Odd to land on 28R as they usually use that with departures and get them to land on 28C, unless 28C was under construction. But maybe since it was only 4:30 am they let you land on 28R as hardly any aircraft would be actively landing and departing

Nice! Somewhere, I have video from the old Shadow Tower of a paralle(but staggered a bit)l 747 takeoff from 01L/R! Imagine that, I think it was the UA Charter 747 on 1L going to VCV(did regular charters there) and Virgin Atlantic on 01R. Always awesome to watch a 747 climb out towards the East Bay.

Not as rare as you would think United operates a flight to Chicago from SFO using either a 747 or a 777 so that flight usually used runway 1R, KLM, British Airways and virgin usually use this runway

A number of years ago Alitalia had a non-stop from SFO to MXP (Milan). Since they had a very light load we took off on 1R. Rotated right as we got to the east/west runways. They were flying 767's at the time.

I used to park my car in the observation lot just Milbrae Ave. And the Old Bayshore Hwy. Watched a gazillion flights just like this one. My all time favorite was an American 747SP bound for Tokyo

The problem with runway 28 is the heavier & louder flights over residential areas. I ought to know since they all fly over me. Now if KLM, NCA, British Airways, China Airlines,Quantas, Asaina and Kaletta would get rid of their smokey, outdated 747's it would help with the noise levels.

Yes flights to Europe that pushback from Concourse A tend to use 1R most of the time. United parks at G, so this flight must have been super light.

Try zooming out a little next time.

Flights bound for European destinations prefer the 1s since the heading is more direct to their destination, but these jets are often heavy at takeoff which pushes them to use the longer 28s for takeoff. The 28s require them to fly straight to the pacific ocean and make a U-turn over SF and GG bridge.
