Oh this was so encouraging! My fiance' and I met online this past July (21) and got engaged this past December. We had originally planned for a big October wedding this year (22) .Unfortunately we live 1,500 miles apart which due to work and the economic state right now , has made being together really difficult. So here recently we decided to go ahead and have a legal ceremony this April with just the pastor and 2 whitnesses. Then in October still do everything the same as if it were the first time( bridesmaids/ Groomsmen, first look and father daughter walk down the aisle...) 😊 The only difference is we are calling our ceremony a vow renewal and instead of saying "I do" it will be " I still do" . For us we decided that we wanted to save the putting on of our wedding bands for our October wedding. So for our legal ceremony my fiance' is just going to re put on my engagement ring and I'll put just a silicone ring on him. We are even saving our personal vows for our October wedding. 🥰 All this being said, to me our reasons seem like legitimate understandable reasons to go ahead and just get legally married then celebrate later with friends and family. However I have found that not everyone is as understanding or on board as I would have thought. My immediate family being some of my hardest critics. 🤦🏼‍♀️ But here is what I have come to realize.......... 1) it is mine and my fiance' wedding we shouldn't plan our special day around what others would like. If they are our true friends they will support us and come in October .😊 2.) A wedding is a special day to celebrate the union of the bride and groom...To me this means already legally married or not. In some weddings the guests don't even whitness the actual signing of the legal papers. 3.) Most of the things that happen in weddings are traditional....Traditions are always changing. A wedding in 1950 was different from a wedding in 1990....and there is no denying the wedding world has changed over the past 32 years as well. We live in a post pandemic crazy world, things that were once considered unthinkable or tabu just 2 years ago are now acceptable and necessary. 😊 I say all this to say, if you are like me and have or are struggling with the thought of upsetting people, worrying whether your guests will come, or if your "original date / big wedding" will still be just as special. Give yourself a break and do what you and your fiance' want, its your day!! People who don't agree will get over it, some may come and some may choose not to. In the end it will still be a dream day and who knows, 3 years from now people will probably forget that you were already married when you had your " big orginal Wedding celebration " 😊

Hi Jess, I am in a little bit of different situation. I got married in China in late 2018. It was more for gatherings for families and friends in China. Since alot of our close friends are in the US , I was going to host a wedding in the US to celebrate followed by my wedding in China but couldn’t afford it then and then the pandemic happened. I still want to have a destination wedding with our close friends that couldn’t make it to our wedding in China in 2 yrs. Can I still have this as a regular wedding or would it be too weird since it would technically put us out for our 5 yrs anniversary in 2 yrs? And can I still have a registry etc?

Are you still going to have a bridal shower or wedding showers. However you may word it????

I’m actually doing just this! Thanks for the words of encouragement! I was questioning if we should even do this. We got married very quickly due to delta variant and other issues that quickly arised. We are actually calling it a Vow Renewal and Celebration of marriage. We are pretty much doing a whole other wedding. But instead of a typical ceremony it’s a vow renewal ceremony and I’ll be in my wedding dress.
