    I'd definitely say this is closer in tone to Dune, compared to what we eventually got in Star Wars, I'm definitely glad that Lucas decided to revise and re-write, because *this* would never have become a franchise, merely a B Movie which the actors involved, would've likely felt like Chris Lemmon feels about Thunder in Paradise... 🙈🙈🙈🙈 But, that the cantina music goes back to playing after the lightsaber action, that's just gold 👍👍👍👍

    • @danestudios405
      @danestudios405 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this version of the story defnitely has more of the sci-fi epic feel akin to Dune or Flash Gordon (which of course inspired the film) - but there's so much going on it's easy to lose the plot. Glad we got the version we did and glad a lot of these ideas worked their way into the larger story of the Saga at some point.

    • @TimParker-Chambers
      @TimParker-Chambers ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danestudios405 I do vaguely remember watching some of the Flash Gordon episodes as a child (I think Buster Crabbe portrayed Flash?) but my only true memory of it, is of a rocketship with what was clearly a sparkler providing the engine effect, so I'm only assuming that I watched more than one episode, so I'm more familiar with the Flash Gordon movie, with Sam Jones, Timothy Dalton, and Peter Wyngarde, and the cartoon Defenders of the Earth (I actually named one of my written characters, a Trill, Jedda Tobin, after Jedda Walker...) But I've read the Original Dune novel, as well as the one (I forget the title) which showed the beginning of the Butlerian Jihad, featuring Vorian Atreides and his friend, Xavier Harkonnen, and I've seen David Lynch's Dune and the Dune mini-series with Alec Newman as Paul, but not the most recent movie (because I don't want to see Jason Momoa being Jason Momoa, rather than someone portraying Duncan Idaho... 🙈🙈🙈🙈) I'd say The Star Wars definite has that epic, sci-fi opera feel, and I think, with the right cast, and the right director, (as well as a ghost-writer to revise the script (my choice would be Alan Dean Foster) I think this could make for a servicable film. You're absolutely right that it's easy to lose the plot, and I think that seeing those shifts in scenes with the visuals, would definitely 'smooth out' those transitions and eliminate that 'getting lost' feeling. That being said, I *do* think you guys did as good a job as possible, with the material itself, and the weaknesses aren't down to yourselves as voice-actors, but the inherent weakness of George Lucas' writing ability. Now, don't get me wrong, American Graffiti and THX 1138, I think are masterpieces, which showed Lucas at his Best. Star Wars, while I can understand why it was popular on release, I don't think was necessarily Lucas at his Best, when compared to those other films. I would have to say that Lucas is a writer who had the 'creative fuel' for some good stories in him (Graffiti, THX, Star Wars) but once he'd made them, that was pretty much the end of his creative talent, and since then, he's been 'running on the fumes' of that initial creative fuel... 🙈🙈🙈🙈 I'd have to say that Lucas is a good 'ideas man', but, he's not the strongest writer (and an even worse director) and he needs to be part of a team which can refine his raw idea, polish off the rough edges, and then make that result, work. But when he's surrounded by Yes-Men, like Rick McCallum, there's no one to 'reign him in' and polish that initial concept, and I think that's why Episodes I-III were the way they were... I don't want to say they were 'bad', per se, because I enjoyed them thoroughly (My best friend and I watched Revenge of the Sith upon release, came out of the theatre, then immediately bought tickets to go back in and immediately watch it again) But, comparing them to The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, it's clear to see how those other directors, were able to work with Lucas' writing, and refine it into a better film, thus showing the weakness of Lucas' directing, by comparison to theirs... As Harry Callahan said ''A man's got to know his limitations...'' and, George Lucas, well... He is not such a man... 🙈🙈🙈🙈 But thankyou for bringing this to us, it's certainly an interesting look into 'what might have been', and very well presented 👍👍👍👍

    the bootleg comment is disappointing but not surprising because it’s always “oh but live theater!” and then they do pro shot and record albums and perform on recording for tv so?? and honestly that comment about it’s narcissistic was kinda uncalled for ngl still love alex but i really wish broadway actors would actually get WHY there’s a demand for boots beyond oh everyone is being greedy and narcissistic and doesn’t appreciate live theater

    Until I listened to this for the first time, realizing it was the Original Story/Script that was broadcast to Fail Miserably, I never understood why, exactly literally everybody connected with the First Movie, including the studios, producers, actors, distributors, agents, all of Hollyweird, everybody...had the full expectation the movie would Bomb, and Bomb horribly. The movie wasn't even promoted, it just appeared on a scattering of theaters billboards one Wednesday to begin a brief run on Friday with almost no audience ascendance. I personally saw the movie the Friday it opened in Phoenix, Arizona with my Dad. Neither of us had gone to the theatre to see the movie beforehand, neither of us had even heard of it before in fact. I got to choose the movie because I was on a fun trip with my Dad from Dallas, who was a Captain for American Airlines. I chose it cause being a kid, and into space stuff of all kinds it seemed worth the risk of hating it. Thinking about it years later I would bet it was the last movie my Dad would have picked though, he just did i t for me. Long story short, even though i t was a prime time showing, and all the other movies packed, we were the only people in the entire room. The movie blew us both away and it still ranks as one of the best memories of our lives. We tried to go to see it again with my Mom and Brother as soon as we returned back to Dallas but to our absolute shock and amazement there was a huge line to see the movie that literally went around to the back of the theatre!! And this when word of mouth was still the only thing promoting it!! Never before had any movie had such a reception and although a few others in the future would generate excitement that came sort of close, that was due to the millions of promotion starting weeks and months before. Truly a ounce in a lifetime thing ad head and I fortunate enough to be there for the very first of it all! Can't get better than that!!!

    • @danestudios405
      @danestudios405 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an awesome memory to have! And yeah there are a myriad of reasons people thought this movie would fail. Lucas had one successful film under his belt, the shooting of this movie went over schedule and way over budget, they had small name actors in the leading roles, Sir Alec Guinness was never particularly complimentary about the film, the plot and pacing was a mess originally, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Still, against all odds they managed to put together something magical and unforgetable that would become a cultural icon.

      I wish I had a better answer to give you honestly and I totally get where you’re coming from. Being in NY I have the privilege to go see Broadway shows frequently (before COVID at least), but not everyone is as lucky. That being said, nothing is more infuriating or annoying than having someone decide that cataloging this show on their phone is totally fine because it distracts everyone around you and it’s incredibly rude, because everyone else paid to be there too. Also it’s disrespectful to the actors on stage as well, not to mention potentially dangerous if you’re using flash photography. I understand what you’re saying, but Alex makes the case that even watching bootlegs after the Broadway run is over promotes other people to make more bootlegs. I wish Broadway was more accessible and I wish they had more pro shots that could be released, but unfortunately that is not the case yet. Again, I wish I had a better answer for you and I wish I could make Broadway readily available to everyone. There are a lot of resources though to watch professionally recorded theater that you can look into however.

    • @somethingsalazar2613
      @somethingsalazar2613 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dane Studios tbh i argue both sides. especially if you are near the front dont bootleg but i think if you are far enough away før it not to be distracting to the actors etc then its a lot better. i really wish more musicals were professionally recorded. i mean øne of my favourite musicals (be more chill- dont judge me haha) is no longer even on broadway and although there is obviously the small chance i can watch the london cast, it isnt the same as the actors i love y’know. so now best case scenario i can watch the new cast.

    Wow, Lucas' original script was just as stupid & boring as the Phantom Menace. You can really see here how true it is that Lucas' original movie was saved in the edit.

      @@danestudios405 I started having doubts about Lucas when I saw that tedious plotless hash of a movie, Willow. It was really the same thing. When I saw some of the stupid scenes from the original movie I realized that the limitations and re-editting forced on him actually saved his movie. I commented on it someone told me his wife re-edited his film. We saw her movie. That is why she got Oscar for editing. She saved his ass.

      Actually it was through rewrites after rewrites and help from other people including the cast changing lines as they as a rule didn't do at times in the prequels but then the actors used other than Anakin and Obi Wan and Mace were of the calibre who did make exceptions and said what they didn't want their character doing in Mace's instance I am ain't dying like a bitch.
