So nice!
Cool!
What a nice simulation. Could you tell me what equation did you use to calculate the Reynold number ?
surprised this is the solution they settled on
Nice....how fast is Lethe DEM ..is there study available to compare it with other DEM codes? Thank you
The performance is increasing every day as we are always continuously improving the software itself. It is hard to assess if it is much faster or slower than other code as this really depends on the simulation set-up.
@@lethecfd6431 I will definitely try this code for compression simulations. I am looking for a computationally efficient DEM code that can handle at least 40,000 particles. LIGGGHTS is another option, but it takes a lot of computational time. :)

Nice.* How* fast is Lethe DEM?* Is* there a* study avaliable (...)?
And what can you learn from such a simulation what is not obvious. If I have had to sketch the particle flow, this is exactly how I would've sketched it. Some ultrasonic compaction modelled?
satisfying lol
son?
Great video, but I have a few questions as an academic peer: What is DEM? What is laser powder? Why is it fusing with my bed? Why hasn't my dad returned from the store? I eagerly await your response and next entry in this series!
as another academic peer, i cannot answer the first 3 questions but the 4th i may have some insight. it is but a theory, but perhaps like the universe beyond the observational limits, the store to which he is approaching is receding from him at the same or greater speed. Therefore i regret to inform you that you father is trapped chasing the store forever, he misses you.
1. Discrete Element Model - it's a method of simulation idk I just googled it 2. Powder that the laser shoots and melts 3. It's not fusing with the bed, It's fusing all the little bits of metal powder together to form a shape from the metal, like a metal casting but one tiny grain sized layer at a time... WITH FRIKKIN LASERS!!! 4. milk exploded in a freak store related accident and killed him instantly
Can we measure the particle temperature in this simulation
Very interesting! 🙂
Could you maybe make one where the particles are colored based on where they started? It would be really interesting to see if there's some "fixed points" or places where the particles didn't get mixed much.
Looks like there's a large body of particles that basically doesn't move at all going through the entire middle of this
Yea I found that interesting. It doesn't appear to mix as much as I would think
I feel happy watching this
cement mixer goes brrr
TH-cams compression algorithm does NOT like this video
Looks like an exponential increase
It looks great! Congratulations! Is there any repo where I may find the source code of this example? Thanks!
Not right now, but if you ask on the discussion thread of Lethe, we can make the prm file available online publicly. github.com/lethe-cfd/lethe/discussions
@@lethecfd6431 It sounds great! Thank you so much!
Congratulations! Great job! Is it possible to simulate the case of a flow in a cylindrical duct with periodic boundary conditions and particle transport (with double coupling: fluid-particle and particle-fluid)? Thanks in advance!
At the moment periodic boundary conditions are not fully supported, but they will be in the coming months so stay tuned :)!
@@lethecfd6431 Hi! Thanks for your message! I'll stay tuned, for sure!
It looks intriguing! What is the CFD tool?
CFD, DEM, and coupling solvers are inside the open-source Lethe package. Lethe consists of high-order finite-element CFD solvers; it is fully parallel with load-balancing. You can find more information about Lethe and the installation guide on: github.com/lethe-cfd/lethe
