Ep 24 Stormy Flight Home From Work
I flew to work for the first time.
The flight home was always going to require some planning for alternates- that did eventuate.

    I with 2 friends did an outback trip of 70 flying hours in a Bonanza F33 back in 1978 had a great time in WA, SA, NSW, QLD ,VIC , NT, back then you could land on the strip right next to Ayres Rock, landed at various outback stations and a couple of beach landings on Frazer Island

    $12,000 annual will get you out of flying fast. I had a $15,000 annual for a 1968 Mooney C model the first year, after that I found things that were not done, motor mounts installed wrong and wenches in the engine bay. I said to my self I could do a better job. Got my Dad to look at the work I did which is an A&P and after that an AI signed it off. Major money saved plus I took my time and did a way better job than a mechanic would. Had the plane 7 years never had a problem.

    • @flylikeagirl
      @flylikeagirl หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know I would d a better job than some mechanics, but alas no chance anyone would let me do what you do, here in Oz. I am studying Aeroskills Mechanical and cannot get anyone to agree to let me do the practical as an unpaid volunteer, due to insurance. I have to do an aprenticeship which I will not do at 63 years of age when I run my own businesses

    Greetings fom me, a Jabiru pilot with 260 hours total time. I am R A AUS registered, but waiting on the CASA approvals to go through so that I can "upgrade" to a Piper Tomahawk, an aircraft I love, and previously flew some years ago with an instructor. Your experiences are of great interest to me. I have my fingers Xd for you. Kindest regards to you from me in South Australia.

    That's a nice plane. A shame you're having trouble with it. 😢 At the last annual the shop borescoped my Musketeer's wings, treated some very minor surface corrosion and declared her good to go. Beechcraft's Service Instruction is aggressive about cutting inspection holes in the wings, but was also written before borescopes were a thing. My Annual From Hell a few years ago involved a factory rebuilt O-320 from Lycoming, plus installation, plus matters arising when you take an old plane that far apart. The final bill wasn't pretty, but she's a whole new plane. ❤

    During the year 2016, I became interested in learning how to play tennis. I went to a tennis center and realized that I did not possess the endurance to easily run from one side of the tennis court to the other side of the tennis court. I decided that before I enroll in tennis lessons, I would obtain the endurance to easily run from one side of the tennis court to the other side. I decided that before I would enroll in tennis lessons, I would learn how to run for thirty minutes without stopping. I went on a running program to build up my endurance. In high school I went out for track. Going out for track was a disaster. At the time, my training program consisted of running until I became exhausted. That training program lasted for three weeks. I was forced to discontinue track because every muscle and bone in my body hurt. At the time, I was concerned that I would lose my ability to walk. My body forced me to stop the track program. I did not desire to be forced to stop running due to pain this time. I used the following technique which worked for me: 1. Walk around the neighborhood for thirty minutes. At the time, I realized that I could walk around the neighborhood for three hours without stopping. I could only run for thirty seconds without stopping. After thirty seconds, I was out of breath and had to stop running. 2. Run for a minute. 3. Walk home. I ran for only a minute. I continued running for a minute until it became easy to run for a minute. This required three months for me to be able to run for a minute without stopping. When it became easy to run for a minute, I attempted to run for two minutes. Three years later, I was able to run for 25 minutes without stopping. At the time, I decided to enroll in tennis lessons. I enjoyed tennis until the pandemic caused the cancellation of tennis lessons. The key to success is to start with small, achievable goals. My long-term goal was to be able to run thirty minutes without stopping. I broke the goal down into smaller achievable goals. I would work on learning how to run for a minute without stopping. Once I built up the endurance to be able to run easily for a minute without stopping, then worked on running for two minutes without stopping. I wore a digital watch featuring a stop watch feature to track my time walking and running. Break up your goals into smaller goals. Avoid creating goals that are “over the top.” Create achievable goals. Yesterday, I ran for 90 minutes without stopping. I stop running at the 90 minute mark because I have other goals in life to achieve, other than running around the neighborhood. Because I gradually built up the ability to run for 90 minutes, my body feels okay. I have not encountered joint or muscle pain.
