After this passed through, some people came through the crossing, who asked me, “was that a special DIESEL train?” Bear in mind these were adults, not kids. I don’t like it when people confuse the spam cams for diesels. They are far more beautiful the any diesel locomotive in this country.

I believe I filmed this after the GWSR gala in 2019. I wish she was still running, she’s easily Didcots flagship engine, (apart from 2999 and 4079)!

She was seen here returning for the Swanage Railway Diesel Gala, heading to Barrow Hill Roundhouse to drop of the 20s. 50021 ‘Rodney’ was due to be on the back, but I believed it was detached at Eastleigh. She’s not due to do anymore mainline tours until the 1st of June, so she’s got a bit of a break!

Been a while since I received a comments on this video! Sheffield park is easily the best Terminus (I guess) station in England. The 4MT wasn’t due to be running, and I’d travelled 4 hours from Oxfordshire, excepting to film Wightwick Hall for the day. Pity she failed that morning, but I do love a 4MT. Camelot and Fenchurch were also running on that day, which made it even better. Even though it was July, we got hale later in the day when I went to the Spa Valley Line to see there 33, which funnily enough had also failed 😂. Not the best day for heritage railways in the south-east!

Oh, I forgot about the Branch line Gala. I wasn’t planning on going to it, as it’s mostly western locos running (I’m not a massive great western fan), but I’ll happily still watch the video! I’ve seen the Epping and Ongar video. If I had known Leander was visiting, I would have definitely gone. Me and her don’t have the best relationship, but she is still my favourite LMS jubilee!

This shot was filmed at Toddington at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway! They own of a mixture of Western Stock, as well as a BR 4MT and this Merchant Navy Class. I believe it’s the 4th Merchant Navy to steam in preservation!

Cheers! Yeah the noise was incredible. No it’s not the best way to treat a loco like that, but she’s only scheduled to be pulling two tours this year, so I guess it’s alright in the end. Glad you enjoyed the video!

I agree, she needs to be driven with respect these days. However if you were to listen to some of my recordings from the 70s, you'd soon realise they were driven very hard in BE days. Often full power standing starts....

@@delticolWere they heavy trains? I recall it quite often happened on the light trains in Cornwall if adhesion was good enough, like on 6 coaches. Also one light 7 car train leaving Dawlish. I personally never heard it on anything heavier. The thing I'm going on is early in their lives BR had the German designers over to discuss some problems and they reckoned these locos were being opened up too quick. I think they recomended full power somewhere between 25-40mph. Incidently, are your recordings on YT?

I have just started watching these train videos..because I got totally fed up with the muck and drivel in TH-cam. They are brilliant and what a great community of people.

@clivedytor2069 The railway community on a whole is I think very welcoming on a whole. Even though we all share similar interests, we can express that interest in many different ways. For example, there is content like this video, aimed at enthusiasts or people that like trains, and then there’s people like Francis Bourgeois creating content that would appeal to anyone! I’m glad I started TH-cam, because if not, I never would have been able to speak to and connect with so May awesome people, who won’t judge me for my hobby’s!

That’s what I thought originally. I’ll need to investigate that. Maybe it’s not se weird after all!

@TrainGuy_2008 Yep, 8 years. This is my first time ever even seeing a 52 running, so it’s definitely one of the memories. If you’re looking for ultimate thrash, my other shot from Heyford is worth a watch!

@@TrainGuy_2008 Awesome, let’s hope both the SVRs westerns run. About the video, Western Champion gets a red signal at Heyford, so the driver (Tony Middleton) absolutely went for it. Easily some of the best thrash I’ve ever heard. No tones sadly but some mega thrash!

Thanks! It was interesting to see the DVT cab out in the yard without even a 68 attached. It’s just occurred to me that Chiltern to my knowledge don’t own any form of shunter, so they’d have to use a fuel hungry class 68 to transport carriages and stock around, which just isn’t fuel efficient at all.

@@SouthernRailSpotter no problem! Yeah definitely was! Well I guess at least then, the drivers that run the 68s on the mainline can also do the shunting if/when needed, saving them money by not having designated shunters and designated shunter locos.

Hi! Yes I am aware it is an American Railway. I planned to use the English “southern railway” logo, but there isn’t one amazingly. I am planning to replace it in May to something I’ve created, but it will have to stick here for now. You are actually the first person to notice the logo and I’m glad someone finally has!

Of course! Heyford is my local as well! The website is called RailAdvent.com and as well as covering railtours, it cover all the news in the railway circuit! Once you’ve found the tours, there will be a like listed to a website called RealTimeTrains. They show a live broadcast of all the trains running in Britain, and give live journey information. I’ll attach links below; I believe the next tour coming through is on April 14th with a BR class 52 Western!

I’ll be honest, I’m definitely more of a steam than a diesel fan, so there are many tours I’d put above this one for multiple reasons. 1. The shot wasn’t great and 2. The locos were a bit of a downgrade from the ones expected (a pair of class 37s). I’ve ridden on a 142 before on the Mid-Norfolk Railway. They’re………alright. I’d prefer a TFW 150 I’ll be honest, but I don’t think the pacers deserve all the criticism that they get (apart from the bench interior layout. Speaking of the pacer debate, why do they get all this criticism? Up until 2017, Chiltern were regularly running a set of class 121 bubble cars between Marylebone and Aylesbury Vale Parkway. I think they’re far worse than pacers, yet they’re not given the same criticism. Enthusiasts these days am I right!

@@SouthernRailSpotter fair enough, steam is a lot more impressive in terms of how they work etc but I still prefer diesel, no hate towards steam though, I'd never turn one down! I think the shot was great, I can't deny that the 67 is a huge downgrade to the double 37s though... Yeah, it was a Pacer tour and I believe the only tour that unit has been on so far unfortunately, I hope it gets out again soon but not heard anything about it - that's mainly why I liked it so much! I'm not sure about the whole Pacer hate.. I personally think they're great little units, yes they have their downsides but so does every train - no clue why people emphasize the Pacers faults so much! I've never seen nor ridden a 121 so I can't really contribute anything to what you've said there... 🤣 Haha yeah - we don't make sense at the best of times!

@TrainGuy_2008 I’d say that most of the BR series 1 DMUs aren’t great. Like many I’m not a fan of 2+3 seats on trains and the Bench seating on these DMUs make it a whole lot worse. Some pacers have the same seat layout and they’re apparently not to bad. Unlike the S1 DMUs however, I really don’t like the pacers screeching around curves; I have very sensitive hearing. All in all, I like the pacers and I don’t think they deserve the criticism they’re give by steam enthusiasts.

@@SouthernRailSpotter ah right, no clue why the Pacers get so much hate when I feel as though those 121s and other units like them should be getting equally as much hate in terms for seating and things like that.... I love the Pacers, I really wish I could have seen them while they were in public service but I've seen one on a tour and one at a heritage railway so that's better than none! 🙂 (Sorry if I've missed something you said, I'm falling asleep as I type haha!)
