These are very interesting issues, only I would be turned off by the author using psychic insights to answer questions. Still, I'm open. It's just not what I am used to. As a teenager I had an over-active dream life and I am see how military people would as well. An interesting topic for sure.

This was a fascinating program. I am pleased to see that this book is being made available, and look forward to reading it. I've always felt that cooping exacerbated Poe's already ill condition. He was said to have consulted a doctor friend in Richmond before he left for an editing job in Philadelphia, then on to New York to gather his aunt for his impending wedding to his childhood sweetheart. That doctor and his fiancée both advised him not to travel. I have read Dr. Moran's little book and it doesn't jibe with other accounts, including the one which Moran gave in a letter to Poe's aunt, Mrs. Clemm, a month after Poe's death and burial. Somewhere, I had read an account by orderlies at the hospital who said that Moran never tended to Poe--others did--and that it was an orderly who found him dead; not Moran or any others, and that no one had been with him when he uttered his supposed last words. (Moran gives two different accountings, and perhaps many variations.) I want to say that the source of this may have been Eugene Didier who wrote The Poe Cult (1909), but I am not certain as my old notes have been lost. Didier gave, in that book, a recollective description by a Poe acquaintance of the cooping incident. In my own research, I found the firsthand testimonies of two passersby who claimed that they came upon a disheveled Poe lying on a plank between two barrels, his person covered in flies, near a fishmonger's stand down by the Baltimore wharves. This account was written in the penmanship of one of the two who gave testimony during an investigation of Poe's whereabouts before his untimely death. (Source: Maryland State Archives) A conductor of the train he was on, a Mr. Rollins, claimed to have seen Poe being followed off the train, and around the corner of a building leading to an alleyway by two well-dressed men whom he described as "sharks". Furthermore, his cousin Neilson Poe, for whom Poe had very little affection, was said to have been informed by a first cousin of Poe's, that he had seen Poe lying under the steps of the Baltimore Museum, but neither cousin chose to come to the aid of the stricken writer. All so very intriguing.
