I’m having flashbacks of when I was a bike messenger/courier in DC. We were rock stars of downtown - good money (before email & fax!), and I was in the shape of my life! It jump started a cycling love affair that’s lasted over 40 years

@@unclebaro Fort Washington r/t was about 30 miles, plus 20-25 in a day’s work. Not including occasional hill training rides in Anacostia after work with friends!

Hello I am Philip and I am from Belgium from the city of Ghent I am also a cyclist and also have a channel on TH-cam. Now I must say that I like your videos, I find it very impressive how you go from one side to the other, that is almost impossible in Belgium and the Netherlands, we have separate areas for cycle paths or cycle-o-streets where it is safe to cycle. According to the DCMR a cyclist can split lanes. Section 1201.3(b) states: A person operating a bicycle may overtake and pass other vehicles on the left or right side, staying in the same lane as the overtaken vehicle, or changing to a different lane, or riding off the roadway, as necessary to pass with safety. Title 18, Section 1201.1, Every person riding a bicycle on a highway shall be subject to all the duties applicable to the drivers of motor vehicles under this title, except as otherwise expressly provided in the chapter, and except for those duties imposed by this title which, by their nature, can have no reasonable application to a bicycle operator. So regarding something like him going through the intersection at a red light. red light isnt necessary a "traffic law". traffic law is something like going the speed limit. technically the people on scooters actually have to stop at redlights but 99% do NOT. Reason being is because those scooters are considered above a class 3 bike which is basically a bike that can go up to 28mph without assistance. anything going over 28mph is considered a motor bike and has to be registered per the motor vehicle information for DC. But I was actually speaking with a detective yesterday who was telling me the only real people they might actually pull over are the people on the scooters. Most in part because alot of them are illegals or most of the scooters being ridden are stolen according to what he was saying. Other than that he quite literally said they dont give a shit and wont pull you over. since 2008 you havent had to register a ebike and can ride on sidewalks so long as you arent within the "Business District" of DC.
