe and pretty much same as this except had to remove some bottom attachments that were sort of like rat traps (watch the hands!) and the electronics clips were a little different (speakers towards the front)…thanks for posting, now ive got more room for car camping….they definitely make it pretty difficult to do this and im not sure why (maybe they dont want you to make it more lightweight because of rollover?)
really thankful someone made a video on this, it has been a daunting task since im stripping half the interior of my 2015 Explorer so thank you
Where do you put your spare tire?
It’s a small one and stays where it was
thanks for the video.. I was looking to find which wire from the diagnostic port could be used as a spare wire to hook up my tach. Doing a subaru engine swap in a 74 bus. thank you. Blue/white wire!
Not everyone has an aftermarket 8 pin accessory. I was looking for wiring for the taillight harness under the bump[er
Thank you Bro!!
This was great bro thank you im 15 just tryna learn this thank you again💯
Where did you get the bezel that you screwed in front of the head unit? I have a different version that is a 6.2in unit
I got it online from a company called Metra
you made that look really easy. Im having trouble with the wholes in the rubber too but they are more like slots on the part I got, Brazilian I think.
That was a great video
Did you have to trim the dash surround at all?
Yes
Okay so where you hooked up the power wire to the trailer harness if you would have just spliced into the middle wire which is the black-and-white grain that is your actual reverse wire for your trailer light harness
what deck is this??
Pioneer. Model number is shown at 13:00 minutes in the video.
Great vid, thanks. Only thing I might add that you didn’t mention is to clock your CV Joints so they will articulate properly. Small point one end wide flange on the other
Another thing that would have been easier, you could have spliced into the back up light for the power, that way it triggers the camera to come on when you put the truck in reverse, wouldn’t have needed the relay and extra wiring
Yes, you are right. One advantage with the way I did it is that I can turn the camera on anytime. I don’t do that very often though!
Always solder your connections
Great video - thanks for the effort to do
Hi Todd in the process of changing my CV joints all bolts removed and the wheel end drops off but at the gearbox end the CV joint won't budge - what's your thoughts as I'm scratching my head at the moment. Don't want to cause any damage by hitting hit to free it
Hi Peter. I would double check that you haven’t missed a bolt and if it were me I would tap it and it should fall off. Your call of course. Good luck!
I need to rotate the camera phone to horizontal next time...sorry for things being off screen sometimes. I could see everything on the phone screen when I recorded it!
Thanks for sharing your fitting guide with us as it will come in very handy for when I fit mine too. The only other non related question I was wanting to ask you was that you have a dash switch without and emblem to say what the switch is for below your tachometer and I have one exactly the same and haven't found out what it's for. I was hoping you could shed light on what yours is used for ? Thanks
I think it is for interior lighting in the back originally. The wiring had been removed by a previous owner on mine. Good luck!
Nicely done sir 🤙
Thank you for sharing. Gasoline leaks a lot at the bottom of my bus when I fill it till pump clicks. So I just put 3/4 of fuel capacity. Now I will go check if there are cracks near the top of fuel neck. New sub here. 😊
inside the engine bay waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up there behind the spare tire area is a small vent line with about three inches of hose. I've never bought a bus that didnt need that vent line replaced and it spills like you mention. The vent lines on top of the gas tank could also leak.
Please slow down the camera movements next time.
Be nice to see what you're cutting but I got this.
Thanks for the video. I have to say the. most important part for me is around 9:17 where you show where the back up light power wire is. This is used for the back up camera function. What a time saver! Just this little tip alone saved me hours of research! Thanks again!
Funny that the part of cutting the opening to size portion of the video might as well have just been audio. Worthless.
You're a professional installer, we will be at SEMA please check us out.
thanks, better to replace before seeing a burning kombi
i failed installing a similar head unit and license plate backup camera. this is encouraging and will manage to attempt again to see if I can get it work.
My stereo has 3 color wires the factory doesn't have a brown , blue , and pink one should i leave those out?
all videos I've seen on this topic cut out the part I need, which is wiring from back to stereo..
Just buy yourself an adapter cable. Mine cost me about $8. Then attach that to the harness that came with your stereo. Just match up the colors of each wire. Then all you do is plug one end in the connector that your old stereo plugged into in the truck and the other end to the new stereo. You will have to run a separate wire from the back up light power (9:17 in the video) to the stereo. Pretty easy.
@@ArVeeNiner Ive been looking but cant find one that I'm certain would work. Would you be able to help me find one?
