Ben Lomond Village - Snow and a Quoll - CRF300 Rally
มุมมอง 150หลายเดือนก่อน
We visited Ben Lomond alpine village that had a light snow covering. While there we saw an eastern quoll, black with white spots. On the run home we stopped an Ben Lomond Base Camp for a coffee, then took forest tracks into Burns Creek and then more tracks into the Mt Barrow Discovery area. Bikes were Honda CRF 250 and CRF 300 Rallys. parks.tas.gov.au/discovery-and-learning/wildlife/land-mammal...

Great vid, keep it up the good work guys!
Thanks for that. Been a little chilly the last few days but hope to get back out soon.
nice video and ride mate 😎👌witch area do you call home base, i am from Devonport area 😁 if ever up this way riding give me a shout and i will see if i can join you for a ride 🤔 thats if you would like company 😁 keep well mate and ride safe-ish 😉🍺
Thanks Jeff, I'll do that. I'm in Launceston but I do get over Devonport way but mainly on the road bike. What do you ride?
@@xplortas DRZ400 E
Nice. Just watched some of your videos
@@xplortas 🤣don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing 🤔
Lol, yeah enjoying them. The DRZ's got a good note too
The 3rd guy needs to trade his heavy machine in for a lighter trail bike. 😂 Great track for adventure though 👍
Yes, the heavy bike is much more of a handful to muscle around, and the tyres weren't full off road so a bit slick at times making for interesting outcomes. There are heaps of tracks in that region, this was the first one I've been on
Hi XT. Challenging ride eh? You’re obviously the more confident rider with longer legs. I want to explore more forest tracks for sure maybe not quite as rough as that one though. Did you see the waterfalls?? I’m quite enjoying the Tonto track. Catchya, Annie
Hi Annie, yes a little challenging. There were a few washouts but not too bad with the right tyres. That last bridge was a concern but we were running out of daylight to find another way out and all were getting tired with a few spills having already happened. We didn't go to the Falls but we had all been there previously and time was a bit short. Regards, XT
Love these exploring videos you do off the main tracks. Well done.👍
Thanks RTB, appreciate your feedback. What camera do you use? Cheers
@@xplortas I use the iPhone 14 for stills and Insta 360 OneX2 (for the 360 footage) and the One RS. Very happy with them. Cheers Darrel
OK thanks. You've got good 360 footage going up Jacobs Ladder, I like it!
@@xplortas Thanks mate. 👍 I eased off filming for the RtB channel for the time being, like yourself there are some creators who are doing a better job of filming RtB content than me.
Ha yes there are some awesome creators out there for sure, I'm far from that!
Great video.👌 Very informative regarding the Quoll, let's hope the authorities are checking these species before and during logging here in Tassie.
Thanks RTB. You can help with recording native animal sightings by recording them in the Natural Values Atlas www.naturalvaluesatlas.tas.gov.au/ I'm told that this data is used when planning logging activity, but I need to find out more about this.
@@xplortas Didn’t know this existed and what a brilliant idea. Thanks for the link. Cheers Darrel
Gives you a good excuse to go bush 😊
Tent on a tarp? Glad you like sleeping in pooling water on a rainy night. I sure don't but more power to you.
Ha I know what you mean. If it looks like being wet I keep the tarp well in from the tent edge. Haven't had problems doing it that way. Cheers
@@xplortas Well as long as you move it away when the bad weather comes. Better to have the water soak into the ground then into your tent.
Glad you are out there having a good time though. Cheers!
Totally agree!
Hiya XT. Loved that. Another beautiful sunny day. Your footage of the bikes’ shadows looked great. Nice touch. You must be a farmer to have all this free time to go out riding for the day? Thanks again, Annie
Hiya Annie. Lol - a farmer with free time! No, I'm retired. Yes the shadows are more abundant at this time of year with the sun low in the sky, but also its in your face a lot more! We had lots of layers on though. Seeya, XT
Great scenery mate 👍
Thanks, pleased you enjoyed it. Tassie has some great scenery for sure
Great that you had a friend to drive with 😊 he sounds just like you but deeper 😅
A great riding buddy!
As always nice video and music.
Thanks Dusty, pleased you enjoyed it.
Good morning XT. You are an early bird! Lovely little track. I enjoyed viewing that and your choice of music. Still having incredible weather I see. Thanks. Annie
Hi Annie, sunny but chilly lately. It's a great little track, need to duck under branches here and there, & some really good views across a valley. Bit of a steep descent to Weise Rd (or climb if going the other way). Perfect for a baby beemer 😊. I'm pleased you like the music. Cheers.
Looking forward to getting home and out n about on two wheels. I’ll have to watch all your videos again to decide which one to do first. Ahhh first world problems. 😁😁
Lol, choices. Visited Cradle Mt and Montezuma Falls over the last two days, by car this time. The weather was kind again, and some snow at Cradle Mt was nice to see.
I don't realise the range on those drones until it returns to the lookout were I assume you are standing close by. How odd to see sand up there.🤔 Another enjoyable video.👌
They have a long range, several km if in line of sight. Yes I don't know how all the sand got there, interesting
Fire lookouts are cool need to visit some here in Missouri USA. Liked the music.
Tanks for your comments! Yes the fire tower lookouts are good to visit, especially if the guy is there to let you have access. There are a few spread across Tasmania, I've only visited a couple. Chris Haugen has some good free music on TH-cam. It's hard to find nice music that isn't synthetic electronic stuff, but you've chosen a few good ones too! Hope you have a good ride in the smoky Mts. Cheers
Oops. My comment is in behind gold fingers. Sorry 🤔
Hi Annie, thanks for your comments. Yes the weather has been amazing. I went out riding yesterday from about 8am to 4pm, another nice sunny day. Saw 2 deer, 3 wombats, 1 wedge tail eagle & heaps of wallabies. You've got a good bike for off-roading
S happens, did you recover the drone, nice footage from the done anyway.
Yeah, I recovered it. Two burnt out motors. I'm going to try fix it when I get time. It may yet fly again 🤔
Hi XT. Still having that amazing weather. Shame about the drone 😢 Spanish influence in your choice of music suited the pine plantations segment of your ride. Thanks for inspiring me to do more riding on unsealed roads. Annie
Nice too bad so many downed trees. Great riding
I think you'd like the Tassie bush. We've got 100's of miles of gravel roads and all types of terrain. Cheers

The baby beemer would be a great bike. I've also got a 1250GS that's fantastic. Funny you mentioned the Gladstone pub. Always interesting too see how gear is loaded. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for your feedback, it's always a bit of a challenge to fit things in and to not go overloaded.
Interesting to see different riding, great video.
Thanks! 👍
Check out snugpak tents. Lightweight and better quality; also look into gasification biomass stoves. They’re great
The tents and stoves look neat. Do you use one of those stoves?
@@xplortasnope, I use a firebox mini biomass stove with a burner attachment and msr fuel canisters. If I’m in a forest with no burning ordinance I’ll have a fire. Was into bushcraft and camping deep in the woods before motorcycles so they just kinda mesh in the middle.
Thanks for the info. Sometimes the firewood in Tassie can be wet, but the stoves do look great
Impressive oriental rug....in the garage!
Lol, but so good on the knees compared to concrete!
I use a bush box to light a fire to cook or make a Coffee ect it’s small and light in case the jet boil don’t work like you say
Those jet boils are good when they work but I don't trust the piezo spark. The bush box sounds good
Wow paradise

I’m impressed. Certainly enjoy your choice of music XplorTas. And that you’re a tootler on the Honda. Nice to know such places exist and not covered in graffiti etc. Cheers. Annie
Hi Annie, thanks again for your feedback. Yes it was great to see the hut was in good shape. I get so disappointed when I see mindless damage and dumped rubbish in the bush. Regards XPLORTAS
What a fantastic track that leads into such a beautiful location and to break out the Jetboil to have a cuppa on your own. Awesome.👌 I totally respect you for not commenting on the location, well done.🙏
Thanks again for your feedback. The track in is really nice, the whole area a nice place to camp. Ride safe
I could build myself a little bit like that to live in 😊
It was a great hut (in comparison to many others I've seen)! With some TLC it would make a great place to get away from the rat race :)
Hey ExplorTas. Fab video. Thanks for sharing. So relaxing with your music choice. Nice to hear you bike just purring along. I’ll have to get to the fire tower one day. Catchya. Annie
Hi Annie, thanks for your feedback. I do hope you can go riding in that area, it's a great part of Tassie and so many nice tracks. Do you have an off-road bike? With the days getting shorter I'm finding I have to turn back a lot earlier or risk coming home at sunset 🤣
Thanks for this video, very enjoyable. You got some nice drone footage but a shame it got damaged. Some of those roads are part of Ride the Byroads route. Roses Tier Rd has to be one of my favourite sections in that area. Darrel RtB

Nice video👌 You showcased a very nice part of Tassie. I enjoyed it. Isn't Stories Creek Rd to Rossarden a gem.
Thanks for your feedback. It's a favourite riding area for me
Nice when you can have it all to yourself.
That's what I love about the Tassie bush, nice & quiet. Hardly see a car
No need to have the drone follow you to closely, just asking for trouble, keep it safe above treetops. What drone are you flying? Using any 3rd party apps? You did pretty well.
I've got a DJI Mavic Air 2. I've tried it higher but it won't lock on and stay with me, a bit frustrating

Hi Xplortas, nothing wrong with the drone footage you captured for this video. I can see how you can get frustrated with it, forever looking to see if it's following you instead of watching the road. Nice video though.👍 We are the same down here in southern Tas, we desperately need rain too.
You're very generous! I didn't show video of it hovering between the branches of several trees or refusing to follow in the first place or me forgetting to press record when I finally got it to follow! Might get some rain tomorrow.
