Welcome to my Antagonist channel. My problem is too many interests and not enough time! I enjoy mountain walking, bushcraft, canoeing, trekking, cycling, camping, archaeology and history. Please let me know what you enjoy about my videos, or what you don't. I'm always open to suggestions for new content. Filming and editing is quite a challenge and I've still a lot to learn.

Cycle camping in The Netherlands. (Ep.4)
มุมมอง 125วันที่ผ่านมา
Episode 4 of my cycle camping trip to Friesland and the north of The Netherlands. A relaxed day, made more enjoyable by the sunshine and the short ferry rides to see me on my way. I ended up in a perfect camp site, which I almost had to myself. Apologies if this one is a bit short, promise the next will be longer! Huge thanks to everyone who has subscribed.

Part three of my cycle camping trip in The Netherlands. This covers days 3&4. I cross the Afsluitdijk and make it to Friesland. I stay near Jirnsum at a delightful campsite and journey on the bus to Leeuwarden. I visit the local museum, enjoy walking around the town and come across a leaning tower!

After 30 years we replaced our bikes and decided to try them out during a short weekend hop across the channel. We cycled from Pont Farcy in Normandy, France, to St. Lo and back. We camped using our Oz Tent. A video primarily aimed at those who may consider doing the same. Visit the Queyras in France - it's stunning!
มุมมอง 2854 ปีที่แล้ว
A circular hike from Ceillac in the Queyras to Lac Miroir and Lac Sainte-Anne. We walked, on a very hot summer's day, from the campsite at Ceillac and zig-zagged through the larch trees to Lac Miroir (Mirror Lake). Thence we climbed to the Chapelle Sainte-Anne, which overlooks an iridescent blue lake. After a picnic by its shore we descended past the tumultuous Cascade de la Pisse and returned ...

A 14km circular walk climbing to the Col de Bramousse and continuing to the Col Fromage. Our anti-clockwise route took in the vertiginous Crête des Chambrettes and an old observatory before the descent to Ceillac. The walk follows part of the GR58 (variant) and GR5. Music: www.bensound.com
Hiking in the Queyras - The GR58 Ceillac to St Veran
มุมมอง 5454 ปีที่แล้ว
We hiked part of the GR58 trail from Ceillac to St Veran in the southern French Alps. We intended to walk further days but my daughter was suffering from the heat so we decided an overnighter was enough and spent the rest of our time enjoying some day hikes instead. We still had a great time and the Queyras is undeniably scenic. Music: www.BenSound.com
Walking the Lambourn Valley Way
มุมมอง 7024 ปีที่แล้ว
A summer Sunday stroll with friends. We walked a 13km circular route from Boxford via Donnington Castle north of Newbury, West Berkshire. The route parallels the River Lambourn to Bagnor then crosses over the A34 dual carriageway to the castle. We stopped at the castle for a light picnic before descending and crossing to the southern bank of the river. We headed west past Donnington Grove Count...
Having fun in the French Pyrenees!
มุมมอง 4544 ปีที่แล้ว
Antics from our family trip to the Pyrenees in southern France in 2018 that I've only just got around to stitching together. We managed to fit in quite a lot: cycling, watching the Tour de France, hiking in the mountains, canyoning, white water rafting and Via Ferrata. Unfortunately, on about the fourth day I suffered sciatica (lumbago) probably brought on by the two-day drive south. I was flat...

YT's algorithm popped up with sth Groningen, my residence for 40 plus years. Always curious about how 'outsiders' see this place. Was pleasantly surprised when I saw 'Wildemansheerd" , because I've loved camping there several times. Lovely place, an island of quiet, and birdsong.
Absolutely! A great find.
An amazing camp site.
You come across them now and again and want to keep them secret!
agree about camping thats the best..in a tent..feeling and hearing the wind when u go to sleep... but when u cycling the wind is not very funny,,realy makes you worn out,,,nice video...see next time..
So true!
Yes indeed, nature campings are great, I love the quiet nature too. My personal favorite is the Kampeerbosje, in Leerdam. In the center of the Netherlands.
Thanks for the tip!
2:52 No supermarket around ? In the Netherlands ? 😂 I hope you realise now that it is not REALLY an issue 👍🏻🤝🏻🇳🇱
I’m not that lucky!
Love those ferries they have there. If you want a longer cruise the one from Enkhuizen to Stavoren is super-fun and an alternative way of getting up into Friesland to riding over that dyke (or going on a bus until it reopens).
this trip is more like "ferry" camping then cycle camping...😅😅... nice video a bit short maybe...
Thanks. More to come! Trying to keep it a video for each day but some days I took more footage than others. Obviously, not so much this time!
the bicycle dealer must be happy with the exchange...😂
6:50 This is not a cycle path. British people reason "if you can ride a horse on it, it is good enough to cycle" As a dutchie, I would not consider this path unless on a mountain bike. Hope you enjoy Friesland. My favorite province.
Indeed, beautiful. I have been wanting to visit Friesland for a while. Not sure where I went wrong with the path. I was using an app. Needless to say i struggled on!
Relaxing ride over "the afsluitdijk" with headwind this one is rather a challenge i can tell you, Another Epic day on dutch biking infrastructure you had, cheers And even better a nice day out in Leeuwarden,
Fietsknoop is pronounced like ‘feets knoap’…
I pronounce it differently every time I say it I think!
The Fight Snoop app is great!
Great video, what was the cost of the ferry these days?
Thanks - more to come! Ferry was £268.40 (return) including single inside cabin. Parking at Harwich was £85.00. Almost the same as taking your vehicle across but unfortunately I don't have any contact locations to park up safely for a couple of weeks.
@@Antagonisticisn't cheaper to take the ferry from Folkstone to Zeebrugge? Did that long ago.
I wonder which brand bicycle bags you use?
The pannier set was by Karrimor and has served us well for over 30 years. I doubt they make them any more. I sometimes think about upgrading but they work and I'm too poor!
she missed the bus. What a lovely journey.
nice to hear that u and ur wife still togehter...nice video,, i like to go to the netherlands some day to bicycle camping too..looks very nice..
Thanks. Apart from first-rate cycle infrastructure something interesting always comes along in The Netherlands!
The interesting sound is the monthly test of our alarmsystem. Every first Monday of the month at noon.
Thanks. Alarm for what? Flooding?
Originally these were air raid sirens. But the russians never came so now its for flooding and other disasters. Glad to hear your wife didnt leave permanently!
Let's hope they are never needed!
@@Antagonistic When not at noon on 1st monday of the month... Check you smartphone, internet news, radio, television. Can be anything big, flood, war, chemical, etc. In my 68 years only once, a big fire on a scrapyard with pitch black smoke, taking away anyone's breath. Local area had to be evacuated.
@@Antagonistic War, storms, flooding, everything.
The sign means shallow water, "on" diep , "on" means not deep in this case so that people will not dive into the water and break their neck, And indeed good you clarified the left part in this video, because i was also thinking of "left" in another way, I watched a year ago your family biking trip in the Netherlands, and i did almost the same route from france, camping at a few spots that you were staying, so it helped me a lot, I will follow your trip also this time , thnx, for the upload
Oh that is really great to hear! I'm so pleased that my ramblings are of some use.
I live about 45 minutes away from Leiden, but I've never been there... I think I should also plan a bikeride to Leiden when the weather becomes nice again
Definitely. I'm already planning on returning. However, for us it is the bother and expense of crossing the Channel. We waste two days of our holidays travelling....
Perfect response to this life event (ex-wife event?)

Episode 2 to be uploaded today, when you can find out...
Hope you enjoy(ed) your time here and will be reunited with the family soon.
She didn't actually leave him , she just went shopping.
First adventure of many!
I live between Hoek van Holland and The Hague. Recogneized the cyclepath there. Have a good journey.

I replaced the runaway wife with a motorbike and a French bulldog...definite improvement...
So you found another bitch❓😂
Sounds idyllic 😊
Dutchman here: Yes the Netherlands is very idyllic. Avoid Amsterdam, but go to Haarlem, Leiden, Delft, Gouda, Utrecht and Amersfoort. You can go by train, or rent a bike. If you love nature go to the Island in the North of the Netherlands. I can recommended Terschelling.
Which part, the wife leaving or cycling Holland? 😂
I love cycling in the NL. The Fietsknoop app is incredible. I went in June and in Sept. Going back next year. As an alternative to camping, do try Vrienden op de Fiets and/or Warmshowers. 👍
sorry to hear about ur wife man...maybe ur better without her... i wounderd were u gone,, long time since u published a video... take care body... and looking forward to the next one...
Just found this video. My wife and I did this walk in July 1991. Then onto refuge Agnel. We intended to do the whole tour but realised it was going to be too much for us in the heat so from Refuge Agnel we did a 3 day loop back to Ceillac. Your video is wonderful. I had forgotten all the details of the first day. I don't think I appreciated at the time how beautiful the scenery was. Thanks.
@@russellcampbell3274 Thank you. We'd love to go again. It was hot. Seems you never can win!

I think your probably right...
He was illyrian that means: Freedom Star 👐☀️👐 All balkan and greece in that time was called illyria with many little kingdoms. Name Macedonia come not from the tallest just like they say. I have study some ancient story and in old time every place name or human name was given from the meaning, what means and so was given the name. Macedonia (Makedoni) is name that means Maja Ke Doni. in illyrian Maja means: to the top, or highest. Ke means: to. Doni means: Free will and Doni was called Poseidon and Poseidon means: only when he will, the power of free will. Makedoni: Maja Ke Doni, Top to Don (Poseidon). You no why just see greece map where was old Macedonia and you will see down on sea Trident 🔱 and high in mountain the Temple was called Maja Ke Doni (Macedonia) Alexander means: is born head (the leader) so much honor.
Nice misinformation thanks 🤮
Thank you so much!
Archeon is great
Have really enjoyed the 3 part videos of your cycle tour to Denmark and The Netherlands. In September we cycle toured Friesland and then some of the old Hansa towns in the Netherlands which included Hassem, Hasselt, Zwolle and Kampen. Denmark has now been added to our next years cycle touring plans!
Thank you. Pleased to give you some ideas. The only pain for us was the 4 days getting to and from Denmark which eats into the holiday.
Looks a lovely walk...hoping to start walking to the highest hills in all the English historic counties soon..[ New sub ]
What a lovely idea. I think I would start with Norfolk or Suffolk! I recall that walk was on a very hot day!

Flag rules have been softened up, this year I think. You can put up any flag now. The up/down rule is simple, no Dannebrog up at night (dark), it is considered to be flagging for the devil. Old stuff as you can imagine. Fun fact: It is NOT illegal to burn the Dannebrog. You can burn it, shout at it all you want. But it is illegal to burn other countries flag. It is the worlds oldest national flag. There are plenty of older flags, but not as national flag. The area you were in, is known for many shoot down of British bombers, during WWII. Some were rescued, some were not. That why you can find small memorials and gravestones, here and there. It is not uncommon to see British people visit their ancestors in this part of DK. The big agriculture is mostly in Jutland, more space over there. Bacon yes. Pigs are indoor, so you really don't notice them. Some pig farms are over, 200000 per year, so they are big. It takes a lot of pigs to keep the Brits happy 🙂 We do also have outdoor pigs.
Thanks so much - great to get some useful feedback. Definitely doing our bit to dent the bacon supply!
Excellent! I really enjoyed watching this. It's great to see how well set up the Danes are for bike touring. xxx
Look out for Part 2!
Hej. I’m a Kiwi living in Denmark 🇩🇰 and patiently awaiting my kids to get a bit older before we take them cycle touring. Nice to see you enjoying the amazing cycle path and shelter network in DK. Side note if you time your trip right you can basically eat free wild fruit from the top to the bottom of DK. If you come back you take a rest day at our house. All the best.
I like the idea of eating for free! Man thanks for your kind offer, we will certainly try and return to Denmark - the country and people were lovely. If only it didn't take so long to get there and back - travelling accounts for four days of the hols. I'm amazed the kids still come along although getting any feedback from teenagers can be a struggle! Would love to make it to NZ one day...Ant
