I've been told that this XO reissue of the Deluxe Electric Mistress went through some changes from the earlier runs to the later runs. I can't personally confirm - but I wonder if you took an early-run DEM XO, a later-run DEM XO, and a WOTM Flanger, maybe the WOTM & late-run DEM would be the same, whereas the early-run DEM would sound different from both?

I've got the older one mistress, which is good but sadly its size is huge for a normal pedalboard, that is why I love the new green mistress. On the other hand I was wondering the same thing concerning the new ehx Andy Summers pedal, I even thought this was another way to improve the sales of this classic pedal. Whatever the case, I watched your whole video and I agree that may be a few tiny differences in sound and effect but in the end I think is a great pedal if you're fan of this particular sound. Nice video, thanks for sharing your experience. ☺️👌👌

They sell for the same price so if you're a bigtime Police fan then that's about the only reason I would buy that one. They both sound identical to me. Or at least could be tweaked to sound exact anyway.

I think the Deluxe Electric Mistress has a more throaty flanger sound. The Walking on the Moon sounds closer to a chorus effect.

I have one of the last revisions of the DEM XO circuit before they rebranded the pedal to the current Walking on the Moon version. The chip inside is an Xvive MN3009 while earlier revisions used the Reticon RD5106, and the pedal has five internal trimpots instead of four. My guess is that the current model is a continuation of where the last DEM circuit left off, with only cosmetic rebranding.

The walking on the moon flanger isnt supposed to sound like the deluxe. atleast from a viewpoint of someone who owns a vintage Electric mistress v2 from 76 its ment to sound really glassy and mettalic. The deluxe has always been known for being less metallic. But in my opinion that is why the (walking on the moon one) fits a big muff extremely well

Both Flangers have three knobs with 20% tolerance on each one. The real test would be to set them the same then tweak them to sound as close as possible. Batch to batch 100KB potentiometers will read 93K or even 105K - that is enough to change things like knob settings.

Usually folks don't buy the same pedal twice. I had 2 identic pedalboards and I can tell you, you can never get the same pedal twice. (maybe fully digital devices)

The circuit is very similar but they had to adjust for a different chip- it previously was a common reticon 5109 or something but they now use xvive 3209 or something like that. The sounds also vary between units due to calibration and tolerances but I think they all sound pretty cool.

Walking on the moon to me sounds more old school electric sounds modernized version of that so i hear a big difference from the two

Nobody is going to hear the difference in a mix. Also, it would have been easier to hear the differences between them it you’d just quickly switched from one to the other instead of talking in between. So much talking.

Definitely prefer the Andy Summers pedal sound of the two, but v small differences overall, oh and the new pedal looks smaller toom

Very interesting.

They probably are the same exact circuit just calibrated slightly different from the factory. There’s lots of trim pots inside and they probably have a set tolerance where they calibrate them into. That would explain the small difference in tone and waveform which can be heard clearly in your video.
