Copper Bracelet
มุมมอง 2522 ปีที่แล้ว
How to make a copper cuff bracelet with a rolling mill and a hydraulic press. The rolling mill is used with a plate to press a design on the copper, and a Bonny Doon press is used to shape the synclastic bracelet. By the way, when I get over100 subscribers, I can tell people the actual name of my youtube channel, instead of the long string of letters I have to use now. So please subscribe. Also...
How to make Niobium Earrings

This video is about working with Niobium, a reactive metal that is completely hypoallergenic and reacts to electricity by forming colorful oxides on the surface.
Air Power for Hydraulic Press
มุมมอง 1893 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is about replacing the manual bottle jack that came with my Bonny Doon Hydraulic Press with an air-powered jack from Harbor Freight. The electric jack from Rio Grande costs $2600, and the jack and compressor from Harbor Freight combined is under $300. The conversion saves a lot of arm power, as you will see in the video.
Ventilate Your Jewelry Workshop
มุมมอง 463 ปีที่แล้ว
This video describes a way to ventilate your craft jewelry workshop without spending a lot of money. There are so many chemical fumes created by soldering, pickling, using a kiln, and making a patina. Even buffing creates particles in the air that are bad for your lungs. So get the lead out!
Bracelet Dies in Hydraulic Press
มุมมอง 3793 ปีที่แล้ว
The question was, would the bracelet forming dies I already had from Seattle Findings fit in the magnetic holder available from Bonny Doon tools for their hydraulic press from Rio Grande Jewelry Supplies. It turns out that they were. I could cut down the round bar that holds the folder, but it works fine at an angle, and still fits in the vise with both bolts in the bar for finishing work.
Motorizing Your Rolling Mill
มุมมอง 3.8K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a video about putting a motor on your rolling mill. I wasn't able to roll pattern sheets on my cheap India mill, and got a used Grobet mill on ebay. It had a one-to-one gear ratio and was too hard to push. I was going to buy a motorized Durston or Pepe, but got the idea that a dc motor with gear reduction might power my mill. It does, and I saved $2300.

I know there are some precision molding companies that still use this technique today to mass produce parts. I know that the manufacturing of some gun and lock parts use this technique.

I've seen a lot of larger scale casting projects, so this is the first time seeing a centrifuge used to inject the metal. Very interesting method! I'm curious, does the metal ever splash out of the centrifuge on occasion, or is it a perfect system? Also, how big can a casting be before it becomes too large to use the centrifuge this way?

Like the video 👌. Never seen such a centrifuge though, what are the benefits compared to just pouring?

Hi Dana I have been making jewelry since 1974. I made pens to get into the better art shows and craft fairs because jewelry is so competitive in the application process.

Somehow I ended up buying the exact same motor/gearbox and ratio for my rolling mill. It was an ebay purchase and came with a 2hp Dayton dc drive. It worked well for wire and narrow stock, 3/8" wide was the max it could handle with light reduction. If I was only doing rings and other small jobs it would have been satisfactory. It wouldn't handle ingots for making sheet. I ended up with a helical drive gearbox and larger dc motor. According to pepe rolling mills they don't recommend more than 2250 in-lbs from a power drive so my combination was just over that. It was an unusual helical drive gearbox and normally very expensive so not worth including here. The important number is the output torque of it. A 1 1/2hp motor and 60:1 right angle worm drive gearbox is the cheapest option and about the minumum to get a rolling mill capable of rolling sheet. A cheap VFD for speed control would be needed. I just added this here in case others are considering what you've done and they need a bit more power. Its more expensive but can still be done for under $600, much less if you shop around.

have you considered a archemedies screw/worm drive? u get the best torque on electric motors with Archimedes screw's thats why electric drills windscreen wipers ext run them all these builds ive found sofar(been researching before i build my own, (i live in suburbia a hammer press is out of question ) seem to use a gearbox like its a combustion engine, but you get best torque off archemedies screw with electric engine, main issue with archemedies screw is turning it fast enough to be practicable which isnt hard on a electric motor
