Wandering Ukie
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 22 ก.ย. 2020
For anyone around the Montreal area who needs a little slice of life (hopefully with a scoop of ice cream), the Wandering Ukie will be happy to serve you! Whether taking part in a new recipe, trying a microbrewery beer in the yard, working on the house & garden, or just sharing a story while wandering about various neighbourhoods. You may have your mouth watering, learn something, laugh, feel confused or maybe all of the above...
Friday in Mile End - Episode 216
That feeling when the end of Friday hits is always a glorious one. And on this episode, we go back into Mile End on a warm September evening for some draft and Vietnamese cooking!
Unlike all my other visits to Mile End, I did not stop into Siboire as usual. Instead, I check out the Waverly Bar on Saint-Viateur for a fine pint of my favourite beer. You can guess which one that would be...
For a change of scenery, I decided to document Le Bay for the first time on the channel. I remember stopping there once many years ago for a drink. This time, we got some sake and a fried noodle dish with chicken. I don't usually show off this type of food, but once in a while it makes a nice diversion from my normal beef tartare.
Thanks for watching this latest episode!

Canada Day Greeting from Saint-Lambert!
веселих свят
Thanks Mark! Happy holidays to you and your family too!
Algorithm be drunk
Greetings. For Christmas 2024 would you consider creating a video of how you celebrated the holiday with your family in your youth and prepare a dish of kutia.
I do have a Christmas episode in mind, Mark. I'm hoping to get it recorded while I'm on vacation. Funny you say kutia, cause I did record an episode on that almost 3 years ago. 😄
I see you don't have a white onion. Is it because of the war?
That's why I could only get those big yellow ones 😉
Great spot, eh! Lived right up the road on clark
And a pretty affordable price compared to a lot of other coffee shops!
Very nice. I'll take my morning walk in NDG park later this morning.
Holy shit you kinda look a little bit like Stefan Raab (German comedian)
Thanks for the brunch outing. Have a good weekend.
Thanks Mark! Cheers to you too!
Head over heels! one of my favorites.
Probably my favourite off Songs From the Big Chair! As much as I enjoy the other singles, it was hearing this again that convinced me to buy the album.
I would love my future son to do a walk through of my apartments. Beautiful coloniale avenue , to durocher street, and clark street
Cheers Ukie!
Ill take things that never happened for 100 Alex
On the contrary, this happend 10 minutes before I recorded this short.
@@wanderingukienice meeting you again Ukie! ☺️ I’m sorry this person’s losing 100. Hope it wasn’t a daily double 😉🤞
Great video and thanks for sharing your thoughts on family.
Your transformational process into a Halloween character reminds me of the 1950s Ed Woods movies 🎬 .
Ed Wood? Well, guess if I filmed this in black & white, I could have tried to channel Bela Lugosi from that time 😆
Thank you for sharing your Babchas life journey. Her story is similar to my parents and I immigrating to the US in 1949. Look forward to listening to your father's family.
Nice!
Looks french
Youre right! I'm based in Montreal, so you can get this in almost every restaurant.
Great video. There was an ogre lurking behind your hedges during taping. He looked like he was ready to pounce on you beef tartare.
Ogre??? I might have to check the episode again find out where he was 😆

Thanks for the backyard cookout. The vegetable medley looks fantastic.
Tasty as always. As much as I enjoy a good steak or fish on the grill, a simple vegetable platter is also welcome!
Slow is fast and fast is smooth.
Awesome video! What is your favorite Rush song? Mine is probably The Trees
Glad you enjoyed it! My favourite Rush song? Easy...The Analog Kid! That takes me back to summer 2006 when I first bought Signals!
Thanks for sharing this! I miss the 211 bus ride to Beaconsfield and you stopped at St Louis, I love that neighbourhood 😍
It's a bit disconnected from the rest of the island, but that does have its own charm. Cheers!
Thanks for the tip on preparing beef tartare. I will try making it.
Hope it's a success for you! There are other ways that chefs will prepare their meat for tartare, but this is the technique I'm most comfortable with
Thanks for the video. Enjoyed it very much.
Glad you like it Mark. Cheers to the weekend!
Great costume. Enjoyed the eeeeeerie Halloween feast prep. One question for you, steak/beef tartare is illegal to serve in northeast US restaurants. Is there a resto in Montreal which serves this delightful entre.
Glad you enjoyed it! To be honest, just about every restaurant around here serves tartare on their menu. So you really don't have any shortage of places to find it. If you have any parts of the city you think you'd want to visit next time you come, tell me and I can suggest a few spots. Cheers!
Loved PEZ, but IPA’s are a hipster scourge of beer.
From one Ukie to another thanks for the video. Really enjoyed it.
Much appreciated!
Meilleur endroit si vous êtes à la recherche d'un vinyle en particulier. Le propriétaire est un grand mélomanes avec un inventaire variés.
C'est parfait ! Je vais retourner là pour voir leurs vinyles!
Used to live a stones throw from there, on Clark and Ontario. Personally my highest rated espresso shot in Montreal.
With the endless amounts of espresso bars in Montreal, that says a lot! And it's pretty affordable too!
Cool man, hello from Edmonton!
Cheers!
Good beer?
It sure was! That's a pint of their Cactus New England IPA.
Hey bro can you please make a video of you visiting Dollard-des-Ormeaux? (If you didnt did yet) Btw, great video, keep it up!
Thanks for the cheers, man! I know I've got a few West Island ideas to tackle in the future. Keep DDO in mind!
@@wanderingukie Alr, thanks!
Second time this morning I hear Jr Walker's SHOTGUN . First was at the beginning of MISERY which I was watching while having my breakfast
Quite the coincidence! I used that mostly cause I have an uncle who grew up in Cote-des-Neiges and is a huge soul fan. That, and connecting Men Without Hats to the Julep stand, became the musical themes of the episode. Glad you're still following my adventures Dan!
Cantor’s !!! ❤❤❤❤
I really miss their cheese danishes. Might need to visit the factory in Saint-Michel one day
Montreal city 😎
Thanks for the bus ride. I haven't been on one in 40 years.
Glad you enjoyed my little journey.
Ukie, I don’t know if you remember, but we met at Bonaventure. I also lost both my parents. It’ll be a year for my dad in October. It is beautiful that you mention your parents in your video. Don’t forget, it is still the first year for your mom. A lot of milestones and first times. We’ll welcome every memory you want to share with us. 🫶❤️🩹🧸
Raphaelle, I do remember you. It's not often people walk up to me and say "hey, you're the Wandering Ukie!" 😅 I've been trying to think of the right words given what you shared. I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. This last year could not have been an easy one. It's something I know too well. The most we can all do is remember the good times and share memories. The last 2 years, I feel like paying tribute to them has become a big theme of my videos. It's sort of a way to create a video diary of the present while also looking back over my childhood. And hopefully, others who watch these can feel like they're sharing my memories too. Stay strong!
Really enjoyed today's video especially when you reminisce about your youth and family.
Glad you liked it. Thinking back to my family and childhood has become a big theme these last years.
Awesome video so far
It may not be the same route you suggested, but I knew you'd like the fact it started along Duluth 😎
you should try out kimlyparc!
Thanks for the stroll down Sherbrooke avenue.
Glad you enjoyed it. I find Sherbrooke Street in NDG has a few neat spots. Will need to return one day. Cheers!
Thanks for doing the NDG area. When I visit Montreal I stay in this area.
You best believe this won't be the last time I visit NDG for the episodes. 😁
I'm from the states and did make a special trip to attend the 2022 Montréal Ukie festival. Thanks for the video footage. Slava Ukraini.
Glad you were able to experience in person back then! Slava!
Where is this, it’s so beautiful!
This is in Saint-Hubert, a suburb just off the island of Montreal. It's got a pretty nice lakeside park behind that forest.
@@wanderingukie oh ok, thank you!
i walked here today! :)
It's a pretty nice street. 😊
@@wanderingukie yeah! It’s a great street.
American and Canadian cities are so different compared to British cities
They seem to be different from European cities in general, based on the few I've seen. The closest you get to that in Canada is probably Quebec City.
Hope u had a lovely bbq and would love to see the next one 😊 ❤
Thank you! It was a really nice one. I actually just recorded a BBQ episode yesterday which will be dropping later on. 😏
josie !!! amazing album
I think going to that buvette was a good excuse to use the song. 😅 But Steely Dan had a great discography in general!
How lovely 😊
Summertime in Montreal is always lovely 😊
Is this in Europe
Actually, this is in Montreal. This and Quebec City are some of the oldest cities in Canada. So you're still going to find traces of architecture from centuries ago.
