I usually shoot for original key unless I want to alter the mood (my version of Breaking the Law by Judas Priest is an example of a time when I’ve tried to do that deliberately, th-cam.com/video/KOZdL6UpTA8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jVPpmbQghunvxUIC) If there’s a song I want to do but its original key isn’t within my range, I tend to I sing it a capella in a comfortable register then try and work around that area whilst bringing the guitar back and figuring out the new key. With Dancing in the Dark, I used to do it half a step up from the original key but as I’ve gotten older my voice has changed a bit so I’ve now gone the other way, which is what I’m sharing here. Me too, such a great band. If I could order one reunion across popular music it would be Uncle Tupelo all day long. I like Wilco and Son Volt but it’s just not the same. Might do Long Cut at some point soon. A band I went to college with in the early 2000s took their name from that song. They did ok

Thank you George! It’s a very heartfelt song for me to sing as it’s been my companion since my dad passed away last year. I recorded this in the weeks after. I’ve seen Bruce live many times but “retired” from his shows years ago. Came out of that to see him in Sunderland this year knowing I’d probably get to hear this song live and thankfully I did.
