Riding trail 104 @ Huckleberry Flats OHV on a KTM 450SXF FE
This is a fun trail but there is a very small window of time when it's really good. In the winter time is extremely slick, and the corners fill up with water. In the summer time it gets dusty and the corners turn to powder.

Is a 450 too much bike for riding in the woods?
มุมมอง 29712 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Tell me what you think is the best bike for riding in the woods, and why? I currently have this 2023.5 KTM 450SXF FE that's set up for the woods, and I also have a 2022 KTM 250XC TPI with TSP. They're both great for different things, but if you could only have one bike to ride in the woods, what would it be?

Can a Vortex ECU help a KTM 450 if you're riding only woods?

Trail 47 at Three Trails OHV, has some open and flowing, but also some real tight single track. It's the perfect trail to test our the Vortex ECU by Twisted Development. Stay till the end to hear my thoughts opinions, and where I really see the benefits.
This trail is so much fun. Nothing like a fast and flowing single track trail.
มุมมอง 77วันที่ผ่านมา
This 2023.5 KTM 450SXF FE is so good in the fast and flowing sections, plus it has great roll on power now with the Vortex ECU, and the KYB Spring fork conversion by M9 Suspension really soaks up all of the tree roots and braking bumps. Riding Trail 55 at Three Trails Rivers North.
This KTM 450 SXF FE might be the best all-around bike I've owned.
มุมมอง 11421 วันที่ผ่านมา
People often say that a 450 is just too much bike for the woods. If you were riding tight technical trails I would agree, but when it comes to the more open and flowing, this 450 is amazing. I do have a KTM 250XC 2-stroke also, so I pick the bike based on the terrain I'll be riding.
Just how good is the KTM 450 for riding trails, and in the woods?

Toyota has been sending them on the upper end models, but a tonneau cover isn’t available in our accessory catalog yet, so if we ordered one aftermarket, it would cost $600 🤦‍♂️

      The intake on the newer YZ is pretty loud. Because it sits right under your face, instead of behind you like most bikes, there’s not any way around it. The benefit is that because it has the downdraft intake, it seems to build RPM’s quicker, and that can be good or bad depending on what you like. I had two YZ450’s and I loved the motor because of how fast they would rev.

    I have a 2023 Tundra. I have had multiple issues with the gas gauge showing full when I know there is much less gas in the tank. An easy way to reset the gas gauge is to park on flat ground, leave the engine running and put the automatic transmission in park. Engage the transmission to drive. Shut off the engine. Watch the gas gauge. It should start to drop to the appropriate level (approximately 20 to 30 seconds). Put the transmission back in park. Restart your engine and all should be good. My dealer said they have never heard of the problem or how to reset. I have it documented at the dealer and am hoping Toyota can come up with a fix.

    • @padrescout
      @padrescout 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In theory, if it's a high compression engine (no, clue, haven't checked and I don't care enough to check) the ECU will advance the timing a bit due to the slower ignition on the premium, so it'd run with a little more power/better fuel economy. If they recommend 87 then I kind of doubt it's a high compression engine and yeah.... nuts to throwing octane in a hole in the ground.

    • @kevinbradley8613
      @kevinbradley8613 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@padrescout the car care nut (really good channel for Toyota related maintenance), mentioned using higher octane fuels “occasionally” because of the detergents they use to help keep your engine clean, but if the engine is rated for 87 octane, it’s kind of pointless to waste money expecting your engine to run smoother or with better power when it’s set up for 87. The manual just says to use 87 octane or higher. I’ve owned several cars with high compression engines and they will recommend using minimum 89, 91, or higher and it’s usually posted right inside the fuel door of the vehicle. The 5.7 hemi wanted 89 minimum or the Nissan VQ37 wanted 91 minimum for example. Neither of those engines use forced induction but still required premium fuels. The 2.0 Turbos in the VW gti and Subaru wrx also required premium fuels as turbo charged, high compression motors. The 2.4 T in the new Taco is set up kind of like the old 3.5 ecoboost motors, which also took regular unleaded happily.

    Rodney, the reason the hybrid version wasn't recalled is because this is a "safety" recall. Toyota says that if the hybrid version of the engine fails, the electric motor can power the truck until it's safe to pull over, so there is no safety issue in their mind and thus no recall. They're recalling the non-hybrid version of the engine because the truck loses power while potentially moving at fast highway speeds, creating a safety hazard. Toyota also decided to exclude 2024 Tundra's despite the fact that there have been plenty of 2024 Tundra owners that have reported the exact same bearing failure. This recall is a joke.

    • @Rodneysnwridesandreviews
      @Rodneysnwridesandreviews 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes I read about the Hybrid models, and their reasoning for not including them in the recall. There’s a lot of things that just adding up. First it was debris left in the motors, then it was bearing having different torque settings, or pressure I think they said, and then it was only trucks built in a specific time period. As a salesperson at a Toyota dealership, I hope they will come up with a solution that restores the consumers faith in the product.

    picking out rocks after you are off the gravel roads is nice for drivers that are behind you. It will save plenty of windshields. One thing that confuses me is why do you think you are just protecting the bed of your truck when on pavement... I am petty sure these tires will fling rocks while driving down a gravel road causing the same nicks and dings. The only protection is better rockguards at the wheel well, some protective armor at the bed, and limiting gravel road diving. Appreciate the review!

    The real issue is not a debris problem it is low quality bearings installed with a low flow oil design around the bearings, with the engine so small with additional turbo the engine is getting too much stress and the bearings are the one that do all the heavy load so there that is the real problems. If you already have Tundra don’t accelerate quick, don’t do heavy load and change your oil every 2500 miles.

    TOYOTA's tech is GOING down. Like Japon Economy. They don't put the money on R&D. Rubbish vehicle.

    Mine is 2024 and so far the only problem its the noise on the brake pads when reversing, do you know anything about this?? Thanks

      I’ve never heard of anyone having a noise when they back up. Is it possible that the noise is coming from the emergency brake not being fully released when you start to back up?

      So the parking brake automatically engages when you park correct?? Maybe I will need to release the parking brake first, thanks

    2024s are not involved in the recall but are affected. There have been documented cases of both tundra and LX600 failures

    restoring shattered faith in both the tacoma and tundra may be possible by toyota giving a 100k powertrain warranty. put your warranty where your mouth is, or let these insanely overpriced trucks rot on the lot.

    Toyota's remedy is to rebuild the short block engine instead of replacing it...100,000 vehicles affected is significant no matter how you want to spin it...

    they recall replace short block after that engine will have another problems if not strong skills technician work on look at subaru after recall valve springs problems technician apply too much silicone and get in oil pickup tube and worn out engine

    I noticed that the short block part numbers appear to be different between hybrid and non-hybrid. Also elude to the fact that the oil pressures are different. Can you confirm that the hybrid short block is a different part number?

    Made in Mexico? Quality control is out the door, they make those trucks with a few dollar’s paying the employees a few bucks, how weird metal shaving recall on tacomas 23 on the rear differential mounting which could cause the differential to come apart

    My theory is that it has to do with the cast iron bearing caps embedded in the aluminum ladder frame or the new non resin coated metallic bearings themselves. My theory is that the differential expansion of aluminum vs iron is causing the bearing caps to "move" out of tolerance. It starts with just a little play, but that increases over time (just like a small leak always increases over time). Solution: maybe go back to resin coating on main bearings? Maybe lose the cast iron caps - stick with 1 material with 1 thermal expansion rate? I think this recall will grow. The recall is an effort to prevent rhese vehicle from losing tremendous resale value once warranty period expires and to address NHTSA concerns Thoughts?

      There has been talk about different main bearing torque pressures as a possible fix.

    Who's making these engines? I had one of those tens of thousands bad engines in my 2020 Camry. Seems Toyota might want to find new contractors or go back to making their parts again if the quality issues keep happening. Toyota come up with every excuse in the book to keep from fixing my new Camry.
