POV Portrait Photography - Flash Photography with Fujifilm 35mm + XT3
This is a POV portrait photography video I shot yet again in Dillion, CO, with the amazing model, Zo!
Check out her Instagram and give her a follow in the link down below.
I used the Fujifilm X-T3 paired with the Fujifilm XF 35mm F2 lens in this POV Portrait photography shoot. It has the fast AF speed and weather resistance which was ideal for portrait shoots like this.
For the flash, I mainly used the Godox AD600 PRO at around full to 1/2 power for most of the day until the battery ran out, which I then switched to the Godox AD200 PRO near the end, using the MagMod MagGrid and MagSphere combo.
I filmed this video with the GoPro Hero 8 as my POV portrait photography camera and my iPhone 11 as the second angle of view.

มุมมอง 42K4 ปีที่แล้ว
The 2022 review of the Fujifilm XF 23mm F2 where we dive into what this lens has to offer. It excels in many areas that you would expect of a modern lens with high versatility with some limitations, which if you make sure to understand first, could help the application to your photography immensely. What type of photography is the 23mm focal length good for? With the maximum aperture of F2, how...

Unfortunately I forgot to bring my mount to hold my iPhone on a gorillapod to record me shooting, so instead...
So if I understand, if I move back to 1m distance, even with f2, image is tack sharp?
I have the 16mm f2.8 and the 35mm f2. and they’re awesome lenses. I’ve just ordered the 23mm f2 and after watching your video I know that I’ve made the right decision 👍🏼
Great review, thank you!
super thanks for this video bro!
In the picture with the lady in a swimsuit with rhe city in the background, what F stop was that shot in?
You’re the only other person I know that likes the lens hood. I like it a lot too. I wish it wasn’t plastic but the design doesn’t bother me. I tried the metal lens hood Fuji makes for this lens and while it’s pricey, it’s also really nice but it extends the length of the lens a little too much for me so I returned it.
Haha I get that! I’ve been tempted to get the square hood one for the longest time but I still haven’t been able to spend that amount on it yet 😆
Great review! Very nice pictures! What camera did u use for them?
Thank you @iuriltube! I shot all the images with the X-T3!
@@TimothyYip xt3 is a classic!
It sure is! But I haven’t touched it much since I got my X-T5! Only use the X-T3 when I need both bodies for shooting weddings 😆 What body do you use?
Amazing , what configuration did you use ? Was it automatic ? i have the same camera and same lens, love if you could help me out, been having some difficulty
Hey sorry I missed this comment and thank you! I use the zone option in autofocus, having it in the biggest square, in continuous mode, and leaving it in the centre of the frame. See if that helps out!
I got the same camera and lens, can you tell me your set ups you use ? Been doing streets photo but having some difficulty on taking some nice wide shots on focus, and the automatic focus too when i get too close of the subject, im looking for a cofig. That guves me more speed on the streets just point and shoot, love your shots btw👏🏼👏🏼
Hey there! I replied in your comment with my settings in my other video!
Найс
The Fujicrons-23mm-35mm-50mm f2 lenses all offer exceptional quality for their respective price points, IMHO. Nice job on the review, covering the strength & weakness of this focal length.😊
Thanks for the very informative review of this lens. Since I am transitioning from Canon to Fuji I am trading my canon 24 1.4 for the 23 f2. I am getting older, and will be doing more travel so I am focusing on the mirrorless system now. I really appreciated your image samples, and the overall production quality of this video. You did a fantastic job. The one thing I would have liked to see is some video samples using this lens, which is what I am very interested in as well as stills since I have an X-S10 body. Regardless I really appreciated your thoughts on this lens, which i pick up today! Yeah!
Hi Paul! That’s a big and great move migrating to a mirrorless system! I never looked back ever since I did the same going from the Nikon D850 to the X-T3! I will keep that in mind with the video samples for my next video (XF 35mm F2)! That’s exciting news on picking up this lens today! Thank you for your kind words and hope you enjoy the lens!
@@TimothyYip Well, I got the lens and I am very happy with it. I am still learning how my X-S10 works, and I am certain I will create great images like you, although I am more of a landscape shooter! LOL! For now I will keep my remaining Canon gear (5Dsr, 24-70 L, 16-35 IS L, and 70-200 f4 IS L) as I am having a hard time parting with my 50 mp camera and the amazing images I get from it! Take care Timothy, and keep up the great work you present. Bye for now. I just subscribed for your channel!
That’s a very nice Canon kit you have there with the holy trinity! The X-S10 is a great body, I’m sure you’ll love the pairing with the 23mm f2! Here’s to you capturing some great images with it! 🍻 thank you for the follow! Means a lot to me to continue with this!
@@TimothyYip Hey Timothy! I am loving this lens! I took more time today to play with it and it is sharp! All the best.
Nice scenery, lovely model, and good job taking the photos. Just wondering if you edited the softbox reflecting on her shades?
Hey Luis! Thank you for the kind words! I did not edit the softbox out of the goggles! It would have taken way too much time to do that! 😆 plus I think it’s kinda cool that it’s on there! Appreciate your time for watching!
The shot at 3:28 is gorgeous, at this distance does f2 resolve ok now? Is it only towards the minimum focus distance that the f2 struggles? I'm still researching my 23mm options for Fuji. I really wish a f1.2 AF option existed. To me the jump between f2 to 1.4 is not that much, hard to justify the price leap also. But a jump from f2 to 1.2 is really significant now, how I wish Fuji pushed a little more on their newest 23mm to being 1.2, I'd gladly take soft corners and a little more weight for that option.
Hey Eddy! Thank you! For those shots around the marker you’re referring to, none of them has softness issue, in fact they were fairly sharp. All those shots were taken at least 3-6ft (1-2m) away from the subject. It only really struggles at the MFD at wide opened. Once stopped down to f2.8 ish + the obvious softness disappears. I have the new 23mm f1.4 and am in love with it. It is definitely way bigger than the f2 but everything about it just feels so good! 1.2 would be nice but I think the sacrifice on weight and price will be too great to be worth it, at least in my opinion. Plus the 1/3 stop difference from 1.2 and 1.4 is too minor for the added attributes mentioned above. There’s always the 50mm f1 if you’re want the fastest lens avail :) Thanks for watching the vid and I hope you’ll find the answer to your needs! 👊🏽
Awesome POV! Quick question, what do you mount your gopro with? I want my gopro more centered like this haha
I use the “Chesty” mount from from GoPro! Keeps it very sturdy. :) Thank you for watching the vid!
I am awaiting this being delivered and just noticed the close up reviews which are also comparing with the 23mm 1.4 . I am happier now as is pointed out 1.4 is almost double the price . I will be using for landscapes and daily rather than close ups in any event.I would probably buy a macro lens if want to use for more close ups or use my nikon dslr.
Hey sorry for the late reply! Hope the f2 has been serving you well! It’s truly an amazing lens!
@@TimothyYip Hi yes thanks is very good. I found it good for landscapes also.
Love this lens. Regarding the hood and cap, one trick that I do is when transporting the lens capped, I remove the hood then install the cap directly on the lens, and then reinstall the hood. This prevents accidental loss of the cap since the squeeze tabs are now protected by the hood. If you install the cap to the hood directly, you will eventually hit one of the squeeze tabs and possibly loose the cap.
Hey Albert! Good tip! Thanks for sharing!
Great review Timothy!
Thanks Riaz! Cheers!
Quality video, mate. Definitely made my mind up for my next lens.
Thanks Chris! I think you’ll enjoy it v much!
Hi, would you recommend this streaming on twitch? Thanks. I'm using the old xt20 and it'll be my first time to buy a replacement lens for the kit included. :)
Hey sprout! 23mm will be a good FL for streaming on Twitch, it’ll fill the frame quite tightly. I personally like using the 16mm for that purpose better. Thanks for watching!
@@TimothyYip sorry that’s my gaming id. I’m Karl and thanks for the suggestion! I have my xt20 on the closet since the pandemic, decided to use it again, and give the lens a lil upgrade. Great content! Sub’d and liked ‘cause I’m a fuji user as well! I’ll keep an eye out on your new and old videos! 🤙🏼
Thanks for the review 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Thanks for watching! 👊🏽💥
Nice informative video. And some lovely shots🥂 I’ve just subscribed.
Thank you, kind sir!
Fantastic video. Your image samples are awesome and your entire presentation is extremely well done. I've subscribed. Can't wait to see more.
Thanks for the kind words Craig! 👊🏽 35mm f2 vid in the making and coming up next!
The best lens I ever owned. I had it on my XT2 so often that I ended up selling both and replacing with an X100V, which is basically the same. I love the X100V, mainly for its size, but I've always felt the images from the 23mm F2 and XT2 were better - sharper and just better - hard to explain. But I sometimes consider selling my X100V and trading for an XE4 and this 23mm lens. One day maybe
Hey James, that’s interesting hear! I haven’t used the x100v before but read and heard raving reviews on that body including the updated lens from the x100f. I love the 23mmf2, definitely my fav lens for street work.
The XF23mm f2 is actually a bit wider than 35mm equivalent. It's more like 31-32mm. This creates a little more wide angle distortion, making for more interesting images IMO.
I wonder: if I need to stop down to F5.6 for sharpness, I can as well go with the kit lens. Seeing it up for 23 mm, still gives me the choice to go from f3.2 and above. So what is the benefit apart from WR then
I don’t think it’s necessary to stop it down that low unless you’re shootings at minimum focus distance, if you are then f3.2-f4 gets the sharpness needed, otherwise I have no issues shooting wide opened.
@@TimothyYip thanks for coming back Tim. what is the focus distance where the lens becomes fairly sharp at f2? is there any experience on your side?
Hey Artur, I’d say 2-3 steps from the object renders results where I’m happy with!
Nice!!!
Nice!!!!
Thank you! 🙏🏽
Hi tim, can you recomend which lens should I use in coffee shop environvent? I wanna go with 35mm but I doubt that it's too close when shooting on counter coffee brewing.
Hey there! I’d personally go with the 23mm but if you have a lot of space then 35mm wouldn’t be a bad choice for it.
I really love the “YES!” moment, so cool.
That was a top knotch video mate! You worked well with her, and I was always curious to see how these lights were in the bright sun, which was nicely balanced, and these are fantastic photos!
Love seeing the behind the scenes on photo shoots. This is such a cool idea.
What shirt are you wearing?
Raaa ! I wish to buy the xf35 f2 and I saw your video and now I don't know which one I should buy 😬 (And I can't take both 😆)
Haha! They’re both great lenses! It really depends what you shoot more and what FoV you prefer!
@@TimothyYip I like landscape when I ride my bike, a bit street photography, my family (include the dog 😁). I'm really looking for a "all round" lens. Unfortunately the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 doesn't not exists for us and Fuji is really expensive for me 😬
I love riding my bike and taking some street from time to time too. In my honest opinion I’ll personally take the 23mm over 35mm for the type of photography you just mentioned. 35mm could be too a bit too tight. Not sure if you’re patient enough but Sigma are working on lenses for Fujifilm X series, no news on what they are yet but there will be some coming. My guess is some time in 2022.
@@TimothyYip thanks again for your time 👌 I'll go to my store and try both lens. 23 or 35 will be a good start for me. Actually I've got only 18-55, so I could wait a bit but sigma will not release this lens in early 2022 😬 also, 23 f2 or 35 f2 are not expensive, fortunately for me 😁
That’s good news! Hope you find the one that speaks to you!
Hi Timothy, I just want to know if your aperture blades would make a sound when autofocusing especially when you set the lens at an aperture other than f2. Also, what body do you use?
Hey Jeremiah! I don’t hear any audible sound from the aperture blades when autofocusing in or outside of f2. I’m using a X-T3. Thanks for watching!
Great review
Thank you!
U got a 35 video?
Thanks. Since I only had the 16-50 3.5, which for center of the lens sharpness and macro is pretty crazy good, this will give me the edge to edge I need for a specific project, where I will also need the 5.6 for some depth of field. Yes, too bad no ois, but my project can be done with tripod and timer. I can always get one or two macro adapters down the road.
Good points! OIS would definitely be nice to have! I’ve been eyeing on the 80mm 2.8 for quite some time now myself. Thank you for the comment and watching!
dont fall down please
Nice Tim! :)
Thanks Bev! Hope you’re doing well! 🙏🏽
Hi it was nice review I wanna ask if you choose only two prime lenses which prefer? Xf 18 f2.8 Xf 23 f2 Xc 35 f2 Its for traveling , shoot landscape , architecture and foods Also , shoot video as well
Hey I think if you could chose two for the type of photography you listed, I would go with the 18mm and the 35mm since 23mm will be too close to either end. Thank you for watching and your comment!
@@TimothyYip thank you :)
Is your copy made in Japan?
Hey Thomas! Yes, mine was made in Japan. Thanks for watching!
@@TimothyYip trade you for a philippines copy. Jk. But I'm actually curious of any image quality differences.
Haha I doubt there’s any quality difference based on where it was produced. Process would be the same.
The 23mm is in my opinion a real do-it-all lens, and i used one for over 2 years paired with a 50/56 lens. But I've recently changed up my kit to a 16/35 combo, just for something different. Still, the 23 is in my opinion the most versatile lens. :)
I like the 16/35mm combo! What do you shoot mostly? All hail the 23mm! 🙌🏽😊 Thank you for your commrnt and watching!!
I like how you've spend most of the video's time explaining the technical aspect each street photo for this len. Nice seeing Sydney, never been.
Good review. I agree with most of the points but for me the 16mmf1.4 is the most versatile lens though
Nice! What do you mostly shoot? Thank you for your comment and watching! 👊🏽💥
@@TimothyYip landscape, street and portrait. I also own the 23mmf2 and I use it quite a bit. But in low light and for those close up shots, the 16mmf1.4 is just the one I would always use. Great video, thanks for that!
I use the 16mmf1.4 myself for landscape, portraits and also events myself! That lens is in a complete different class than the 23mmf2 for sure. I’ll be doing a video for that lens eventually! :)
@@TimothyYip great to hear! I made one of my channel actually if you want to check it out!
Great review & images! I have the 23 & it is my first choice lens for most of my urban & street work. Great lens!📷👌🏾
Hey Steve, I appreciate the kind words! The 23mmf2 is too my first choice when it comes to street! Love that FL for it! Thanks for watching! 🙏🏽✨
what f stop were you using during the shoot, or did you vary it?
Apart from its poor close focusing performance wide open. The lens is fantastic from 1 meter or beyond at all aperture.
Totally agree! Cheers for the feedback and thank you for watching! 🤙🏽
This lens sits on my xt30 most of the time or my xe1. Great lens but must say that the I slightly favor the 1.4 version in terms of IQ. But they are very close.
Good to know! Would love to do a comparison one day. Thanks for your comment and watching the video!
The most annoying thing about this lens is it's so easy to accidentally move aperture ring when I carry the camera one handed. This happened to me so many times.
It is worst on the 23mm f/1.4!
When I hear "It's built like a tank" my life gets shorter 3 months. 😃 Really, we do not know how things are made by looking at the outside and feeling the weight. 🙂 Thanks for the video! Beautiful photos you have! 👍👌
Haha! Just a figure of speech. But this thing is bulletproof like, no joke. Appreciate your kind comment and thank you for watching Bojan! 👊🏽💥
