guys calm down. im not here to defend nvidia's business practices. this is the "GOLDEN AGE' of gpus- where a 5080 performs 10-15% worse than previous generation flagship. bruh.. it hasnt happened in the history of gpus where sub-flagship card could not surpass previous gen flagship.

If you watch this. This is not a good comparison job. The xbox series s has performance mode and fidelity mode, too, which this person does not show any. Only for series x. So this is dumb comparison, sorry to say.

Intel has always been customer centric. You can get a 14600KF for $200... when was the lastt time you could get such a beast for just $200 bucks? Their new generation may not perform any better on traditional computing tasks but wait and see until developers start to use the NPU for ingame AI stuff like NPC characters talking to you etc. Then Arrow Lake and Pather Lake will make a lot more sense!

My 1080ti died a couple years ago and I've been using my HD7970 from over a decade ago because everyone said the 40 series is trash, hold out for the 50 series. Thought about buying a 4080s but decided to just buy an Xbox and wait for the 50 series because I could never find a 4080s below $1200. Now everyone is like, "50 series is trash, hold out for the 60 series." I'm sorry but im actually kind of content with the 5080. I like the new dlss offerings and frame generation. I like that it has a performance increase over the 4080s with a ton more overclocking headroom. Realistically it's a little more expensive than the 4080s, but not that much more and it's still launch week. Stock will accumulate. I was lucky enough to get an msi vanguard 5080 for $1289 and I cannot wait to install it. I haven't been this excited for something since I was a kid on Christmas. It's really no more expensive than the average 4080s was when I was pricing them. I guess I'm just frustrated that everyone acts like the people who bought 4080s for $1200 in December made the right decision but im everything wrong with capitalism because I waited for the 5080 and paid $90 more for an objectively better card. Should it have come with more vram? Sure. Should it have been named a 5070ti? Idk probably its not like there's a universal naming standard. But at the same time is it the best $1200 card currently available? Absolutely. I'm also tired of everyone acting like AMD is impervious to small generational uplifts when the 7000 series aside from the 7900xt/xtx was basically rebadged 6000 series cards with barely any performance gains. Now the 9070xt isn't even going to be more powerful than the 7900xtx. There isn't a good team and a bad team, you just have to pick the gpu that makes the most sense for your budget when its time to upgrade.

You think this will be released in a full laptop (i.e. that can run max 120W TDP and stay cool to the touch after multiple hours), with USB4v2 or TB5 support? I have my doubts about the HP Zbook Ultra G1a (which a rep confirmed will only have USB4v1 ports), and ASUS has only accounced tablet and mini-PCs so far (i.e. no ROG Strix Halo laptops, despite funny enough already having a "ROG Strix" laptop line now).

I found the board 10 minutes before I ordered my new setup yesterday and replaced my planned MSI B650 Tomahawk with it… it was only a 7-euro difference!

i think if you want to upgrade for 4k and you are coming from a 3080 for as it was advertised as a 4k card at the time..then its a no brainer that anything but a 5090 is a bad idea long term. just my opinion.

The low stock and pricing are problems, but the cards themselves are great. If you have a 40 counterpart, you have no reason to upgrade, but from 2+ gens behind you should most definitely get a 50 if you can afford. Also dlss4 and multi frame gen is some serious stuff, like the fps jump is insane, so the people who dismiss that because its “not actual performance” just wish they could upgrade

My problem with this is Nvidia made such a big deal about how much better these cards were, like that the 5070 would give you 4090 performance and I know people who took them at their word thinking the 5080 was going to be a monster card and sold their 4080s to buy one only to have supplies of the cards unbelievably small and it turned out not to be even worth buying the 5080 for what it gave you and the partner cards were ridiculously priced and the only way it was even worth while buying was if you found a founders card to buy. So as far as Im concerned Nvidia was not honest and ripped people off with their false advertising. In Canada the 5090 partner cards are priced at 3500 dollars to 4100 dollars due to what Nvidia charges them for the parts making it so none of them can compete with the founders cards and where I live you can only buy the partner cards from the local computer store

The 5090 is a 5080 and the 5080 is the 5070 historically looking at performance trends

If you look at 5090 die shot that is clearly not a gaming card ( 5080 same thing but in half ) the raster engine is tiny huge space waisted on AI and memory controlers, unnecessary 32 gigs of VRAM, 24 was fine. I dont know why Nvidia dont change the architecture to something NOT focused on AI for the gaming chips. Sorry for the bad english not my native language.

I don't know where you got this "5080 performance" Nobody said that. I think it's gonna be slightly faster than 5070 Ti in raster and latest rumours suggest the price will be 599$.

"At the same price point". At MSRP, yes. If you could get one at MSRP, its a good deal compared to last gen. But the reality is, you will never in a 100 years got to buy it at MSRP. Its only good on paper. In reality, Its the worst in terms of price/perf considering you need to pay 2x MSRP to get 1 right now. Its a really shitty situation. In southeast asia, I can literally get a brand new compact small car for the same price as the 5090. And I can get 3 brand new 125CC moped bike for the same price as 5080. Fkn hell lord have mercy

Whatever price to performance win any GPU maker generates is just immediately neutralized by scalpers... The worst deal sets the ceiling for what scalpers can get away with. MSRP doesn't matter when no one can get hardware at that price.

Brett is simply being dishonest when he says that this is not the worst GPU generation yet. There has never been a generation where the new-generation card was slower than the old one.

5080 is a 5070 in disguise. There is a huge performance gap between the 5080 and 5090. I'm not in the market for a GPU but I'm calling it what it is. I'm also calling it now that there will be something to fill that performance gap in about a year or less.

I think I'm going to keep my 3080ti for a year or two and consider a new card then.

I personally can wait 3 to 5 years before upgrading. I own a 1080 Ti, 3080 Ti, and a 4070 Ti Super. I wanted a 3080 Ti but they never came up with one. As of now I'm good until the 70 series. I never upgrade unless I have to and have 3 high end desktops from 3 different generations that are still useed every day. I use both in the man cave and I gave my 1080 Ti to my dad so he can use it for video editing and it's still rocking that 4k footage easy. I'm never the type to buy the latest tech but always the guy to buy the best tech for cheaper ahaha.

@hotnewsclips Its clear that NVIDIA does this on purpose, to increase demand, hence the price. NVIDIA has been doing this for years, hence when announcing the 40 series, they stated that people should brace themselves for $2000+ GPUs. Have you forgotten? Its all a marketing strategy, as NVIDIA is testing the waters with SCALPERS in mind to see how much the real LOSERS of society are willing to pay scalpers, hence increasing the price every gen.

These new GPUs are like new releases of FIFA or NBA 2K. Instead of calling it a season pass we will call it a new title.

You are wrong too. MSRP is fake. The card is fake. It does not exist. What does exist is a few 5080 at 1800$ on eBay. Now, if you "tech bros" can do anything other than being full of shit, do a review and adjust for the market prices and you will have no other choice than to admit that it's a crappy expensive card. Or, you delay your videos until cards at MSRP are actually a thing, in one year or so. In the meantime, you guys are contributing to inflate the fake hype, fake price. People aren't mad about the 5090 or 5080 they're mad about how bad the 70 and especially 60 series has been recently.
