Caros Todos, HANDEL é um génio, mas esta interpretação do seu MESSIAH, é fantástica! Posso-vos dizer-lhe já que me iniciei na Música, como menino de coro, com 9 anos de idade, na Igreja de São João de Deus (e sou músico profissional há mais de 50 anos!). Contudo os britânicos tenho uma longa tradição nos coros de Igrejas que falta em Lisboa/Portugal. Tenho um neto de nome Martim tem 14 anos (também conhecido por Pimpim), que seria seguramente um elemento precioso, pois tem uma linda voz de soprano e uma afinação perfeita! Infelizmente na terra que habita actualmente (Brejos de Azeitão) não existe nenhum Coro disponível!

This is the best performance of it's kind. No other performance is so professionally performed and yet personalized. It's very sobering and a reminder of how important we were to God for Him to give His very best- WHILE we were yet in our sin! Every vocalist, chorale and musician matched one another- AMAZING!!!
Stephen Cleobury is a legend. He is sorely underappreciated outside of these circles. We were lucky to have him.

Came here after seeing A&G at the Elgin in Tronno. Tafelmusik+great colorature from the Afrocentric Nathaniel Dett chorale who sang off the right loggia.
I was there as well, wonderful presentation, and was a bit disappointed the chorale was not included in the final curtain call ...even if they were not on the stage proper

“Ombra mai fu” by Valer Sabadus is my favorite interpretation in all the versions he sang until that of May 2024 in Bayreuth. Xerxes surprises us with a wide so delicate and sweet that it touches who knows what emotions, joy or melancholy or tenderness moving to tears.

This is the only proper way to play this oratorio.
This was composed in 1736. I wasn't aware that people back then wore such grungy clothes and had tatts all over the place. Great voices but I thought that "cool" thing of wearing completely out of period clothes was so 80s/90s, didn't realise anyone still did it.

What a delight and a piece that is not as well known as it should be. The music is especially striking. I particularly enjoy the lively pastoral ending - music which I recognised from another Handel piece, welcome for all that.

Scénicky opulentní a vtipné i hravé - Harry Kupfer je geniální režisér a jeho koncepce je brilantní! Jochen Kowalski je naprosto vynikající, ostatní zpěváci víceméně průměrní. Hudební nastudování je NAPROSTÁ KATASTROFA - přitom už v osmdesátých letech bylo možno slyšet nahrávky z oblasti tzv. historicky poučené interpretace (např. Christophera Hogwooda nebo Nicolause Harnoncourta)! Opera je navíc minimálně o třetinu zkrácena a překlad do němčiny vůbec nefunguje. Stejně jako tempa, frázování, artikulace a ornamentika... Z dnešního pohledu je to prostě směšné!

The video quality may be somewhat lacking, but the performance itself is not. This is a rarely performed piece of Handel but with repeated listening, there is much to enjoy.
