Great pod as always!
Great pod again. And thanks for answering the question
great video as always. one thing that could help people follow along when you're reading the YoY comparison spreadsheet is if you can fix the table heading such that even when you scroll, the heading is still visible. An example is 4:06 where all i can see is numbers without knowing what they actually mean. thanks.
Appreciate the shout! Fixed it right now for the next video.
our midfielders are asked to do too much out of possession i think and its not really playing to lavia or enzo's capabilities. our set up is almost always jackson - palmer up front with the double pivot right behind them to mark their 6s or inverted fullbacks while our wingers are usually much further back tracking someone deeper. if the initial press gets played past, our double pivot has a ton of ground to cover which is why we can have probably the most in form 6 in the country in caicedo and still look vulnerable down the middle. I think if maresca had the wingers lead the press we'd look less exposed
For sure, it's why you often see the midfield have the wingers much deeper. Also makes the CB's job harder.
Lovely episode as always. One player who I think had good to decent level ball winning numbers but was poor transition defender was Jorginho.
Great pod! Your thougths on gusto/the player in the pocket were really intresting
None of the midfielders can even develop into a good midfield partner? Lavia is mostly lacking defensively with his mobility, santos probably needs to improve on the ball, enzo i hope but Ll great players in different ways. I don’t see a reason to soo hastily enter the market for a midfielder. Then there are other variables to the midfield, the players will improve, the inverting left full back, reece adds something different there and we are still early in maresca days.
100%, lots of time, but Chelsea also need wins now. Tough to balance both sides of that.
For top 4/YoY comparison, I know the focus is on who is challenging for the last spot, but it would also be nice to see where City, Liverpool, and Arsenal stack up in the comparison too.
Quite incredible that we can’t seem to find midfield balance after spending over £300M just on midfielders
Isn't it just?
Good point about not wanting to tie and go for the win, I generally agree but I was thinking, considering utd are one of the threats for top 4, would it have been worth it to throw away a 6 point lead ?
Your goal is to maximize your season point total, sure you maximize the lead vs United but what about v spurs/villa? Very specific situations where holding draw is correct
I really want casadei to develop as a deep laying midfielder so we get the physical presence and great set piece threat
Re players being appreciative of graphs and data: like half of them play Football Manager, so I think they can manage a spreadsheet-based vision of soccer
Can't catch it live, but this + the podcast definitely the best value add to chelsea media in ages
easily
Do you feel we need a more physical, tall, CDM to partner Caicedo or would you just bring Andrey back? Just feel if we had Onana next to Caicedo, we would dominate midfield every game.
Yeah, I think this is the profile we sort of need. We got a good question about this toward the end!
Always level headed and always objective. Keep on doing what you do, Kier.
Agree with all of your assessments. Enzo dreadful, Veiga was okay, Nkunku looked super super checked out. I was so disappointed with him. Mudryk I thought was incredible. That chip pass to felix was unbelievable
Lovely stuff as per!
Great content!! Again the best in the biz
Great episode, love your analysis!
Disappoint performance.. WTF.. I can't with these videos man.
They are optional to watch!
Top as always
I think the good news is as well is that winning the EUCL will automatically qualify for the UEFA Europa League group stage in the following season.
I would be genuinely shocked if Chelsea finished lower than qualifying for Europa automatically anyways
Good info
Great Pod Episode!!
you're 100% right about maresca having to abandon this A team B team thing. it was okay to start the season but players have to believe they're able to fight for a spot in the team or its going to fall apart. also really interesting to see how he lines up against harder competition in cup games (ie. newcastle next mid week) and if he'll still really go for 9-11 rotations in the squad.
Newcastle going to be a great test to see
Best Chelsea content out there, really appreciate your content
I'm glad our discussion about the shot volume was discussed here. Now thinking, the best solution to most of our problems would be to play Chillwell (a hreat high and wide lb) and have Nkunku in the left half space. Can still have the 3-2 build up and instead of someone like Gusto or Cucu in the left half space you actually have a creative threat there in Nkunku who can link up and pump out shots.
Cacedei 6.8 but felix is 7.7 is a joke
I know you mentioned that there are a lot of minutes going because of all the competitions but surely someone like Nkunku is going to look at his goal record and believe that he should be starting in our most important competition the premier league
A valid comment - I think it's a matter of time before we get to Nkunku over Madueke or Sancho, but you never know. Think the rotations will get messier when suspensions/knocks happen.
Great video. Please can you give more details about casadei as a 6 and how much can he develop in that position given he's strengths and what do you think is his potential
If he keeps playing, we'll talk about him more.
Best tactics show out rn, kier knows his stuff
Appreciate it brother!
I rarely comment on videos, this analysis was great! I know this a primarily Chelsea-centric channel but hopefully we’ll be able to see some other tactical non-Chelsea vids here in the future as well
Fue un buen debut contra Uriguay pero después de ese partido fue apagándose
love it man, thanks!
We look so good man. Enzo was finally really good as well
Sorry to miss it today, but loving the new design!
What is the name of the podcast of the analytics you listened to and talked about in the video.
Double Pivot Podcast
ur xga numbers for city (h) in 23/24 is wrong if you're removing penalties. Haaland took one in that game nice episode tho
Good catch!
Loved the pod as always top top stuff. However I dont agree with Palace being worse this season than last when we faced them. We faced Palace at home when Olise, Guehi, Doukoure, and Eze were out. Also Glasner ( with Olise changed their season) hadnt joined yet.
Missed it live but top stream as always
These videos are like gold dust. So informative.
We looked really good imo. Really great insights
Liking the longer form videos. Would be good to see one on the four window transformation of Chelsea, personally it feels like a collection of talented individuals, but not really a coherent squad. You mentioned the issues of Palmer/Nkunku, and Enzo/Caicedo... but also the fit of Sancho, Felix, KDH, Mudryk (particularly with the soon to be arrival of Paez/Estevao) Too many cooks in the kitchen and likely corporate issues of politicking/competitive rivalry
Nice video. Really appreciate your efforts. Keep them coming
Yet to watch - so I hope you got to speak on the pros/cons of moving Caicedo further back during build-up + those Fofana wide-runs. Struggling to see the upside of having a CB carry like that
We did talk about it!
