The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo is located in the city of Hilo, on the east side of Hawaiʻi Island, about 200 air miles from Honolulu. The peaceful city offers a moderate cost of living, a beautiful environment, and a highly diverse, low-density population of about 45,000. Within ten minutes of campus are shopping malls, theaters, and restaurants, as well as a major harbor and the Hilo International Airport.
The purpose of our university ʻohana (family) is to challenge students to reach their highest level of academic achievement by inspiring learning, discovery and creativity inside and outside the classroom. Our kuleana (responsibility) is to improve the quality of life of the people of Hawaiʻi, the Pacific region and the world.

UH Hilo's Kuleana and Community Talk Story with with Julie Mitchell, the Executive Director of Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center, a non-profit whose mission is to empower people to come together - to talk and to listen, to explore options, and to find their own best solutions. To achieve this mission, Ku‘ikahi offers mediation, facilitation, and training that can strengthen the ability of diverse individuals and groups to resolve interpersonal conflicts and community issues. In this talk-story, we explore why conflict usually feels so “icky” and how we can engage more constructively when we have disagreements with others.

Yes!!! I'm applying the last day before the deadline! I'm hoping to transfer here! This speaks so much to me as I've stumbled a lot during my college journey & feel that I just need to be guided as opposed to push to succeed. Also I adore the Hawaiian culture & spread the love of the islands.
I am still applying to UHHILO, and honestly, so far I really recommend it to anyone. The staff is very kind and the students love the campus. The counselors are very sweet and loving, the counselor i spoke to was extremely nice and made me feel at ease considering i was nervous at first. I recommend this university to so many people as it is a very nice school and home to multiple students.

I attended UH Hilo a few years ago. Good times. I'd recommend it to anyone. It's not all fun and games as a minority of individuals will be upfront with their hate but majority of people are nice just like anyone else. Their programs throughout university are overall good, especially computer science, math, biology, marine science and physics/astronomy. If you can go to UH Hilo, do it.

Thanks for sharing the tour of Hawaii University in Hilo. What is the best thing happened or happening in this University? What else if any challenging experience or latest history about this Campus? I would be in this coming fall to be in the classroom and I'm curious and excited all about it.
