    Setting standards are standard, they just have to be reasonably realistic. You can't fire someone for not being early.

      I appreciate your comment. It was just an example. I was taught to be 15 minutes early at my first job when I was 14 and it has benefited me ever since. Because then if something goes wrong, like you forget something and have to run back home, you just end up being on time. A better example might've been to keep your computer desk organized. It's just the philosophy of, "how you do anything is how you do everything". Does that make sense?

      @@romanmassey356 because it's unfair dismissal. If you say start at 6, then you start at 6, if you fire someone because they didn't start before 6 you get sued. There's also due process to consider, warnings and write ups ect.

      @@romanmassey356 You can't mandate someone to show up 15min before there shift starts. You have to pay them for every minute you want them to be there. If you fire someone because they don't show up 15min early to a shift and you had no intention of paying them for that 15 then that is wrongful termination. If you do pay them for the 15min then they are not really early they are showing up on the agreed start time.

      @@romanmassey356 No, either way if they are there being payed they are not early, that's just called starting time. Like me for example my office doesn't open till 9am to the public but I and a few others are there or on-site at 5am sometimes. I am not early when I do this I am on time for my job.
